CDC removes guidance pushing for school reopenings saying there's ’new scientific information’

More at link
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has removed guidelines from its website that promoted in-person learning for schools.

The documents, which were written by political appointees outside of the CDC, were removed from the website in late October without a public announcement, the Hill reported.

“Some of the prior content was outdated and as new scientific information has emerged the site has been updated to reflect current knowledge about COVID-19 and schools," a spokesperson told the Hill.

Instead, the website now states that “the body of evidence is growing that children of all ages are susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection and contrary to early reports might play a role in transmission.”

It also lists in-person learning as a high risk.

The Trump administration pushed for reopening schools and experts criticized the CDC’s guidance, saying it appeared to be politically motivated and light on evidence, the news outlet reported.

Peppers is a hotel that is now strictly used as a quarantine medi hotel?

Wonder how many are housed there.

Sounds like the jobs associated with Peppers are high risk with the contact transmission and a casual chat (masks? maybe not?) with other employees producing an outbreak.
Hopefully they can get this cluster under control quickly!

Each 'intake' city has at least several medi hotels. Yes, Peppers is one of them.

I think the staff are good with PPE around the incoming Aussies and while doing their jobs - they can easily deal with a few thousand people every week, and have been for a long time.

I think they likely were relaxed when talking to each other at some point. I guess if the cleaner hadn't touched her face, none of this would have happened.
But it is not bad (and hopefully wont be), there is no-one ill in the hospital. Two elderly people are in the hospital out of 'an abundance of caution'.

Hmmmmm. Hmmmmm. Have y'all been here in the thread to remember months back, outbreak from Quarantine hotel due to the fact that a guard and a quarantined person of the opposite gender "got together" shall we say. IIRC @margarita25, you remember that?

Opinion | How to Deal With People Who Ignore Covid Safety

This is a good article, realistic in the sense that apparently all of the messages people are getting are not changing behavior ( as in lots of people are going to gather for Thanksgiving)------The author describes how, for example, when people are educated to change their diets to live healthier or for an illness, lots of people simply don't pay attention. The author thinks testing is a much better idea-----though not perfect.

Delusional COVID Truthers Try to Invade Hospital Where This Mom Died Too Soon

You have to read this to believe it--- These "covid truthers" tried to invade a hospital to prove that the virus is a hoax and there were no patients in the ICU- thank goodness they didn't get into the ICU. The story of this nurse's death is astounding because it was predictable----she predicted her own death but had she and her husband used sound principles of staying away from family members she would no doubt be alive. The deceased lady's husband comes out with the truth: these people are saying all this crap because they are trying to keep the delusion alive that this virus is a hoax, or it isn't so bad, because their DEAR LEADER says so.

Health care workers most at risk for COVID-19: A new study finds nurses have the highest prevalence of infection

[The study, published in the journal BMC Infectious Diseases, found that in early spring, the participants most likely to test positive for COVID-19 were nurses, workers taking care of multiple patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 and those who worked in a hospital with a higher proportion of infected patients.

As of Nov. 15, 2020, according to the CDC, there were more than 216,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases among health care workers in the United States, leading to at least 799 deaths.]

For those who have been asking, Dr. Campbell today discusses studies done for 6-8 months post infection re immunity (B and T cells---->>B cells produced in bone marrow, T helper/killer cells produced in thymus).

  • The memory B cells were more abundant at 6 months than at 1 month... so cannot calculate a half-life yet post infection.
  • CD4 T cells (helper cells that signal to B cells to make Ab's) and CD8 T cells (killer cells that kill infected cells) declined over those 6 months with a half life of 3-5 months. (Expected to reach a slower decay phase as original 2003 SARS CoV T cells have lasted 17 years)
  • Still only 25 cases of reinfection in the literature (diagnosed by genetic studies to be included in this number)
  • Memory B and T cells take 3-5 days to activate in the future. That means could be infectious to others but may not be very infectious as viral numbers could be lower.

6 lawmakers in 5 days: New COVID-19 infections put spotlight on Congress’ loose guidelines

'I don't need your instruction': Sens. Sherrod Brown and Dan Sullivan argue over wearing masks

Minnesota Senate GOP held large, in-person dinner party just before COVID outbreak

Wed, November 18th (Your tax $'s at work)

COVID-19 has loomed over Congress for much of the year yet lawmakers are still bickering over wearing face masks and not social distancing. And Congressional leaders have refused to make coronavirus testing mandatory for lawmakers traveling back and forth to their home states.

In less than a week six lawmakers announced they had tested positive for COVID-19 and sent several others into quarantine all while the U.S. Capitol welcomed back more than 500 legislators in the House and Senate this week. Sen. Chuck Grassley, one of the oldest members of the Senate, became the latest senator to announce a positive test Tuesday night.

He spent much of Monday on Capitol Hill. He casted votes, spoke on the Senate floor, and attended a meeting with Senate Republican leadership. Grassley announced his diagnosis the following day. Senators have been seen regularly on the chamber floor exchanging words in close contact.

@NBCNews correspondent @LACaldwellDC Tweeted:
"House Dem and GOP leaders are holding respective dinners for new members. Speaker Pelosi told me it’s safe. “It’s very spaced,” she said and there is enhanced ventilation and the Capitol physician signed off."

UPDATE:
House Democrat's change new-member dinner to grab-and-go after facing criticism

I notice that the media are saying that the FL governor has pretty much disappeared from the public eye. Isn't giving any briefings about the escalating cases.

And the WH Coronavirus Task Force is showing FL to be in the red zone.

A White House Coronavirus Task Force report warned that expanding community spread should be addressed immediately in Florida by expanding mitigation policies in counties with increasing cases and daily hospitalizations.

That report, indicating Florida was again in the COVID-19 red zone, was issued on October 25 but only recently became public, causing some members of the state's congressional delegation to ask what took so long.
Florida Lawmakers Question DeSantis's Lack of COVID-19 Transparency

Where's DeSantis? Gov silent as state's COVID-19 cases rise

As COVID-19 cases surge, where is Gov. DeSantis?

Trust me, Our Mini-Me G0vernor is just so representative of Florida politics......There are so many outside money forces that come to Florida. When I read of "good governors" and good folks in various state Health Departments doing such hard work... THIS is the stuff we read about here in the state......... it never ends. Could have in 2018--but we missed by a hair having a quality civil servant.

DeSantis pick for COVID isolation centers was GOP donor with shady past

No-bid Florida COVID contracts flow to Desantis donors

LIVE Q&A AGAIN with Dr. Mike and Dr. Maria. Great so far. 17 minutes in right now, should have posted earlier, but I'm sure will be uploaded for view later.

They are now addressing publics questions vs. their normal WHO audience of media only. This is the second one I've seen. And they are really talking to the "common folks" who don't know science... using words that relate to "common folks" iykwim.

KUDOS!

I think they are trying to set the trend to reach the masses with such discussions for world leaders and others as to how to engage with the masses (vs. us here at WS who have focused on science perhaps and understand so so much that others do not)

I cannot imagine what the plan for inauguration day will be.

THIS DAY and how it is handled will be a big deal MOO

This will be something that all will be watching.

Again, I cannot imagine yet how they are going to do it. However it is done, I assume it will send a strong message. And hope what is done aligns with the stance of protection and following guidelines. A normal inaguration day is WAY OFF all guidelines as we know it.

Folks have been so creative... and I do hope they have the best tech minds and health care folks etc. for something that is a game changer.

For those out of luck, there are always the scalpers. For a fee ranging from $600 to $1,500, they can book vaccine appointments, they say.

Twilight Zone!

(Like everything else wrt this pandemic)
