Maybe a bit. We are definitely in a critical period of either we get this outbreak stopped or we will have big problems.

I think they are trying to stop us moving around too much, so they can contain this outbreak. Work from home if you can. No uneccessary travel. So we will mostly just stay in our neighbourhoods. We don't want the virus getting out of the city.

They have closed gyms, playgrounds, and stopped community sports. But everything is open, with limits on how many people. No standing/mingling in pubs.
My aquafit classes are still on, with the usual social distancing and limited numbers, because the pool is an educational facility (only does swim classes and aquafit).

We are not taking any more international returnees for a bit - as we want to keep medi hotel capacity, just in case.

Yes, I think I saw that international flight arrivals were suspended for a week. Isn’t it amazing the comparison between countries...the reaction to 17 cases a day say, to I don’t know, say 200k a day(insert eye roll)...we are so very lucky to live in Aus!!
Ps Just quietly I think McGowan was ready with his finger over the border closed button ha ha Not mad at him though!

BREAKING: Gov. Reynolds issues statewide mask mandate for Iowa, additional restrictions
Statewide mask mandate for everyone over 2 in public for more than 15 minutes and can't be more than 6 feet away from those not in household (there are several exemptions).
Indoor gatherings with more than 15 or outdoor with more than 30 are prohibited (doesn't include funerals and weddings, but does include receptions)
All sporting or recreational gatherings prohibited for adults and youth except high school, college, and professional.
Bars and restaurants must be closed from 10:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m. (can still do carry out, delivery, and drive through). All employees must wear masks or face coverings.
There is alot more and the proclamtion is included. Some of the proclamation was implemented recently and I think extended.

At least 2 members of Congress announce positive Covid-19 diagnoses Monday

“At least two members of the US House of Representatives announced Monday that they tested positive for Covid-19 and another member announced he was isolating after possibly being exposed, a sign of the looming threat of coronavirus on Capitol Hill.“

[...]

“This would have been the first week for the members to return to Congress following the November 3 election. The threat of coronavirus has been a consistent influence over leaders from both parties and chambers of Congress since the pandemic began, and how lawmakers react has been under increased scrutiny amid the latest wave of cases sweeping the country.“

Biden urges Congress to pass coronavirus package with state, local government funding

“President-elect Joe Biden warned that President Donald Trump's unwillingness to accept the outcome of the 2020 election could hamper the incoming Biden administration's ability to rapidly distribute a coronavirus vaccine.

"More people may die if we don't coordinate," Biden told reporters Monday in Delaware, in a news conference after he met with labor and business leaders and delivered a speech on the economy.“

[...]

“Biden criticized Trump for failing to work with Congress to negotiate a measure to aid businesses and unemployed Americans as the pandemic rages heading into the winter.”

Berkshire Hathaway Invests in Drugmakers Seeking Covid-19 Vaccine

“Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. is betting on some of the largest firms chasing a Covid-19 vaccine.

The Omaha, Neb., conglomerate recently made new investments in large pharmaceutical companies Merck & Co., Bristol Myers Squibb Co. and AbbVie Inc., ABBV -0.69% investing between $1.8 billion and $1.9 billion in each, according to public filings. Berkshire also made a new, smaller investment in Pfizer Inc. PFE -3.34% of $136 million.

Berkshire made these investments sometime in the quarter ended Sept. 30, well before Pfizer, BioNTech SE and Moderna Inc.MRNA 9.58% reported positive results from late-stage trials of potential vaccines.“

US coronavirus: Encouraging vaccine news tempered by cases that won't let up

"“There is light at the end of the tunnel," Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz told reporters Monday of the vaccine news, a phrase echoed later in the day by Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
"But I want to be very clear. We need to get all our neighbors to the end of the tunnel," said Walz.
That tunnel is going to be a long one.”

Yes, he was pretty quick! :D
Not to worry, our feathers aren't ruffled.

Things are looking much better today. They tested thousands yesterday and only found one more case, so far. Our Premier is much happier today.
We just have to wait it out for two weeks and make sure nothing else develops.
My niece and her two boys who live in the outbreak area got tested yesterday, and they are fine.

They’re just following what their favorite influencer or reality star is doing.
Heaven forbid they have to stay home on a Saturday night.

There has been such a huge spike in cases all over since ...boom...Halloween Parties!

Seriously?! Can't even stay home on Halloween!

FINALLY, the governor of ND issued a mask mandate with some teeth to it, as there is a fine and jail time attached to it for non compliance. It's what 80% of the residents of the state have been asking for, for months.
But now we have some sheriff departments refusing to enforce the mandate.
'This is a health issue and should not be turned into a criminal issue': Southwest ND sheriffs refuse to enforce mask mandate | Grand Forks Herald

It seems to me that sheriffs who refuse to unhold the mandate should be removed from their jobs. Do they not have a duty to abide by the law?

Holy moly, if this first-hand account is legitimate, then I can only assume that anti-maskers in Texas are subconsciously suicidal. I should add that I have no reason to doubt the veracity of this nurse’s account—though I anticipate some media institutions will attempt to undercut her claims via personal attacks on her character (because this is the US, and—IMO—lately it seems many of our fellow citizens only champion free speech when it supports their political convictions). I can’t help but roll my eyes at the irony: opponents of the ACA/Obamacare got hysterical about the possibility it would result in hospitals and insurance companies creating “death panels” that dictated which patients merited treatment and which should just be left to die, and here we have a state—not coincidentally helmed by members of the same “anti-death panel” political party—where a lack of government intervention/guidance has resulted in some hospitals, apparently, determining patients’ treatments in the same crude way.

So they say they will help with PPE and medicines. Are there no military doctors/nurses/medics who can be sent to the hospitals to help? Or maybe they are already dealing with their own crisis in military hospitals?

Just adding to my own post ... I notice that a few thousand troops will be pulled back soon from Afghanistan and Iraq. Maybe there will be medical staff among those troops that can be deployed to help the overburdened US hospital staff.

Trump reportedly plans to withdraw nearly half of US troops in Afghanistan

Thank goodness. This is a big step forward for Iowa and I am rooting for you. These edicts will help everyone see that this is a real problem.

You stay safe!
