I wonder if he should have asked people to wear a mask for 30 days-- initially and then he could have asked after that time for 30 more days, etc. 30 days sounds a lot more doable to those people who are reluctant-

I think you're right. 100 days sounds like a long time.

I have to say though, I've just been out to the farm to choose a Christmas tree and do a couple of errands, and I kept my mask on outside as it was making my face toasty warm! Much easier to bear in cold weather.

People got mad here when they kept extending it month after month. Made them think it would magically go away in 30 days or a miracle would happen. Tell the public a realistic time frame so people can know what’s ahead and deal with it.

He can certainly ask, but without consequences or people to enforce it - will those that didn’t vote for him bother to listen and actually do it?

I've noticed that too- so maybe more people will wear it just to keep warm: I think Biden should mention that when he tries to sell the wearing of masks, but he probably hasn't thought about it---

I think I heard a discussion that he has some control over federal employees-- so they may have to wear a mask (though I don't know if that is true)

I think you're right or we've read/heard the same thing

"The president's executive authority does cover US government property, and Mr Biden told CNN he intended to exercise such power."

[Biden]
"I'm going to issue a standing order that in federal buildings you have to be masked."

He added: "Transportation, interstate transportation, you must be masked, airplanes and buses, et cetera."

Thanks for the info: that is good news and will help: of course by the time Biden takes charge thousands more will perish.

Maryland authorities raced to find and stop a child positive for Covid-19 from boarding a flight — CNN

“Police were informed by a local health officer at 3 p.m. on November 24 that a young boy who was about to board a plane with his family had tested positive for Covid, State Police Sgt. Travis Nelson told CNN.

The health officer told police they had been unable to reach the 9-year-old child's mother. The family was scheduled to depart from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) in less than two hours.”

“It took airport authorities about half an hour to locate the family, and by 3:45, they were able to get the mother on the phone with health officials.

It all happened in "under an hour," Nelson said. "Never got on the plane, no significant exposure there or anything like that."

The family was sent home with the isolation order for the boy and a quarantine order for his mother, due to her direct exposure.”

Lots at this link:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/12/04/coronavirus-covid-live-updates-us/

Nearly 213,000 new coronavirus cases were reported across the United States on Thursday, the highest figure yet. And at least 2,500 covid-19 deaths were reported for the third consecutive day, marking the deadliest stretch since the pandemic began.

But the government’s top infectious-disease expert said the record-setting surge doesn’t fully account for the expected increases after Americans traveled and gathered for Thanksgiving. “We have not yet seen the post-Thanksgiving peak,” Anthony S. Fauci said Friday. “That’s the concerning thing, because the numbers in and of themselves are alarming.”“

NIH director advises churches to hold ‘remote services’ amid surge

“Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, called on religious leaders to keep places of worship closed as the country grapples with record levels of coronavirus hospitalizations and deaths.

“The virus is having a wonderful time right now, taking advantage of circumstances where people have let their guard go down,” said Collins, a churchgoer himself. “Churches gathering in person is a source of considerable concern and has certainly been an instance where super spreading has happened and could happen again.”

His remarks came on the same day the Supreme Court sided with a California church challenging Gov. Gavin Newsom’s restrictions on indoor church services and ordered a federal-district court to reexamine similar previous rulings in California.

Amid heated debates across the country over mask mandates and restrictions on church services, seen by many as an affront to individual liberties and religious rights, Collins urged Christians not to see a mask mandate as “a political statement” or “an invasion of your personal freedom.”

“This is a lifesaving device,” he said. “When you put on that mask, you’re protecting yourself from other people, but mostly you’re protecting them from yourself. You’re doing the altruistic, loving thing of saying, ‘I’m going to protect people from me.’ And that’s a Christian action if ever I’ve heard one.”“

What’s in the $908 billion economic relief proposal: Stimulus checks are out, jobless aid is in

“A group of about a half-dozen centrist lawmakers unveiled an approximately $908 billion plan Tuesday that has since gained the support of top congressional Democrats and several senior Senate Republicans, breathing new life into long-stalled talks over critical economic relief.

Lawmakers have not yet released legislative text behind the plan, but a one-page summary provided by the group — titled the “COVID Emergency Relief Framework” — combines many of the central priorities of congressional leaders of each party, as well as those of President-elect Joe Biden.“

100 days is a symbolism for a President. For those that don't live in the US, you may not know we have a thing here called the "first 100 days". It's a period for which US presidents set their mark on their administration. Here's just one google search on it. Perhaps that is what he's shooting for and times with the pandemic so saying it ahead of time?

Fast Facts on the “First 100 Days”

As to 100 days, I had the exact opposite reaction as the masses that want it won't be finished until May/June???

Wow! Seems terrible to me putting it as 100 days and I usually have no problem wearing a mask, even faceshield when required. The dividing up days does sound so much more doable letting people know this is a 100 day divided up that we all are trying to reach a goal to numbers dropping. Then to praise the results between chunks of days, be positive, encouraging plus proud of the accomplishment when its showing. We are tired of the Covid daily number, people making poor choices so forth. Many of us try and still see no end. There must be a way to make the people not feel pushed but wanting to join the upbeat approach. We all love praise and more might react positively with it plus might want to join a not so hard challenge!

I think for people who reject masks, 100 days sounds like a life time--- Somebody should talk to Biden about that-- wish I could send him an Email with my suggestion LOL

Maybe think of 100 days as a performance plan!

Mask wearing has been made into something like punishment, torture, control etc that it should be more like a Kindness Act for your own safety and others as we are all loved by someone or love someone. We can not see the germs and are not aware that our face covering might have helped at times. Wearing a mask, hand washing so forth for the time period we are asked to has kept so many people avoiding or passing illness. We that do those things might have even spread kindness instead of Covid to the not so eager mask wearer. We all win as we all count and deserve love and health! No use pushing the ones that don't want to give back, we will never understand their thinking of not wanting to be kind back.

Actually if we had a kind nurse that would explain how it all works with a short simple talk and visual that might open up more minds. My nurse sister explained to me the mask importance and more so I really want to avoid how/where the germs enter and starts off. This can be a scary thought and avoided by a simple mask! Of course distance too. It is reality, just how it all spreads.

Those who reject masks aren’t going to go for it either way. I will say, Texas has had a state-wide mask mandate for months. I believe it went into effect early July, so about five months at this point. We were the first state to hit a million cases, and our hospitals are buckling under the pressure of the recent surge just like most other states.

Don’t get me wrong, I do believe masks help. I think things would be far worse if we weren’t wearing masks in public. I’ve worn an N95 at work since early June and don’t leave my house without either an N95 or KN95. My college-aged daughter had covid 3 months ago. We all wore N95’s and nobody else got it (we were all tested multiple times, and I test 1-2 times per week at work anyway). But 30 days isn’t long enough to see an impact of wearing masks due to the lengthy incubation period and time it takes to develop serious symptoms.

My fear would be two fold if they tried to go with 30 days. One, we know it would have to be extended, and that alone kills trust and makes things seem truly endless when it’s done in 10/14/30 day increments. Two, we would get to the end of 30 days, and things will inevitably be worse due to the fact that infections that occurred prior to the mask-wearing would still be getting worse, deaths climbing, etc.

I distinctly remember people in Texas grumbling “see, masks don’t work!!” A WEEK after the mask mandate went into effect and cases were still rising. It’s going to take longer than 30 days to see an impact on universal masking.
