Pfizer has developed a dry-ice briefcase that can keep the vaccine safe for 10 days.

“You can have it it in the regular freezer at minus-four for only 24 hours,” said Professor Bennett. “And you can only have it out of the freezer for an hour or so before administering the vaccine. So there’s a logistic challenge there.”

Thanks again to the person upthread this week that said to click on the title in an embedded youtube to open it in another tab! It's made following so much better to do it that way vs. clicking on the arrow and having to view within the thread or what I thought was the only other option of right clicking and copying the url and then going to another tab and pasting it in.

UK Pfizer vaccine rollout

Bumping some old information on Pfizer and the "package" as was overviewed in Cuomo presser... and adding another source which goes into detail of US plans. Perhaps rules differ in UK for such as in the US and operation warp speed as in the United States they are requiring a temperature probe and geomonitor in each package (now I understand why they have to return the cartons as I thought at first "why would they have to return a container".... $$$ probes and geotrackers!) so allows for more variation as the quality control can be monitored for temperature and stability and UK not doing that? It does sound like such to me reading up on it.

So many are approaching so differently all over the world, and hope that everyone learns from each other "best practices" to meet the needs of their countries and inherent limitations they may have.

-----------------

Cuomo is talking about vaccines, and to show how real it is, at 12:45 timestamp, he's opening up a mock container of Pfizer vaccines that has been received. (Pfizer got no assistance from government, and is a New York company) Has a geomonitor (GPS like) and a temperature probe so can be monitored as to where it is, and what temp it is at all times. He's going into quite a bit as to how it's handled!

Thaw vial 30 minutes, dilute vial and let stand for 2 hours, then you have 6 hours to administer dosage (5 doses per vial)

Dry Ice Is Hotter Than Ever

Shipping companies have to take extra care in flying large loads of Pfizer’s dry-ice-packed vaccine boxes, so the CO2 doesn’t escape and overcome flight crews. The Federal Aviation Administration has had to give FedEx special guidance to increase their capacity.

Operation Warp Speed has, in the past two weeks, promised to deliver the initial 50 pounds of dry ice to resupply Pfizer’s vaccine cartons to every location that receives the vaccine and doesn’t have a freezer, at the same time as the vaccine itself arrives, via FedEx or UPS.

The vaccine supplies can be stored in Pfizer’s shipping container for another 15 days, if the dry ice is replaced every five days. But if it is to stay frozen, Pfizer says, the box can only be opened twice a day to remove supplies, and then for no more than three minutes each time. The vaccine can be thawed and held at an ordinary refrigerator temperature—2 to 8 degrees Celsius (36 to 46 degrees Fahrenheit)—for five additional days.

So the people who get a container of vaccine will have to plan their need for the vaccine carefully. And because of dry ice’s perishability, once Pfizer’s vaccine is approved, it will set off a furious race to make enough dry ice to ensure the vaccine stays cold as long as it needs to.

Also, from Dixie's posted link .... (a video mentioned by Dr C - it is worth viewing in the link below, shows Russia's hidden hospital situation)

A cemetery, that six months ago was only half empty, is now full - a stark illustration of the vast number of people who are dying of Covid in Russia.

The government insists the virus is under control, official figures show deaths at just over 40,000, but the doctors union supported by the opposition claim the true death toll is being hidden.

‘Makes you ask why the hell we even bother.’ Infectious disease experts face disillusionment as COVID-19 pandemic worsens
more at link

The country, and in particular this city, is home to some of the greatest public health experts in the world, many of whom have spent their careers preparing for a crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic.

But as the worsening outbreak drags into its ninth month and politics too often prevail over science, many infectious disease experts say they are increasingly disillusioned. The rush of adrenaline and resolve from the pandemic’s early months has given way to frustration and fatigue caused by those government leaders who have ignored scientific data and a public that has often shrugged off — or been openly hostile to — informed guidance. As cases and deaths surge across the country, some feel they are screaming into the void.

You can feel the man's frustration and shock at how the United States Of America has become worse than a third world country. When epidemiologists have to worry about death threats, you know you are in very deep trouble as a country. I would have to say right now it appears hopeless as far as getting control of this virus: After all these people travelled over Thanksgiving, we have to get ready for a monster surge-more sickness, more deaths----

Mass. Reports More Than 5,000 COVID-19 Cases for 2nd Straight Day
For a second day in a row, there were more than 5,000 new COVID-19 cases in Massachusetts. The Department of Public Health announced Friday that there were 5,192 new coronavirus cases.
Massachusetts also reported 37 more coronavirus deaths.
The news comes on the heels of two days of record-breaking case counts in the Bay State — 4,613 Wednesday and 6,477 Thursday.
The number of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 has increased to 1,394. Of that number, 278 were listed as being in intensive care units and 134 are intubated.

Massachusetts finalizes COVID-19 vaccine distribution plans
Massachusetts should see its first COVID-19 vaccines by the middle of this month, with 300,000 units expected by the end of the year.
Those most at risk will be prioritized, but crafting a system to distribute those doses will be daunting.
Dr. Paul Biddinger, who leads the Massachusetts vaccine advisory board, says a big challenge is finding health care workers to administer doses when they’re already busy with COVID-19 patients.
"That puts a real strain on our staff, already strained with staff in the first place," Biddinger said. "Mobilizing additional staff is necessary and will happen, but it’s extremely hard to do."
Click here to read the state's COVID-19 draft vaccination plan
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health says in its draft plan it anticipates prioritizing the following populations:
Healthcare personnel likely to be exposed to or treat people, with COVID-19
People at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19, including those with underlying medical conditions and people 65 years of age and older
Other essential workers

Baker submits initial vaccine order as new coronavirus cases spike
The federal government has allocated Massachusetts 59,475 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for the first shipment that is part of 300,000 doses that the CDC is expected to send the Commonwealth by the end of December, according news release issued by Baker’s office.

The first allotment of 300,000 COVID vaccines will be for the first dose of a two-dose regimen.

First Coronavirus Vaccines in Mass. Could Be Administered Dec. 15: UMass Doctor
Finberg says the first doses could be administered as early as Dec. 15.

“A lot of smart people and people with ability have spent time thinking through this in Massachusetts,” said Dr. Finberg. “I’m confident it will go well.”

The vaccine panel has been putting together the blueprint for the rollout since August.

I've noticed over the last few days that the RT website isn't being updated daily like it was before. Is it because it's too hard to keep up with the numbers right now?

I've noticed over the last few days that the RT website isn't being updated daily like it was before. Is it because it's too hard to keep up with the numbers right now?

There was a backlog over Thanksgiving. And now, it is just harder to catch up because the numbers are changing so fast.

One issue I have noticed though, is that already Covid Positive people are getting continually re tested. If they are in the hospital, for example, it is now routine to test people prior to being admitted, and for procedures. Well, they are actually "re testing" people who are already Positive.

It clogs up the pipeline, and skews the data. Because of HIPPA, only "Positive" is shown, with name and information, but no flag that indicates this is a subsequent test.
They really need to stop this.

Another issue, from August and September, was continually testing Covid Positive people, saying that they could not go back to work until they were negative. It just kept adding Positive data to what had already been documented. And of course, we now realize it was redundant and useless, because people are still testing "Positive" 12 weeks out.

First shipments of Covid-19 vaccine will fall short - CNN

“With the Pfizer vaccine emergency use authorization expected later this month, and perhaps also for the Moderna vaccine, states are learning there's not enough for them to fully vaccinate those designated as their first and top priority.
Earlier this week, the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommended that the very first batch of Americans to get vaccinated should be frontline health care workers and residents of long term care facilities such as nursing homes. Together, they add up to about 24 million people.
Federal officials estimate about 40 million vaccines will be available by the end of the month if both Moderna and Pfizer get US Food and Drug Administration authorization -- only enough to vaccinate 20 million people, because two doses are needed for each person.

But even that number will fall short. Pfizer is only expected to have 6.4 million doses of vaccine ready by mid-December.“

Ummm, Ummmm. I've got that sleeping and eating thing down... but the daily showering left the barn long ago.

:(:confused::oops:o_O

{{HUGS}} to you, dixiegirl!

If I didn't have to get up and go to work 5 days a week I think I would have major self-care issues by this time (and they're not great to begin with, lol).

Trying to recall, he told us what that dog meant way back. It was some ?? award ?? Was it about depression? @margarita25 do you recall?

I've read that Winston Churchill struggled with depression and used to call it his "black dog." Maybe something along those lines? (I sadly have a black dog of my own)

My use of birth defects/vaccines was intended only as only as an illustrative example. You’re right, by reading one person’s unsubstantiated idea the reader wouldn’t have enough info to make a decision but it might raise the question so they would be on the lookout for other information to learn the facts. And also to your point, who would take anything as a fact because one of one person’s unsubstantiated hypothesis? Almost no-one, so why does facebook need to step in to protect us from ourselves.

Another extreme example for illustrative purposes: Say the FB powers that be believe that Darwin’s “survival of the fittest” is bunk and the work of the Devil. An idea that encourages people to denounce our creator putting souls at risk? So they block any mention of Darwin’s theory to protect people from Satan thus saving their souls. There are a bunch of people who believe just that. Hopefully one of those people aren’t in charge of FB’s delete button, but what if they were?

Or what if the keeper knows something may be true but if word got out it would jeopardize a political or religious movement they believe in with all their soul. Might they delete that content for what they think were righteous reasons? Again an extreme and disturbing example, a Hitler fanatic deleting posts suggesting a government facility might actually be a concentration camp?

Obviously I don’t think anyone at FB is a Hitler proponent—it’s just an example. But what guarantee do we have that the person/people who are in charge of content screening believe something we might take issue with? Or believe they are doing the right thing by squashing facts for the greater good? While odds may be low, there IS no guarantee and for that reason I don’t want anyone controlling what content I and everyone else gets to see.

Those are really interesting examples and points. In the US, we have freedom of the press/freedom of speech and naturally, that means we have publications all across the political/ideological spectrum.

Editors of publications have the right to decide what to publish. If FB did take a stand against science/Darwin, I would stop using it. I've come really close to stopping over their lax attitude on vaccines, and many of my friends deactivated their accounts - most are now back, now that FB is trying to suppress the worst of it.

I don't want anyone controlling content (beyond the content provider) but I am well aware that the content providers themselves control whatever they want to control. Right now, there are two Youtube channels that are at the level of 4chan and 8chan and we all know what happened to those places. It's a really interesting topic for WS (legal matters involving content providers), would be a great topic for the chat area or the "news that should be in the news" threads.
