Omg I didn’t even think about that..

Yes, I alluded to this the other day. A benefit of Australia - and NZ, and others - trying to stay healthy is vaccination should be quicker, smoother, and more rapidly effective (I have read about this issue before).

However, I know that part of our covid vaccination plan includes skilling up more people to administer vaccines. Perhaps med students, and others, can achieve a 'trained vaccination giver certificate'.
This is something that other countries can do as well.

The Australian Government is responsible for:
specifying minimum training requirements for the immunisation workforce and providing guidance on appropriate workforces for the various phases of the immunisation program

State and Territory Governments are each responsible for:
ensuring appropriately qualified and trained workforce to support delivery of its jurisdictional implementation plan, in collaboration with relevant peak bodies and training providers

Eta / more sighs / “the most Americans hospitalized since the beginning of the pandemic...” :(

And that is the major problem with having an unhealthy population when and as the vaccine arrives.

Dr Jeff Smith, Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre: "The biggest challenge is that the vaccines are becoming available right at the time that we are experiencing another surge. So the nurses who would commonly be the ones to administer the vaccines are needed at the bedside to care for covid patients. As well as non-covid patients."

Also from the newscast, next week up to 25% of hospitals (nationwide) could be understaffed.

Report: COVID-19 exposure has sidelined all of Denver's QBs for Sunday

Jeff Driskel’s positive COVID-19 test has sidelined the entire Broncos quarterback room.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter,Drew Lock, Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles have all been deemed close contacts and are ineligible to play against the Saints on Sunday afternoon. None of the quarterbacks were wearing masks when they came in contact with Driskel.

As of 6:45 Saturday night, the game was still on as scheduled. Schefter also reported the Broncos wouldn’t forfeit, so they’re going to have to get creative, but don’t expect 60-year-old John Elway to come down from the general manager’s booth.

Just in: Colorado Governor Polis and his husband both tested positive for COVID. Both asymptomatic and feeling fine so far.

Gov. Polis, partner test positive for COVID | 9news.com

Oh no...

Hopefully he and his partner will continue to be asymptomatic and be okay.

Eta:
From above:

“Polis had been quarantining since Wednesday after being exposed to someone else who had tested positive.”

[...]

“DENVER — Gov. Jared Polis (D-Colorado) and his partner, Marlon Reis, have both tested positive for COVID-19, according to a post on the governor's Facebook page Saturday night.“

[...]

“Wednesday night, the governor's office released a statement announcing Polis was in quarantine after being exposed to someone who had tested positive for COVID-19.

A test that day came back negative, but the release said he would be tested again in the coming days.“

Nooooooo...

Canada....what happened...you guys were doing so well, and have really had it together...

Seriously, I’m interested in what the heck happened....It’s been so crazy here in the States, and I haven’t kept up with Canada, but have been meaning to, as you know I was very interested and still am interested in other countries as well, and was watching Global News Canada daily in the early days and posting videos...

Gosh, I hope you guys can put out the fires.

Keep caring, keep fighting
(waving Canadian flag)

@LadyL , pls keep us updated on the Ontario “nosocomial situation”...

Yeah, I’m not liking these numbers out of Manitoba...sounds all too familiar...

“The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 14.2% provincially and 13.9% in Winnipeg, both down from Friday’s numbers. As of 9:30 a.m., Saturday, 487 new cases of the virus have been identified and the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 16,118. The vast majority of the new cases – 307 – come from Winnipeg while there were 104 new cases in Southern Health, 38 in Northern, 23 in Interlake-Eastern and 15 in Prairie Mountain Health region.

There are currently 9,024 active cases including 6,537 from Winnipeg while 6,804 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. There are a pandemic-high 327 people in hospital with 44 people in intensive care.“

Interesting information about Canada. I thought that they had a strict 2 week quarantine protocol for people who have been traveling. So much for that plan.

I question the validity of this report. It would mean the Broncos had quarterbacks to began with and from the games I've seen they have none.

Don't they still have the quarantine for travelers?

They say Canada is spiking due to this ...

They say Thanksgiving on October 12th may have contributed to the case increase, but because the current trend was well established before Thanksgiving, officials aren't singling it out as the cause.

"The more important point is that the current increase is being driven in part by social gatherings of all kinds, including private/family gatherings," Buick says, "And we are urgently asking people to reduce gatherings and all social/non-essential contacts."
