So here is what our fellow citizens are doing in response to this super surge: i just saw on the Today Show: In Staten Island they closed down in-door dining in this restaurant and fining the owner-- so, our fellow citizens took to the streets by the thousands to protest!!!!! Good luck trying to bring this virus under control. These selfish clueless people are killing the rest of us and they don't care!!!!
We truly look like idiots to other countries. And apparently far too many of us actually are. Not the US’s proudest moment by a long shot. It’s embarrassing.

Let us not forget the whole transverse myelitis thing.
(eta / quick reference:
NIH ‘Very Concerned’ About Serious Side Effect in Coronavirus Vaccine Trial / Sept. 14, 2020)

Again, the goal here is NOT to disrupt and dissuade vaccine confidence, rather the intention here is to approach all concerns head on and work through everything. I want all of us to feel comfortable. I’m scared. Maybe @Colorado303 can wear a beekeeper suit and hold my hand. :D
I will be happy to. I’ll go first and bring festive bandaids we can wear afterwards. I think I still have an old fraternity wineskin. I’ll bring that too.

NY is reopening rent aid program and expanding eligibility requirements.

Cuomo is talking about vaccines, and to show how real it is, at 12:45 timestamp, he's opening up a mock container of Pfizer vaccines that has been received. (Pfizer got no assistance from government, and is a New York company) Has a geomonitor (GPS like) and a temperature probe so can be monitored as to where it is, and what temp it is at all times. He's going into quite a bit as to how it's handled!

Thaw vial 30 minutes, dilute vial and let stand for 2 hours, then you have 6 hours to administer dosage (5 doses per vial)

I said to an Aussie mate yesterday "50% of US people are doing the right thing, and are so uncomfortable with the 50% who are not". (Stats may be way out, but I wanted to get across that there are many of you good people there.)

I wish the US media would promote the actions of all the people who are doing the right thing. They are 'rewarding' the people who are causing trouble by giving them infamy.

I may sound like the crazy conspiracy lady, but I do not like the idea of "vaccination cards". What will I be prevented from doing without the official government-issued card? Will I be able to shop, work, travel, own a car, dine in a restaurant, etc. without it?

Okay, getting the initial gut-punch panic out of the way, let me go read the article/watch the video, ha ha.

From the article it seems that the card is a reminder to you when to get your next vaccine, rather than something you show anyone. It would be easily forged, so I can’t imagine it would be used for “admission” to any place.

Facebook to remove COVID-19 vaccine-related misinformation

“Facebook said Thursday it will start removing false claims about COVID-19 vaccines, in its latest move to counter a tide of coronavirus-related online misinformation.

In the coming weeks, the social network will begin taking down any Facebook or Instagram posts with false information about the vaccines that have been debunked by public health experts.”
I’m not enthusiastic that FaceBook is taking it upon themselves to decide what is and isn’t accurate. Not at all. I prefer to do my own vetting and am truly concerned they may censor valid concerns if they think “it’s the right thing to do”. It annoys me that they feel the need to be my keeper.

John Hopkins says the US hit the 3,000 daily covid deaths rate on Wednesday.

According to the Johns Hopkins University tracker, 3,157 new deaths were recorded on Wednesday, more than the number of people killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Across the US, the surge has swamped hospitals and left nurses and other healthcare workers shorthanded and burned out.

Redfield said that about 90% of hospitals in the country were at stretched capacity.
“We are at a very critical time right now about being able to maintain the resilience of our healthcare system,” he said.

US logs a record 3,157 coronavirus deaths in one day

Delaware governor announces stay-at-home advisory, universal mask mandate

“Delaware Governor John Carney announced a new stay-at-home advisory on Thursday, urging all residents to avoid gathering indoors with anyone outside their household to combat the rising COVID-19 cases. The order goes into effect from December 14 and lasts through January 11.

The advisory does not apply to Delawareans in workplaces and traveling to and from their places of work.

Carney is also issuing a universal statewide mask mandate requiring Delawareans to wear a cloth face covering anytime they are indoors with anyone outside their immediate household. A similar mask mandate, which required people to wear masks in public settings where social distancing was not possible, is already in effect. Children under 2 years old are not required to wear masks.”

It would be as if classroom size were cut in half - so yes, it will protect the non-vaccinated. The hard part is that right now, there's no good evidence to show that the vaccinated can't spread COVID (at least briefly).

That's why the vaccine is so important - if nothing else works to bring down COVID rates and deaths, taking half of the population and making them immune is a huge stride forward.

Unfortunately, we have to assume that the unvaccinated are often around other unvaccinated people (and would be so in a classroom - the unvaccinated kids would spread it to other unvaccinated kids...)

So the unvaccinated will be at the same risk if they are all congregating in other settings. I think a lot about the places where bars and clubs are still open, where churches still have large gatherings, and where weddings and funerals still go on as before. And I do think that there will be entire subcultures where no one is vaccinated.

Yes, and there also will be some who were vaccinated but who did not developed a good titre, and they will get covid too.

I think they are aiming to remove the conspiracy theory posts, like the ones that say the vaccine changes your DNA, or that it has microchips that allow governments to spy on you.

Is there any way you could grant 70% of us doing the right thing? 50-50 seems too depressing and hopeless.

I absolutely had no idea until this pandemic that so many idiotic, ignorant, illogical, callous, malicious fellow Americans live among us. I'm permanently baffled.

A SEA CHANGE

Now the good Doctor doesn't have to worry about getting fired every time he levels truthfully with the American people.

Everybody knows the vaccine doesn't have microchips in it....Would be cost
prohibited and slow down the vaccine rollout to everyone.... lol

The SARS-CoV-2 Global Surveillance Project provides standard surveillance metrics that are useful and allow us to compare regions even though they are limited to more severe cases and suffer from incomplete case ascertainment and data contamination. To address these data limitations, we validated additional novel surveillance metrics of (1) speed, (2) acceleration, and (3) jerk (change in acceleration), (4) 7-Day Lag, (5) 7-Day Persistence effect.

I'm not sure what prevention methods are in place in our aged care facilities in my state, but whatever they are they seem to be working .....

Professor Spurrier (CHO) said avoiding transmission of coronavirus to residents at a Brompton aged care facility, which recorded four COVID-positive cases among staff members in November, was "something to celebrate".
"We did have four staff who were infectious, and we had two initial staff who were even in that facility, but we didn't have any transmission," she said.
"This is absolutely because of the planning that had been done over the last many months … to make sure residents are kept as safe as possible in our aged care facilities."

Hospitality restrictions relaxed early in SA as health chief's advice overruled

(We are now down to 7 active cases - with just 272 still in quarantine. Getting there, slowly but surely .... fingers crossed!)
