Why is COVID-19 more contagious than the flu?

A good article that explains why Covid is more contagious than the flu: There is one glaring issue this Henry Ford Hospital physician does not describe: the asymptomatic carrier: he describes a longer incubation period for Covid and during this time the person doesn't know they have the disease and is contagious, but he does not describe the asymptomatic person--- and we know those are the most dangerous---and that there are millions of them walking around----

I believe Hahn himself has stated this isn’t an accurate representation of the conversation with the chief of staff. Why any reputable news source would choose to put out information that’s A. untrue, and B. would easily risk increasing doubt/skepticism about a vaccine so desperately needed is beyond me. But this does seem to be a situation of “you shouldn’t believe everything you read”. Who knows what the truth is.

I suspect the truth is that Hahn was told very firmly that he was expected to approve the vaccine immediately.

Donald Trump accuses FDA chief of 'playing games' as he demands Pfizer vaccine be approved 'now'

"We are in the time frame now that probably for the next 60 to 90 days, we're going to have more deaths per day than we had in 9/11," CDC director Dr. Robert Redfield said. "This is going to be a real unfortunate loss of life, as all that we've had so far, and the reality is the vaccine approval this week is not going to really impact."

What Happens When a Superspreader Event Keeps Spreading

The irony is that a large drug company was responsible for triggering the mother of
all superspreader events that played a major role in making the virus endemic in the United States. Top Biogen execs accidentally triggered a massive health care train
wreck and watched it play out from the side lines.

More on vitamin D from Dr. Seheult. He has more information now than I've seen in his previous ones. e.g. high fructose corn syrup in diet can inactivate the active form of vitamin D. (overweight people?), and people with kidney disease lose vitamin D3 etc.

Trivia , did you know that the word vitamin is derived from vital amine? (although vitamin D is actually an enzyme/hormone, not an amine)

He has a VERY extensive reference list below the video.

I won't be surprised if we surpass the 675,000 deaths from the Influenza of 1918--
and the worse thought of all, is that many of those deaths could have been prevented with proper leadership with proper messaging---

At that time, the population of the United States was 103.2 million. IF IF I have my math right... that was 0.655% of the US population. 675,000/103,200,000.

328 million was the latest as to population of US in 2019 per google.

Math on back of envelope... 300,000 deaths so far/328,000,000 is 0.0915% if if if my envelope is correct.

Another back of envelope is that 1918 overall/so far was 7 times greater over that 1 1/2 period in the early 1900's.

Egads.

Your back of an envelope maths is correct. The USA (as well as the UK and several other countries) has lost almost 1 in every 1000 citizens to Covid, and will exceed that figure in a few days.

Huh? Once you state it like that I'm in disbelief that the number of 1 in every 1,000 has died.

I'm not "not believing you" but I'm trying to redo to believe it as to that statement. That just cannot be true????? What am I not understanding?

Can someone do the math again as that just... is unfathomable to me and I need more info to convince as I'm not good with such math.

If we were to round up 0.09% to 0.1%.. that is 0.1 per hundred... etc. etc... and then I get lost. Wouldn't it then be 0.01 per thousand? Doesn't the decimal point move to the right vs. the left?

Math person needed to walk through it please?

The current figure for the US is 913 covid deaths per million of the population, increasing by about 10 'points' each day. So in a week or two you'll be at 1,000 deaths per 1,000,000, which is the same 1 in a 1000.

(your 0.0915% is almost 0.1% which equates to the same)

Coronavirus Update (Live): 71,712,420 Cases and 1,606,134 Deaths from COVID-19 Virus Pandemic - Worldometer

Still scratching my head.. I'm moving the decimal point to the right and you are moving to the left?

Off for errands and delivery of a chili I made for a neighbor and then to a take out for another neighbor. I'll check back later. As Winnie the Pooh .. I'll have to think think think.

Think of it this way: 1% would be 1 in 100. 0.1% is 1 in 1000.

In other words 1000 in 1000000, knock 3 noughts off each.

Unsure what forum to post on. Want to thank everyone with the support and just knowing we are similar in thoughts adds comfort. My brother in law has been sick with Covid several days but was up moving around a bit last night so I hope he is on the getting better end as it is still early and I have heard things can turn. My sister has cared for him with masks but he did ask for a hug because he was scared, problems breathing. I can't imagine she wouldn't give him a hug. She sleeps in a nice basement bedroom, with a bathroom. He stays upstairs. He sent a picture last night of her sleeping with her furry friend dogs on and around her - I love that they are there for her. I hope she can remain healthy and he keeps getting better. I am greatly sorry for those losing family, love and hugs.

It is very interesting to read the beginning of this thread, from #1, when this was back in January. How little we knew that a "flu", far away in Wuhan, would come to impact every single part of our lives.

The thread is full our journey from the beginning. A history of how the impressions changed, almost daily. How this impacted people. And I wonder what happened to some of the people from the beginning? Where are they now?

Just do simple division.
328,000,000 population ÷ 300,000 dead = 1093

1 in 1093 died.

I'm sorry your brother-in-law is going through this, and your sister too, as his caregiver. I'd be scared if I had trouble breathing, too. I hope they have a pulse oximeter and are checking his oxygen level. And I am praying he is on the mend, and your sister manages to stay healthy!

You could post on the WS members who have covid thread, too, if you like.
