CMAs Respond to Backlash Over Charley Pride's COVID-19-Related Death — Entertainment Tonight

“Pride attended the 2020 CMA Awards, which were held indoors at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tennessee, on Nov. 11. At the awards show, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award and sang “Kiss an Angel Good Morning” with Jimmy Allen. During the telecast, many viewers expressed social distancing concerns when people in attendance weren't wearing masks.

“In a statement on Pride's Facebook, it was revealed that "he was admitted to the hospital in late November with Covid-19 type symptoms and despite the incredible efforts, skill and care of his medical team over the past several weeks, he was unable to overcome the virus."

I wonder what will happen to the vaccines when they reach their destinations? It seems unlikely that health centers, Walgreens, etc., will have that type of subarctic storage capability.

They can keep them in special cooler boxes for 5 days or something like that before they get too warm; suspect that there will be planning to administer these before they arrive at any site.

By no means diminishing his passing, but it's sad that people seem to care and notice more when a famous 86 year old musician dies rather than when 86 yr old Joe Smith dies alone in a nursing home/hospital.

I recall months ago, someone well known came out and said it. If a famous entertainer/sports star were dying every single day of Covid-19, perhaps it would make people notice what the he** is going on.

a lot of famous people have died, but some have survived- remember Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson way back? it is still a weird mixed message- like Russian roulette- some live, some die. I am always surprised that people are still having and going to parties and traveling.... and trying to go on cruise ships....

Okay- call me naieve -- never thought about something like this-- WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE??? PPE's polluting our oceans--- I am gobsmacked!!!!

Oh. Well, the masks are everywhere here in California. Outdoor movies? Masks all over. Grocery stores? Masks all over. They are swept into storm drains.

I'm not sure why paper masks (ill-fitted) have become the world norm and I suspect the issue is the same in Europe (where nearly everyone seems to be wearing a disposable mask).

You know, you have to wear a mask, so you grab one from a box before you leave home and then throw it somewhere on the ground (by your car?) before you head home again. Why bring COVID into your house?

Even people who put their masks into another container (plastic bag) ultimately throw them in the trash and they go to the landfills, where they are not exactly biodegradable. We humans suck, basically.

But...to leave them at the beach/parking lots/etc is a terrible thing for the people who have to pick them up. I'm reading that in some places (San Francisco) the waste collecting people have higher rates of COVID. Oh, and I read an article about that being true in Paris and London as well.

Which is why we should all stay home, if we can. This promenading about and then stopping at an outdoor restaurant should just stop.

It is very interesting to read the beginning of this thread, from #1, when this was back in January. How little we knew that a "flu", far away in Wuhan, would come to impact every single part of our lives.

The thread is full our journey from the beginning. A history of how the impressions changed, almost daily. How this impacted people. And I wonder what happened to some of the people from the beginning? Where are they now?

I was glued to the news coming from China in Dec/19 and Jan/20.... could scarcely focus on anything else. Everything else seemed unimportant compared to this disease but no one else seemed all that concerned. I thought or hoped that the "authorities" would be shutting or monitoring the borders. I had to give a lecture in early March and I was terrified- why was it still going forward? I remember eating out and thinking: is this the last time I will be able to do this? well, sort of. I was terrified in Mar-Apr and I really cannot comprehend that we are back in a bad situation again. We did shut the virus down for awhile but it came right back. So far it is doing well against our supposed knowledge. Lets hope the vaccines tip the scale.

are people going to start trying to steal vaccines and meds? illegal sales? impersonating medical professionals? eek.

I am more concerned that people like my husband, a disabled veteran, will be pretty far down on the list for a vaccine. After all, NBA players must be able to play basketball this season. There are priorities.

you should see the crap that's in our waterways
humans suck

Agreed, but don't know what to do about it.

They don't have to impersonate. There are plenty of "medical professionals" who will procure vaccines for their peeps. IMO.

I hope that his age qualifies him...but it is so dependent on local authorities doing..whatever they're going to do.

His age will be more important than his veteran status, I think. And his disability. I am reading that since Walmart and CVS are now going to get involved with (future) distribution, it will be based on self-declaration (and proof of age).

Keep in mind that you, yourself, as an essential worker, need to get the vaccine (which will protect both of you). I'm planning to drag DH along with me and I think the pharmacy tech (let's face it - it will be a pharmacy tech in February or March)...will just give us both the vaccine.

(I have a tendency to over-imagine things, though).

It's sad that veterans won't get priority unless they're in longterm care.

if he is over 65- gets priority... if he is 64 yrs and 364 days, he is the same as a 20 yr old... what a difference a day can make.

Well, at least he wouldn't have to wait until Spring.

I think once the Essential workers, people 65 and older, and those who are high risk are vaccinated it will be several months before the "ordinary citizen" will be able to receive the vaccine.

I wonder how they will handle family caregivers.

I hope this brief video is allowed ... because if anyone wants to easily understand how the vaccine works, this short video explains it beautifully - in a manner in which a layperson can understand.

Why would the USA have 500,ooo. Dead within the next 2.5 weeks? Where on earth are you coming up with this? Sheese.

Not mixed up, because I'm not calculating percentage of death. Just calculating how many death per total population.

So, say we have 500,000 dead at the end of December.
328,000,000 population / 500,000 dead = 656

We will have 1 dead per 656 citizens. It gets scarier and scarier as more people die.

I respectfully and strongly disagree. We NEVER shut the virus down. Every chart will show that fact in a visual form.

Some countries may have used their knowledge to contain the virus, but America is definitely not one of them. The data makes that crystal clear.

No, you are probably correct. The official projection at this point in time is 332,000+ deaths by 31st December. :(

IHME | COVID-19 Projections

However, I think it could go much higher. If you are now averaging 3,000 US covid deaths per day, and there are 19 more days till 31st December. That is at least 57,000 more deaths this month.

Add that to the existing 305,082 deaths and the US could well be at over 362,000+ deaths by the end of this year.
