WA doesn’t mess around with people not following Covid restrictions...she tested negative, poses no community transmission risk and is still lucky to be out of jail...

Your premier is definitely keeping you as safe as possible.
Our premier was speaking about the putting of barriers between the virus and our population this week.

Barrier: closed international borders
Barrier: social distancing
Barrier: washing hands, not touching face
Barrier: closed state borders, as and when required
Barrier: penalties for not following restrictions
Barrier: quarantining returned travellers
Barrier: keeping covid positive people in only one location, until well
Barrier: isolation, when required
Barrier: lockdown, when required
Barrier: masks

He said he will keep putting barriers between the virus and us, relevant barriers at relevant times.

Posted within the last hour. He speaks to lock down in UK and said mid February, but may be mid March.

He also reviews the vaccine tracker

As always, he now is doing summary under the video for those that want to just view such... although hard to "get" sometimes.

@CoverMeCagney

I notice that he says that while he feels the vaccines will still be good against the new UK variant, there is a big question mark about whether they will be good against the new South African variant.

One in 50 people in the UK currently infected with the virus.

I feel this video with Dr. Campbell is very informative.... I am pleased he is really keeping up with both new strains (Kent and South Africa).

I hope we also keep hearing from the doctor at Oxford, who was one of the developers of the Astra Zeneca vaccine. As Dr. Campbell refers, this doctor is seeing differences on the efficacy of the vaccines with both strains, and is not as confident with that SA strain being contained by vaccines. We really do have to watch this.

The other thing that was interesting with this report today, is that Campbell said he tried to get more data on the two people under quarantine in the UK with the South Africa strain, and could not find any data. Just as we have seen with the quarantined case in Australia. Maybe just to not flair up fear.....but I dunno.... I think we are waiting for a hurricane with these two virus strains.

OMG you guys. We die at home now. Pray for us..

Amid COVID-19 surge, ambulance crews in L.A. County told to conserve oxygen, not to transport patients who have little chance of survival | KTLA

The situation in L.A. County hospitals is so critical that ambulance crews have been advised to try to cut back on their use of oxygen and not to bring to hospitals patients who have virtually no chance of survival. Officials now say they need to focus on patients with a greater chance of surviving.
...

I've been thinking about this all day. It's basically a mass casualty incident. I'm reasonably certain most first responders have training exercises for these sad events. JMO

In contrast:

LA's hospital nightmare: Here's how ambulance service, 911 calls are impacted amid COVID-19 surge
  • The public is being discouraged from calling 911 unless it's an absolute emergency.
  • Dr. Marc Eckstein, medical director and commander of the LA city Fire Department EMS Bureau, says a new directive now orders first responders in the field to stop bringing patients to the hospital if their heart stops beating, like in the event of a cardiac arrest. Ambulances are being told not to transport trauma patients - victims of heart attacks, gunshot wounds, car crashes - to the hospital if they can't be resuscitated in the field.
  • Patients who aren't facing a life-threatening emergency are waiting 12-18 hours in waiting rooms just to be seen in the ER.
  • Ambulances are waiting for hours just to offload patients at hospitals.
  • Hospitals are running out of oxygen.
  • Hospitals are setting up cots in parking lots to take in patients.
...
"We're trying to encourage people to not call 911 unless they really need to," Eckstein explained. "If you need emergency medical services through 911, or leave your emergency department right now, your care may be compromised or significantly delayed."

Eckstein said the changes impact anyone experiencing a medical emergency.

"We're also looking at the same policy for victims of severe trauma, car accidents, shootings, stabbings and so forth," he said. "We're not going to be transporting those patients either. If we can't get their hearts going again, if we can't get them resuscitated on scene."

‘She was just spreading joy:’ Kaiser nurse reveals details of suspected Christmas-tree-costume COVID superspreader – East Bay Times

We discussed this already but I always wanted to see a photo of the costume, here it is:

A photo obtained by NBC Bay Area shows the inflatable Christmas tree costume worn by an employee in the emergency room at Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center on Christmas Day. (Courtesy of NBC Bay Area)

“Obviously, this is a highly unusual situation involving a well-intentioned staff member acting on their own without advance notice or approval,”

Thought I would show how the lottery vaccine program is being handled in Florida. My county is using EventBrite for signups, and they fill within seconds/minutes of "opening the floodgates" each morning.

"The Florida Department of Health in Nassau County (DOH-Nassau) has received a very limited supply of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to be made available under the federal Emergency Use Authorization to the target groups prioritized by the Governor.

ALL TICKETS FOR APPOINTMENTS HAVE BEEN CLAIMED. WE EXKPECT TO ANNOUNCE A NEW ROUND OF APPOINTMENTS BEGINNING TOMORROW , JANUARY 6, SUBJECT TO AVAILABLE VACCINE.

Nassau’s current vaccination scheduling process is:

Verify that you are in one of the currently prioritized groups:
a. Healthcare Providers with direct patient contact
b. Residents who are 65 years of age or older
Read the Moderna Vaccine Fact Sheet, the What to Expect Card, and Vaccine Screening and Consent Form
Download, review, and sign the Vaccine Screening and Consent Form
If you are in a prioritized group and have reviewed the vaccine screening and consent form, click the button below to obtain an EventBrite Order Number (an “E-Ticket” will be e-mailed to you) allowing you to schedule one of the limited upcoming appointment slots with DOH-Nassau. If there is no “Get a Ticket” button to click, all tickets for the current allotment have been claimed – please check back tomorrow or sign up to be notified by text message when more are available (text the keyword NassauSafe to 888777)
Once you have received your E-Ticket, a dose of vaccine has been allotted for your appointment! Follow the instructions in the EventBrite e-mail to schedule your individual appointment time with DOH-Nassau.

I see people on Facebook offering their help to people to sign up, at least.... Hope they are legit, but do hope it helps those elderly who are not computer literate!!

Nothing has been said much about the impact of Covid on people who have disabilities. But, in the United States, it seems like ADA laws have definitely been a causality.

If a person who does not drive or have access to transportation, he or she literally cannot get a Covid test. No Para transit will pick up someone to take them for a Covid test, especially if they have symptoms or are a contact to a positive covid case.

In regards to the access to a Covid Vaccine, it is also a similar situation. They are set up to provide vaccines to people in vehicles. Not at pharmacy or doctors office yet for general public. No transportation? No shot.

You're probably right. We used to do something called "triage" when training for a mass event to ensure the most people would be helped by the outcome. We never had a mass event, but it was a way to code the victims.

Teachers in UK have 333% more COVID than the median rate for the population.

Word still not in regarding the new variants and their effect on children's ability to transmit (it's thought that the UK variant bumps up the viral load in the nasal passages a great deal...which is already where children have high viral loads).

Well, that sounds a little better. They will only not be transporting if resuscitation measures don't work. I guess at that point, the funeral director is called. Or some morgue pick up service, if there is one?
