While we usually post these JHU videos daily, I thought it would be interesting to look at them comparatively/collectively, back to back, in a single setting:

COVID-19: Travellers arriving in England and Scotland will need negative tests to be granted entry

All travellers to England and Scotland from overseas will need to test negative for coronavirus before they are allowed to enter the country, the government has announced.

The test will need to be taken up to 72 hours before their departure - and failure to comply will result in an immediate £500 fine.

Arrivals by boat, plane and train are covered by the new regulations, which also apply to UK nationals.

This should have been done last April. Even this latest testing does not come into force until next week.

Something to watch for. Post vaccine.
Death of Florida doctor following COVID-19 vaccine under investigation

Dr. Gregory Michael, 56, an OB-GYN at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, died after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke apparently resulting from a lack of platelets.

Miami medical examiners are investigating his death, the Florida Department of Health said in a statement.

In a Facebook post, Michael's wife, Heidi Neckelmann, said he sought emergency care three days after the shot because he had dots on his skin that indicated internal bleeding.

The condition she said led to his stroke, called thrombocytopenia, results from a lower-than-normal number of platelets, which help the blood clot.

I hope that whomever injected the vaccine double checked the vial to make sure they wouldn't accidentally inject the wrong thing.

I wouldn't have thought that possible... Until it did actually happen in a recent case. Imo

Update on 2 folks I know personally that have been hospitalized.

One went home today, 92% O2 level at checkout while ON oxygen. She had the 5 rounds of Remdesivir and steroids and out she goes. Went home with Oxygen tank. (Yeah, you and I are thinking the same damn thing I bet..they need the bed). She said one of the worst things was how many times a day she heard code blue and the commotion that ensues (or doesn't).

Other family friend still in hospital.

Even aside from the obvious trauma of being in hospital, fighting for breath for days or weeks, fighting for your life...I can't imagine what it would be like to know that people in other beds were dying around you, even one would be traumatising :(

Biden will release all available vaccine doses in break from Trump administration policy of holding back stock for second dose
Exclusive: Biden will release all available vaccine doses in break from Trump administration policy of holding back stock for second dose - CNNPolitics
Looks like we’re about to find out if that second dose, and its timing, is critical after all. I’m curious to see how people take this news who were staunch opponents to even the hint of deviating from the two dose schedule. There’s no way we will have enough second doses available in a timely fashion with this plan.

Selfishly, I’m relieved my second dose is scheduled for 1/18, so whatever supply issues we might see going forward with second doses won’t be an issue for me personally.

I don't think you're selfish - I'm glad you're getting in under the wire.

I tend to agree that we won't have enough doses available, although it looks like a 6 week gap is about as effective as a 3-4 week gap. The 3-4 week recommendation was guided by getting people to full immunity faster - now it will take longer, but many people will have enough immunity to avoid a serious case of COVID - we have to get our hospital situation under control immediately. It's a huge deviation from plan, but I get it.

Johnson and Johnson debuts its vaccine in February (I think it's an adenovirus/deactivated type, IIRC) and it requires only one dose. Also, I think Biden will use the Wartime Powers Act to induce rapid production of more Modern and Pfizer (patent issues will be worked out quickly). It's not as if these things are difficult to produce, really.

So hopefully, the CDC can come up with a medically reasonable plan, we can get more vaccines into production phase.

Further, some states will decide to keep to the 2 dose schedule - it'll be up to them. But we're talking millions of people to innoculate...we're still on medical personnel here in California - they've been given their first info on how to get the vaccine - it's going to take a few weeks to do all of the people out in private practice, local clinics, etc.
