Ugh they couldn’t have started this months ago???? When numbers were low in the fall. I would have sent my kid with some regular testing (and other measures in place)going on. (HS aged kid) Haven’t even read the entire article yet. (We’ve been remote almost a year now)
Weekly COVID pool testing to begin at Massachusetts schools

Looks like we’re about to find out if that second dose, and its timing, is critical after all. I’m curious to see how people take this news who were staunch opponents to even the hint of deviating from the two dose schedule. There’s no way we will have enough second doses available in a timely fashion with this plan.

Selfishly, I’m relieved my second dose is scheduled for 1/18, so whatever supply issues we might see going forward with second doses won’t be an issue for me personally.

If they actually have already vaccinated the most vulnerable, maybe some of the less vulnerable can do well with one dose.... if the J&J one dose vaccine comes out in February, that would help too....

Same thing with me Sunday night, same symptoms. I cried, so scared of the unknown.
Negative result today.

yep.... I cried talking to the triage nurse and I felt like an idiot and I am 100% fine. I apologized to her too- she must hear a lot of bad stuff every day.

It does, however, make you think that if you could catch one virus, you could catch another. :(

And we are okay. We are going to be okay. Be strong.
I'm outside Los Angeles. It's not fun.

I think it’s worth considering, but when it’s been mentioned here in the last couple of weeks, it was summarily dismissed as idiocy to even consider going against the recommended two doses, 3-4 weeks apart. I personally think the biggest difference is who one perceives the idea came from vs anything logical or medical. I still think it’s worth considering an alternate plan, and it sounds as if the Biden administration plans to roll out the very real possibility of an alternate plan.

While we usually post these JHU videos daily, I thought it would be interesting to look at them comparatively/collectively, back to back, in a single setting:

not sure exactly what you are seeing here- I see southern CA blowing up... is there public health data on why? we definitely had extreme hot spots in some urban areas in my state and the mayors imposed some more stringent restrictions than in the rest of the state. is it work places? multi-generational families? the beach? all along they have told us that it would get worse in the winter when people are inside, but the weather in SoCal is nicer now than during the summer/fall fires. are they saying it is the newer strain? I am confused.

Percolated through younger people in schools and elsewhere, hit the families at Thanksgiving, has been rapidly growing ever since and is now exponential.

It's been what we consider to be nippy at night. Outdoor parties in my neighborhood definitely move indoors by 10 pm. And they just slowed when this work week began. In 2-3 weeks it should be a bit better.

US coronavirus: More states report climbing Covid-19 numbers as CDC chief warns US Capitol riot was a likely 'surge event' - CNN

“Fauci: Second Covid-19 vaccine dose 'critical'
Receiving the second dose of the Moderna of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine is essential for optimal protection, Dr. Anthony Fauci said on Friday.
"The second dose is absolutely critical," he said. One dose of either vaccine, Fauci added, "has not been proven to be efficacious to the degree that we want, and we don't know how long the protection lasts."
"Whatever you're hearing, one dose of the Moderna and one dose of the Pfizer is not optimal," he said. "Optimal is one dose of Pfizer, followed in 21 days by the boost. Or one dose of Moderna followed in 28 days with a boost if you want optimal protection and optimal durability."“

Biden to speed release of coronavirus vaccines, ending practice of holding back shots for second dose
so this plan isn’t to give anyone one dose-instead of two - but only not hold back those second doses that are already made and in reserve? Are they producing enough that there will be second doses ready when needed?

Yes, you can still get infected with COVID-19 after being vaccinated. Here's why
thought this was a decent article. Have spoke with numerous folks who think the vax means you’re good to go. Back to normal

Ha imagine that. Sending out masks. Would have been a good idea back in March ;) Still probably a good idea

Not sure if this is the right thread to post this, I looked around and didn't see one about our own experiences. I'm a little nervous because I've been under the weather since Tuesday night when I woke up in the middle of the night with a bad headache and some congestion. In the last few days, I've had a low-grade fever (99.8 was the highest) and felt pretty achy, but other than a mild tickle in my throat, no other respiratory symptoms. Just tired. I don't think I have the virus, but I know that there are asymptomatic and mild cases, even though I've heard that even mild cases are pretty debilitating. Ordinarily I would just chalk it up to a cold or mild flu but obviously as others have expressed it's difficult to be nonchalant about this. I live by myself and have the option to work remotely which I've been doing since I started not feeling well, and I definitely don't want to see my mother and expose her just in case. I'm thinking I may just go get a test for peace of mind, But I'm not sure if I'd even qualify for one given the mildness of my symptoms. I'm in the Pittsburgh PA area FYI if anyone has any insights on testing here.

Imo isolate and test :) unless they don’t want you to come in for some reason. Do you have state run testing sites ? I’ve heard of people also using urgent care? For testing. That surprised me honestly.

You’re symptoms sound like they could be covid ish to me from what I know MOO

Lack of respiratory symptoms is irrelevant IMO

also mild cases are often just that. Mild

sense of taste /smell ok? (But doesn’t that usually happen fairly early on? Not sure)

I have no insight for you, as I'm not in your area. But I do think if you even question whether or not you should test, then test. We're all here for you, hoping it's a routine winter bug and not COVID. keep us posted please.
There is another thread for those with, maybe with, COVID. Not certain how to link it here, but I'll look and try.
