“There are no beds”: One ambulance ride leads to another for non-COVID patients — Kaiser Health News

“She panicked when a nurse told her that no beds were available and that she would have to be transferred — possibly more than 450 miles away to Denver. She had heard a rumor about a dialysis patient who died waiting for a bed at a hospital in Wichita, about an hour down the road.”

Wow! Our stories are literally from two places about 30 miles apart. I swear the Keely in your story looks familiar, but who knows. This is my neck of the woods.

What would have happened to that poor girl if she'd had to foot the bill for a transfer to Denver? Ridiculous. I'm glad Salina took her -- they took an acquaintance of mine a couple of months ago when she had a heart attack and the local hospital was full. To be honest, the local hospital isn't the place you want to go to get the best care.

Kansas has a lot of issues with handling covid, this is just one more.

COVID-19: Richard Branson's 'fearless' mother Eve dies after contracting virus

Richard Branson's mother has died at the age of 96 after contracting COVID-19, the entrepreneur has confirmed.

Announcing her death in a heartfelt post, Mr Branson said his mother Eve had managed to "fight off the virus, but had expended all of her energy in the process".

The billionaire businessman said that rather than mourn her loss, he wanted to "celebrate her wonderful life, her tremendous spirit, the joy she brought to so many, and the love she gave us all".

Unless testing is truly free, we're going to continue to see people avoid it. My daughter's friend worked at a grocery store and their policy was that any employee with a live-in family member who is diagnosed with Covid must test negative in order to continue working. Since her live-in boyfriend tested positive (with symptoms), this young lady went to be tested as well--as per her employer's rules. She was told that since she is not having symptoms, the test would run $150. She has no insurance and she had no money to pay for the test herself. She had to leave without being tested. She chose to hide her boyfriend's diagnosis and go back to work. Someone found out and she was fired. She's currently looking for a different job. I found this and I suppose this is why she couldn't have a free test -- she had no symptoms.

Seriously, if we want to get a handle on this, testing has to be free. For everyone.

Covid Testing in Mac county -- what will it cost?
Wow. I hope she finds a place to work quickly - one that offers health insurance too.
I have a friend who went to stay with a family member for 10 days because her roommate tested positive and her work had the same stipulations. She sent this.

These numbers are frightening but we have to remember why we are having this horrific surge? I am sure many of these people travelled and had family gatherings around the holidays. It is sad that a lot of these people spread the virus to loved ones.

True, I know we all wondered if this would happen, so it's not a surprise, but it's sad all the same.

Has anyone seen any info about cleaning/sanitizing of the chambers prior to the resumption of the hearing on Wednesday night? I saw a wide range of unmasked people, from (probably) across the country pawing over documents and breathing all over everything. Who knows if some of these rioters were positive, knew it, and tried to spread their droplets willy-nilly?

(Hi, this is Magz. I can’t get to the phone right now because I’m having a freaking MELTDOWN. But if you leave your name and number, I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.)

If these people would have adhered to the restrictions, I am guessing most of them would not be sick with the virus. While it is sad when people die, it is sadder when people don't do the right thing, get the virus and spread it to others---

Gorillas contract coronavirus at San Diego Zoo Safari Park

The zoo tested the gorillas’ fecal samples after two of them began coughing Wednesday, the zoo said in a news release. Preliminary results returned Friday showed the animals had tested positive, and U.S. Department of Agriculture laboratories confirmed the results Monday, the zoo said.”

'We Don't Feel Forgotten At All': Alaska Fires Up COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout :)

A fleet of chartered plans has airlifted vials to villages. A water taxi drove doses through choppy seas. And in a nod to the Serum Run that delivered lifesaving diphtheria treatment to Nome a century ago, some of the clinicians giving shots in rural Alaska were even shuttled around villages on sleds pulled behind snow machines.

Those efforts have helped give Alaska one of the highest vaccination rates in the country with rural and Indigenous residents getting access to shots at levels that meet or even exceed those in Alaska's cities. Public health experts say that's appropriate because of tribes' federally recognized sovereignty and because COVID-19 has hit rural areas and Alaska Native people especially hard.

I received the Pfizer vaccine.
This is interesting. I asked a nurse friend today who got her second round and said she had zero side effects which one she got and she said Pfizer.

I wish we could know why some people are prone to this.

  • Arizona is experiencing the fastest spread transmission in the nation
  • New cases are being diagnosed at a rate of 780 cases per 100,000 residents, which is increasing by 220 cases per 100,000 residents per week
  • The state is reporting more than 700 COVID-19 deaths per week and more than 100 COVID-19 deaths per day
"While Arizonans' poor individual decisions are undoubtedly contributing to viral spread, [Gov. Ducey's] inaction in the face of a clear and present danger is of greater concern"
