“There are no beds”: One ambulance ride leads to another for non-COVID patients — Kaiser Health News
“She panicked when a nurse told her that no beds were available and that she would have to be transferred — possibly more than 450 miles away to Denver. She had heard a rumor about a dialysis patient who died waiting for a bed at a hospital in Wichita, about an hour down the road.”
Wow! Our stories are literally from two places about 30 miles apart. I swear the Keely in your story looks familiar, but who knows. This is my neck of the woods.
What would have happened to that poor girl if she'd had to foot the bill for a transfer to Denver? Ridiculous. I'm glad Salina took her -- they took an acquaintance of mine a couple of months ago when she had a heart attack and the local hospital was full. To be honest, the local hospital isn't the place you want to go to get the best care.
Kansas has a lot of issues with handling covid, this is just one more.
