Rep. Brian Turner, a Democrat from Asheville, announced he tested positive for COVID-19 Monday. And on Tuesday morning, Sen. Bill Rabon, a Republican from Winnabow, said he also tested positive.

Rep. Jason Saine, a Republican from Lincolnton, confirmed both Turner and Rabon were on a duck hunting trip over the weekend with other lawmakers including himself. Other Republicans on the trip included Sen. Jim Perry of Kinston, Rep. John Bell of Goldsboro, Rep. Bobby Hanig of Powells Point.”

“State Sen. Natasha Marcus, a Democrat from Davidson, tested positive for COVID-19, she said in a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon.

“I have not been to work in person since January 13th, have not attended social gatherings, and have limited trips outside my home to just a couple trips a week for essential needs,” Marcus said in the post. “I hope that I’ve avoided spreading it to anyone else and that this news serves as a reminder to be extra careful in our efforts to combat this contagious virus.”

NC sees highest number of reported COVID deaths in a day since the pandemic began — News & Observer

“North Carolina reported 169 COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday, the highest single day total since the pandemic began.

The previous high of reported deaths in a day was on Dec. 30.

January was the deadliest month of the pandemic as DHHS reported 2,587 deaths across the state.

As of Wednesday, 9,578 North Carolinians have died due to the virus.”

Guess state legislators don’t read, don’t care, don’t believe, etc.

I don't want to keep banging on about this. But I hate to see misinformation believed and create wrong impressions. It is not good for all the innocents who live all over the world who may experience backlash due to misinformation.

I am well aware of China's poor humanitarian record, and other detrimental things. But the 'created in a lab' thing just isn't so, according to top independent scientists.

some states have traditionally had off from school for the beginning of hunting season (deer, do not know about ducks)- PA and MI come to mind but I do not know all of them. I know that most people get their food from another source these days, but you might be surprised.... would think that hunting is one activity during which you could socially distance .... IMHO

Unfortunately, I think at that point, we just let the ones who refuse to get vaccinated take their chances with covid. As long as our healthcare system can handle the positive cases that need care, what else can we really do? Once we have done what we can to protect ourselves and our loved ones with the vaccine, if others choose not to vaccinate and end up getting very sick or dying, that’s on them. We all make choices about what risks we are willing to take.

problem with this is that those people can provide a "place" for the vaccine to mutate and still be a danger to both the vaccinated and the vulnerable who cannot respond to vaccines. This is why we need a world response too.... If 10 wealthy nations eradicate COVID and one poorer more remote nation does nothing, we can all sink.

Rabon was sick on Monday and got a test.
Rabon was present for the opening day of the legislature session on Wednesday.
He got a positive test result on Tuesday morning.

my idle speculation is that they did not infect each other while actually hunting. my bet is that they traveled together in a vehicle, or were eating and drinking together, IMH idle speculation.
crazy that he went to work sick but this is what all the people who do not take COVID seriously do- so does the whole NC legislature have to quarantine now?
