Just read a headline in the Boston Globe that there are massive crowds in Tampa-- Oy Vay- the Super Bowl is going to cause another resurgence after cases were going down. Lots of those people at the Super Bowl are going back to their home states to spread the virus all over the country. I don't think enough people are vaccinated to reduce the danger.

My daughter reassured me that card board cut outs a spaced between people for social distancing. I was freaking out!

The problem isn't at the stadium: it is all the people out there on the streets (massive crowds) and in bars and restaurants- no doubt maskless, no social distancing. Bet on it.

This is a photo of people celebrating pre-superbowl in Ybor City district, in Tampa .... I see 3 masks, with just one being worn correctly.

In the early hours of Febuary 2, nine-year-old Makenzie Gongora died unexpectedly after being tucked into bed by her mother, Kristle Gongora.

Her distraught family in the US state of Texas say she died three days after testing positive for COVID-19.

Both aunts shared that later in the afternoon on the day Makenzie died, her family got COVID-19 tests administered, and her dad and 8-year-old sister’s tests came back positive.

It used to feel good being “essential”, and I took pride in my work during the first lockdown, as scary as it was to be out driving. But this lockdown feels a lot more selfish, less caring of others.

I’ve had many times when I’ve literally been sobbing in my cab, and not one person has ever asked me if I was OK. Passengers barely treat us like human beings, with thoughts and feelings. We get daily abuse because we are restricting the passenger numbers on the buses for social distancing.

More and more drivers are now testing positive, and the fear is even greater as people take more risks with our health.

I’ve worked in hospitality for several years, including restaurants where you serve alcohol, but this is much worse than I’ve seen it before. It’s like dealing with drunk people all the time. Recently I had to contact the police when a customer spat at the window and threatened to beat me up. I’d asked him if he had a mask, and he told me it was all a hoax.
They’d just announced that the number of daily cases was at a record high, and I asked him not to say that and told him it was real.

********************
It’s heaving at work. People don’t want to wear their masks, and it’s not enforced. Last week I was told that staff on the door had been told not to push it with customers. You’re supposed to shop alone unless you’re with a carer or a child, but I saw six people carrying one grey bin. The customers act like it’s our fault that all this has happened. It’s really hostile, and lots of co-workers are very depressed.

One or two people packed in at the Superbowl, isn't there? We are seeing footage on our morning TV. A mixture of masked and unmasked people in the huge crowd, from what I can see. No socially distanced seating. Is there not a pandemic raging in the US?

What you may not have realized also is that there were many many cardboard cutout posters of people in the stands. 30,000 of them! Folks could purchase for a portion going to charity by sending a picture to the NFL.

There were only 22,000 fans - and 7,500 of them were post vaccinated health care workers. The cardboard cut outs ensured that ticket holders were seated specifically to provide physical distance between pods of fans & vaccinated health care workers.

Here is just one site that shows.

Yup, There Are Celeb Cardboard Cutouts At The Super Bowl This Year Because Of The Pandemic

Super Bowl Crowd Includes 30,000 Cardboard Cutouts

The Super Bowl will have 30,000 cardboard fans to help the game look full and keep real fans socially distant

Yes, thank you. I saw that later.

I also read that it is the maskless street parties and other gatherings that are causing the medical experts their great concern.

While I love the super bowl, as I was watching the celebration on the field, I was cringing. hugging, no masks, and those were only the players: the crowds were massive on the streets in Tampa and I am sure the bars and restaurants were full of unmasked screaming people hugging each other--- and then think of all the private superbowl parties--- In approx 2 weeks we will see the result of this madness.

Her death is so sad-- especially because it was so unexpected. You wonder if she should have been hospitalized but her symptoms seemed so mild.

Relatives of San Antonio girl who suspect she died of COVID-19 warn other parents to be vigilant

She got it at day care?

“The couple also have a younger daughter named Sophia. She and Nathan also tested positive for the virus, and the family is grieving while quarantined, which will delay the funeral. Nobody can comfort the family in person in the meantime amid the restrictions. Kristle, who had been vaccinated because she works with vulnerable patients, tested negative.”

:( Prayers for this family.

I haven't read that she got it at daycare ... just that she came home early from an afterschool program, feeling ill. Presumably she would have contracted the virus a few days prior to that.

Makenzie Gongora came home early from an after-school program Jan. 29 complaining of a headache and mild fever. She was tested for strep throat, flu and COVID-19 later that day.
After the 2018-2019 school year, the Gongora family moved back to Texas, where both children attended Evelyn Scarborough Elementary School in San Antonio.

Makenzie died on her father's birthday, and her mother's birthday was Friday.

I am not so sure about that. After all, they celebrated "Chinese New Year" in San Francisco, a few weeks after Mardi Gras.

It wasn't until St. Patrick's Day, that people in the United States really got the "memo" to end all parties. That is when cities canceled normal St. Patrick's Day parties.

I don't think that Trump knew how serious Covid was in the February, he even went to India, last week of February.

"President Trump twice received intelligence briefings on the coronavirus in January, a White House official tells NPR. The briefings were on Jan. 23 and Jan. 28."

The Australian 60 Minutes has great segments.... including interviews with knowledgeable Chinese and Australian scientists who know the person-to-person spread was kept under wraps when Chinese New Year sent people travelling to all parts of the country......
It is amazing what might have been avoided....

love this! That slide was built for Florida....

Trust me, this slide was also built for Michigan. My husband got his two shots but I have had no luck: I am registered at several different hospital web sites and the dept of health in my county--- it is absurd---

Man accused of ripping mirror off side of MBTA bus when asked to wear a mask

More at link
Required mask-wearing in public is nothing new in Massachusetts during the pandemic, yet at 59-year-old man was angry enough to damage an MBTA bus after he was asked to wear one, authorities said.

A 59-year-old man, who police didn’t publicly identify, ripped off the mirror on the side of an MBTA bus serving Brookline and Cambridge on Sunday after he was asked to wear a mask, authorities said.

The bus was operating on Route 66, police said. All passengers and employees must wear masks, according to MBTA COVID protocols. Like guidelines in the state, the requirements of masks on MBTA vehicles is nothing new.

The man, police said, will be summoned for malicious destruction of property.

‘It’s not safe or smart. It’s stupid.’ Tampa mayor slams maskless Super Bowl celebrations

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — So much for the mayor’s order requiring masks at Super Bowl parties. Throngs of mostly maskless fans took to the streets and packed sports bars as the clock inside Raymond James Stadium ticked down on a hometown Super Bowl win for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“It is a little frustrating because we have worked so hard,” Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said during a Monday morning news conference with the Super Bowl Host Committee. “At this point in dealing with COVID-19, there is a level of frustration when you see that.”
