Girl, thank God you lived.

eta: and hubby was good too. :)

We sure do! We feel very fortunate, considering that so many weren’t. It’s an evil bug!

@Lilibet :I still want to know your thoughts on surface transmission.

I have several questions for dr. O, in progress

I’d love to know what Dr O has to say about surface transmission! We’ve eased up on wiping down our Instacart groceries and other items like mail after having Covid and the monoclonal antibodies. I hope we’re not taking a huge risk. Of course, we still wash our hands after handling those things.

I discussed with our doctor his thoughts on how we got it after being SO careful. I assumed it was surface transmission from a rare trip to a store by my dh. I figured I touched something he brought from the store that we forgot to wipe, came down with it first and gave it to my husband. Our doctor said it was more likely airborne and that he got it first asymptomatically, gave it to me and then developed symptoms a few days later. He could be right, since surface transmission is more rare, but the airborne route theory just seems awfully circuitous to me. We’ll never know.

(Having some tech diffs on my device, so dbm’d. Will pick back up when tech issues resolved, yes surface transmission, I also want to ask him what he thinks about the effect of the new variants on MIS-C, etc. @Lilibet

THANK YOU @margarita25 for your message! I certainly do trust your opinion and have since my first day on this thread back in February 2020. I listened to the first 40 minutes of Dr O so far and IMO he is spot on. Even though I have a degree of immunity from my encounter with Covid in late January (plus a monoclonal antibody infusion), and will receive my vaccination starting May 3, there is no way I will consider that “permission” to slack off. Dr O has confirmed my instincts, as has Dr Walensky. The variants are coming and they aren’t going to cut us any slack just because we want our “normal” life back again. Keep beating that drum dear friend!

Respectfully snipped for focus...

So my heartfelt message to all of you is do not let pandemic fatigue get you, do not get complacent or comfortable. There’s a BIG STORM on our doorstep.

I agree. I'm afraid many are getting the wrong message as the vaccine rolls out. The message they're getting is It's here, we're safe! And, many are acting as they did before the pandemic.

States are opening up, and I'm afraid the local county commission is going to waive the county mask mandate on Monday morning. A local Facebook group is encouraging members to email the commissioners and tell them to lift the mandate. I'm sure elected leaders everywhere are feeling the same pressure.

Kansas started out slow in vaccinating but now, we're at 43% vaccinated and anyone over 16 is eligible now.

With the variants just around the corner, everyone needs to get vaccinated if they haven't already, and everyone needs to take extra precautions.

For those still looking to get a shot -- use the CDC Vaccine Finder. You can select the type of shot and enter your zip code to see what's available near you.

A few stats on vaccinations so far.

UK has 47% of its population vaccinated with at least one dose
US 30% at least one dose
Canada 14% at least one dose
France 13% at least one dose
Ireland 12% at least one dose
Italy 12% at least one dose
Germany 12% at least one dose
South Korea 1.8% at least one dose
Japan 0.7% at least one dose

Australia and NZ are negligible - not even on the % chart yet.
Israel is kicking butt - 66% have had at least one dose.

*sigh*
this is still just such a frustrating process in my area. I’m practically in tears wondering how I’m going to be able get my household family members vaxxed when they become eligible. I’ve put them at risk all year due to work. And now this ridiculous jumping through hoops.
:(:mad::confused:
fwiw i just now had an open appt slot for DH at cvs (after trying all week) but they didn’t have a second shot appointment available so I couldn’t continue the scheduling process.

Do they only allow appointment bookings for a limited time period? Say, for the next month or whatever. Or do they have months and months of appointments?

(I can't get onto the CDC Vaccine Finder site to look, says it is unavailable. Maybe because I am not in the US.)

I think yes they only schedule for a limited time. I assumed the shot one appt would automatically get me an appt for shot two. (Which I also assumed would be booked at the time of receiving shot one). Ugh.
Im trying to track down when our local larger (not state run-none close by) clinic adds their new appointments.

fwiw CVS seems to fri/sat 4am ish.
And midnight the rest of the week

Where I am, in Arizona, the state run vaccination sites seem to open up appointments in batches related to when they get more vaccines
(This is just what I think - it's very confusing and unpredictable)

What it reminds me of, is back in the day, radio stations having contests, and me rapidly and repeatedly dialing their number on a rotary phone to win the prize, only to hear that the contest was over and I never even got through

Ha I actually won tickets once on a dial in radio contest (Robert Plant and the Black Crowes concert 1990....that was quite a night) might have been the only thing I’ve actually ever won
Guess I should have saved up my luck for the pandemic thing 30 years later :D darn it

Eta I’ve been checking a vax finder /angel fb group for tips and tricks. Need to step away from the process for a bit as I’m getting a touch of anxiety from the whole thing.

Here’s a CNN article with tips for getting the vaccine:

Read these tips before getting your Covid-19 vaccine - CNN

While the supply of vaccine is increasing over time, demand still outstrips what's available in many places, especially densely populated areas. People in big cities have likened the attempt to get a vaccination appointment to trying to get tickets online to a concert of a really popular band. (Remember those days?) :D
Here are tips to help you get fully vaccinated -- and get your life back to something more normal than it probably has been for more than a year.

When I scheduled our vaccinations online Friday for May 3, the calendar showed green for most of April and May all day. But now I wonder if that actually indicates vaccine availability. I’m going to call and find out if the calendar openings match reality.

I made the appointment with the private medical system that serves several rural counties in Southern Oregon. At least three hospitals and most providers are in this system, so it’s almost a monopoly along with one other system. I wonder if they get large allotments because of size. But I would hate to find out the week before our appointment that “Oops, sorry. We ran out.” Then I’ll join @weepingangel in the anxiety zone.

Blast from the past! My dh (then boyfriend) had the knack for winning concert tickets from call-in radio shows. We went to quite a few in our broke student days. I was never able to get through the line, and I can still hear the busy signal.

It does feel the same trying to score an appointment, and that is a disappointment to me. I told myself I wouldn't get stressed about it and relaxed....and as soon as I did that, I managed to get an appointment.

The way I figured it, the batches of vaccines will keep coming and eventually everyone will get one. They won't run out, ykwim?
