Athletes to sleep on 'anti-sex' cardboard beds at Olympic Games

No sex for you! "Anti Sex Beds" made from cardboard, will only hold weight of ONE person, for sleeping only. This is to curtail any activity that may spread Covid.

(Of course, because they are only gonna bounce in the bed, just saying :p).

Some of that article is a hoot what they wrote. I might get a TO if I quote it lol.

And the video within the article, that Irish guy jumping on the bed saying "fake news" sounded like our friend Ben from Wuhan that we followed!

That seems to be the most prevalent reason around here followed by “alien DNA”.

US military flies COVID-19 vaccine to NT

The US military has flown its own COVID-19 vaccine supply into the Northern Territory to inoculate Marines based in Darwin.

About 2200 servicemen and women are in the Top End as part of the annual Marine Rotational Force.

They've started receiving their first doses of the Moderna vaccine, which are being administered by US Navy medical officers.

The vaccine is offered under the US's emergency use authorisation to armed forces members who choose to receive it.

Many were already vaccinated before arriving in Australia as part of the US's ongoing vaccine rollout, which has fully inoculated about 49 per cent of the US's 328 million-strong population.

"We have received and administered these vaccines in an effort to fight against COVID-19," a Marine spokesman told AAP.

"(This will) protect the community in which we live and work, as well as our forces here in the Top End."

Only if you are both registered. I would recommend the Michelson animal foundation, at www.foundanimals.org
Please make sure that y'all are spay/neutered and up to date on vaccines too ;);)

I haven't read the fine details, but a US friend (who lives near the border) was telling me that in addition to being fully vaccinated, they need to file electronically in advance of arrival at the border, then have to prove that they are covid negative by getting a test before travel - and are also subject to random covid testing while in Canada.

My friend feels that this will stop the spontaneous border travel, where day trippers pop over to Canada for a meal or to visit a casino/tourist attractions/outlet malls.

More than one million doses of the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine donated by the government of the United States arrived in Vientiane late Friday evening (July 16).

The vaccines were donated through the COVAX Facility

The 1,008,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine will be used by the Laos government to provide protection against the Coronavirus to more than one million people, representing about 14 percent of the total population, as it only requires only a single dose.

That really doesn't seem true to me. Perhaps one in five believes some kind of government conspiracy, but microchips? Nah, I'm not buying it. Is the source credible?

The microchip thing sounds farfetched to me, too.

The excuses I've (personally) heard, include:

  • A young woman who has been having trouble conceiving worrying that it might further mess up her chances to get pregnant.
  • A middle-age man whose mother did after her second Moderna shot.
  • A 30-something male who says he is so healthy, he's not worried about catching covid.
  • A middle-age female who said the pharmaceutical companies are all just trying to get rich.
  • A homeschooling mother of five who's very religious and one of the reasons she homeschools is because she's never wanted her kids to have school-required vaccines. Her oldest daughter (probably 15 years old now) is very special needs, and the mother blames her daughter's problems on baby vaccinations.
I'm trying to think if I've heard anything else. I think that's it.

I've never heard the microchip thing -- but my daughter trains GSDs for police work and she microchips them. Those are HUGE needles--they have to be in order to get the chip under the dog's skin.

My vaccine needle was tiny thin. No microchip could pass through there.

Good! My experience with JJ was very good and I hope they fare as well!

I think these in-need countries are extremely grateful for what they receive.

"The Minister of Health, Dr Bounfeng Phoummalaysith, the US Ambassador to Laos, Dr Peter M Haymond, and other officials and partners welcomed the arrival of the vaccines at the airport."

Rubbish I have heard - by a US friend's adult son - is that his father can't come near him now because his father has had his first dose and will be shedding the virus all over the place.

I've read that one. I think that misconception goes way back to the idea that vaccines use live viruses that actually give the person the illness.

Maybe we need to start addressing this misconceptions in school-age kids so they don't believe those things as adults.

I'm expecting my town to go into lockdown soon. A truck driver who was positive infected someone in a nearby town.
They also visited my town. I guess we just wait and see.

A good thing is today I went for a walk down the street into the CBD area to check my PO Box , and I didn't see one person not wearing a mask.

I think the seriousness is starting to get through to people here.

My whole state went into lockdown 2 hours ago. For 7 days (so far). We can go 2.5km from home for outside exercise (only with people from your own household, or alone). Other than that, stay at home.

We have 5 community cases, and too many contact places. The thing that spurred the lockdown is that the 5th case caught the virus in a restaurant that is one of the contact places, and is not a close contact of the other 4 cases.

It is Delta. Our Premier is going hard and fast.

2.5km is pretty good for going for a walk, or even running, if you don't have to wear a mask. Living in the country has its advantages during lockdowns. We have a rails-to-trails path nearby and my sister and I could go for long bike rides and not run into another person.

I did find it difficult to walk briskly or run with a mask on, though. I just couldn't get enough air, but masks weren't necessary when we were out on the path. I still use the path even though we've opened up considerably. In fact, later this morning, I'll probably ride my bike to a little spot where I can use my cell phone as a hot spot and work on my laptop. The deck sits over the curve of a river and it's an amazing view.

I have every confidence that you guys are on top of this. You don't seem to have the people who are objecting based on questionable information.

Best of luck to you! You strike me as the resourceful type, and I'm sure you'll find ways to enjoy this phase! There's always a silver lining!

Opinion piece .....

Why 'freedom day' is the latest example of COVID propaganda

First, appeal to the instincts rather than the reason of the audience, and second, build around a slogan. Then repeat, repeat, repeat.

“freedom day” could be compared to VE Day (Victory in Europe Day, May 8 1945) and ought to be regarded as the latest in a long line of rhetorical associations with the second world war that have been encouraged over the last 16 months.

Concepts like “freedom” and “liberty” have been invoked by propagandists since the 16th-century Protestant Reformation and subsequent Enlightenment period.

To this end, the popular use of “freedom” to describe the end of pandemic restrictions forms part of a populist audience seduction strategy, using emotional rather than rational rhetoric.

“Freedom day” has been so-called because the powerful want us to think in certain ways about this day, and to exclude or overlook other aspects of the pandemic that it deems undesirable.

Calling it “freedom day” attempts to nullify the public by encouraging us not to scrutinise government and media performance as we should. It reflects an attempt to move the discussion from science, sociology and public health to patriotism and emancipation.

What is he going to call subsequent lockdown days?
