Get a COVID-19 jab in Moscow and you could leave with a lot more than a sore arm - the city is giving away five cars a week in a prize draw for residents who get vaccinated.

Londoners who get inoculated could win tickets to the final of The Euro 2020 soccer Championship

... residents of California are in with a chance of scooping a $1.5 million lottery jackpot

In a Philippine town, the mayor is planning a cow raffle as an incentive, while another community has been raffling off huge sacks of rice

Mexican vaccination centres are instead laying on entertainment in the hope of making it fun to get a jab.

... free beer in Israel

... complimentary dessert in Malaysia

Hong Kong, a property developer is raffling off a $1.4 million apartment for people who have been vaccinated.

Washington State has allowed retailers to offer a free marijuana joint when they get a shot in ‘joints for jabs’ promotions.

Cash, cars, and other vaccine incentives around the world

Honestly, I don’t see why people should be incentivised to get the jab. The reward, already, is a lesser chance of dying from Covid and it should be enough.

It wouldn't surprise me if the CDC does an abrupt "about face" and once again recommends a mask up policy in a month or so.
Fully vaccinated and just returned all my masks to purse and car after seeing variant numbers climb, will mask in grocery stores again and around others as local agitators, covid deniers and antivaxxers blame our governor and willfully disregard science!

I’m seeing no signs of a reversal in my area. In fact, there’s a large group of parents circulating a petition to drop masking requirements altogether in schools this Sept. That's right, all schools. Not just high school or middle school where, potentially, some students are old enough to have received their vaccines. We are talking elementary schools as well, where no kids are protected. You know why? Because “kids don’t get Covid and if they do, it isn’t serious.” Yes, the old chant from April 2020 is still alive and well. It’s terrifying to think that this could become a reality. I see politicians and school board members alike caving as elections approach. It’s a crazy insane carousel and I want to get off.

Greece, Turkey in Diplomatic Spat Over Galatasaray Covid Tests
https://greekreporter.com/2021/07/13/greece-turkey-diplomatic-spat-galatasaray-covid-tests/

Greece’s Civil Protection Minister Nikos Hardalias said Tuesday’s friendly match was not taking place in the context of an international event with an approved entry protocol, so all those arriving were subject to random PCR tests or rapid testing.

He said in a statement that the Turkish team refused to undergo rapid tests which were in accordance with Greek legislation.

“Given their refusal, the members of the mission were not allowed to enter our country, by my order,” he said.

DH and I registered for this: MI Shot To Win

The lottery was initiated to encourage unvaccinated people to get their shots. The deadline for registration for "MI Shot to Win" is July 30, and anyone who has had their first dose of the vaccine by then is eligible. I think that anyone who wanted to get vaccinated has already done so, and those who haven't gotten their shot/s aren't planning to do so. I haven't heard or read reports about folks rushing out to get vaccinated just so they can participate in the lottery.

When our Governor in Ohio initiated the vaccine lottery here, there was an immediate rush to get vaccinated by people who had been sitting on the fence with regard to the vaccine. The lottery proved to be a useful incentive. In addition, the vaccine lottery garnered tons of positive publicity which was good for the marketing of the vaccine. So his administration was pleased with the results. They never expected the rush to get vaccinated to be long term, but it made a huge difference.

I think the incentives are really for the rest of us who are already vaccinated--maybe to keep so many from becoming infected and triggering a new and deadlier variant.

At least that's what I keep wondering.

But, all in all, I like the incentives because it moves the idea of vaccinating into a more positive place. Some people I've seen interviewed on the news were actually scared to get the shot.

I can almost picture a teenager coming home with one of those "five cars a week" in Russia and when his parents see that the vaccine didn't make him ill, they go down and get their own.

I'm just for anything that encourages people to get the shot.

It's hard to imagine that some are more fearful of getting the shot than they are of getting the virus. imo.

I've noticed yesterday that the US numbers seemed very low on Worldometers, and the majority of states didn't have any stats recorded. Not sure what's going on

You can flick between yesterday and today numbers here:
United States COVID: 34,753,803 Cases and 622,966 Deaths - Worldometer

Worldometer is who I've been following all this time. I had no idea they weren't that accurate as SouthAussie mentioned above. I've also been following coronavirus.smartnews.com for the same time to follow my state and counties numbers. But I'd noticed what seemed like a lot of gaps in info recently where states weren't listing cases. And on the smartnews site we keep having days where no county in my state updates numbers. Then we get numbers the next day. I'm guessing it's two days worth? It makes it hard to follow the trends. But the daily average is definitely going up here in GA.

People out there believe the most insane things about the vaccine. They think it will make them really ill. They think being near others vaccinated will or is making them ill. My father sent out some embarrassing mass email yesterday to all our family with a stupid video claiming this. :/ These liars spreading all this disinformation about the vaccine are just guilty of murdering all the people who die because they believe their lies imo.

My father has seen most of our family get vaccinated with no repercussions including my husband's extended family up to age 96. It means nothing because he believes the lies first.

I saw someone online posting that he was told he could not come to a family gathering because he's vaccinated. People have absolutely insane ideas they hold on to for whatever reason and just defy all logic and reason. They see all this people around them vaccinated and doing fine. But if this person is in the same room with them personally and they have any symptoms of illness they blame it on the vaccinated person.

And then they believe memes and lies online basically claiming VAERS says thousands of people have died. BUT they ignore the ones who died of covid. I keep thinking I need to go ahead and buy burial plots for my sick parents in their 70's who won't get vaccinated and keep pretending like they can't die...

Unfortunately, those who are “fearful of getting the shot” often believe the fake “scientific” scare stories <modsnip> posted by strangers in FB comments more than they trust real scientists, doctors or the government. Every vaccine story on my local news FB pages is inundated with these comments. They drown out anyone who has a grasp on reality and they deny that statistics regarding Covid deaths and vaccines are true. They believe it’s all a big conspiracy by the government to control them. In my 75 years, I’ve never seen anything like this on this scale!

I'll tell ya what. About 5 days after my 2nd Pfizer jab, I developed a new improved, really annoying arrhythmia. A cousin in law is having similar issues after his. Kinda makes you wonder. JMO

Did your cardiologist order tests to see what’s going on? Or did you wear a heart monitor for a while?
My cousin just had the ablation for his tachycardia after getting his jabs in March.

Yeah. I just dropped off my Holter monitor yesterday.

Is your cousin's tachycardia new? Did it get worse after his jabs?

Spoke to my mum today. After our week's holiday to the coast, they are feeling inspired to do more so have booked another week away (in England) with my aunt and uncle. She was anxious I wouldnt approve.

We think cases are set to rocket again here after the grand "re-opening" next Monday. But they are heading into late 70s with health issues and dont want to spend another year locked away. I said I was very glad for them and happy they were getting some life back.

(fast forward to autumn and I'll be worrying like mad about them!)

No, he’s had it for several years and had increased since last November so he had the ablation done in April about two weeks after his second Moderna jab. He’s doing good now!

'We have rights': the French health workers furious about COVID vaccine order — Reuters

“Nursing home worker Sandra Barona is so vehemently against receiving a COVID-19 shot that she said she may quit her job after French President Emmanuel Macron ordered all health workers to get vaccinated.

Barona, who looks after elderly residents in a care home southwest of Paris, expressed scant faith in vaccines she felt had been developed too hastily, even though regulators around the world have repeatedly said speed will not compromise safety. But she said she took particular umbrage at having her individual freedoms trampled over.

“I’m prepared to resign and choose another path rather than get vaccinated,” Barona, 45, said, though she acknowledged she may choose to receive a COVID-19 shot if it became the only way to see her family abroad.”

Hopefully all of the elderly residents in her care are vaccinated.

The numbers for the 11th and 12th were nowhere close to the steep rise on the 10th, but it seems today is similar to the 10th:
