Delta is one mean variant. It has already caused two deaths here.

Sydney is in a two week lockdown, which has been extended to another two weeks - and will likely go even longer as they want to know where every case is and contain them.
Income support has restarted in Sydney, to help keep people at home.

Overnight, Melbourne has brought back a mask mandate, and is seriously considering a snap 3-day lockdown. Masks to be worn in every indoor space.

My state is on knife's edge. Closed borders, and covid checking all incoming essential services.

I agree SouthAussie. It does filter down from the top. I'm waaaaay past people in public roles (primarily politicians) behaving badly. Behaving like a schoolyard bully is on my last nerve.

We have more cases in a state then your whole country, and yet we are acting as if covid was over, while you guys are locking everything down.
Go figure.

For the second day in a row, my rural county has the most cases of any county in Oregon (48 and 29), including the Portland metro counties. Statewide, hospitalizations and ICU patient counts are up both days. The state opened up completely on June 30, so two weeks later, here we are. Who on earth could have predicted it?! /s

Oregon reports 340 new confirmed and presumptive COVID-19 cases, 3 new deaths

Oregon reports 251 new confirmed and presumptive COVID-19 cases, 3 new deaths
I feel like answering your rhetorical question: We all predicted the current disaster when the CDC recklessly advised us to ditch the masks.

Here in LA County, New cases, Positivity rate are way up, Deaths and Hospitalizations are inching up. The only thing that's down is..wait for it..Testing.

It wasn't very hard to predict. Every time precautions are removed, covid cases go up. We also had UK as a shining example of what to expect with delta spreading. UK is a decently vaccinated country, which didn't stop their covid cases from sky rocketing. That said, what exactly did CDC think was going to happen?

Reading this past Sunday's local newspaper, came across the obit of an ex-boyfriend of mine. He was only 58. A Virginia Beach police officer, died of Covid on the fourth of July.
According to Facebook posts he was unvaccinated due to his political beliefs!! SMH
His present girlfriend was also hospitalized with Covid, she is an oncology nurse of all things, unvaxxed! She was released two days before he passed away.
Such preventable circumstances!
Btw, they both had the Delta varient.

The CDC needs to do the right thing. Admit their mistake, tell everyone to mask up, and save lives from Long Covid, death and preventable sufferings. I think the CDC will eventually change their stance on unmasking the vaccinated, hopefully realize unvaccinated also embrace unmasking, and stop giving them free pass to spread the dangerous virus to others as they please.

Maybe in a week or two? Need to be done yesterday.

Exactly! Totally predicable. Thank you both for adding confirmation to my sarcastic question (Who on earth could have predicted it?! /s ). Apparently, the CDC assumed that rewarding desired behavior (vaccination) by waiving the mask requirement would send everyone running to get their shots. Ha!

March 29–We went from the CDC’S Walensky expressing a feeling of “impending doom”…
CDC Director Fears 'Impending Doom' If U.S. Opens Too Quickly

To May 13—lifting the mask guidance and defending this decision.
https://www.cnbc.com/2021/05/16/cdc-director-defends-lifting-mask-guidance-for-vaccinated.html

I realize Walensky is in a tough spot. She either indicates that she trusts the American people to do the right thing or she shows she doesn’t trust them. She chose trust. But now her feeling of “impending doom” is being fulfilled because apparently no one at the CDC realized that so many would rather risk sickness and death in order to “own” Dr Fauci et al and prove their loyalty to anti-science promoters. Unfortunately, the CDC has likely squandered its opportunity to re-build trust among citizens who are interested in public health.

One of my former close friends contacted me today. She’s anti-mask, doesn’t believe Covid is a big deal (even though she lost a relative to it a year ago). She has Covid. And today, one of my sister’s co-workers got sent home with Covid. None of them mask at work. This is great. Just friggin great.

I read somewhere (or heard it) that even when these people are on ventilators and really sick with Covid, many of them actually deny it is Covid--How did we get here???- it is absolute madness!

I saw yesterday on NBC Nighly News that TEN children were on life support in Mississippi.

10 children on life support in Mississippi as Delta variant cases surge | WBTW
Mississippi Official Apologizes for Overstating Number of Kids With COVID on Life Support

A tweet Dobbs posted earlier Tuesday, which has since been deleted, said 12 children in Mississippi were receiving treatment for their COVID-19 infections in hospital intensive care units, with 10 of those children on ventilators. Dobbs later posted an update saying seven children were in the ICU with two on ventilators.

The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) told Newsweek the updated numbers were correct as of July 13. All seven children were between the ages of 17 and under 1 year old, the department added.

Would be nice to have more details, ie how old are the 7 kids, considering kids under 12 are not even eligible to receive a vax. imo.

Sorry to say but seeing how Delta has swept the U.K. and quadrupled our cases within a month, I am not sure that other countries (where it’s already spreading) can contain it.

I currently know around a dozen adults and a few kids with Covid. Most adults are double jabbed, some have only had one. Even split between Pfizer and AZ. Two unvaccinated (medical reasons) are very ill, one in hospital. Feels VERY close here.

We were averaging less than 10 deaths a day not so long ago, but today 49 died, yesterday 50. Delta is not to be underestimated, at all.

Can you share the overall numbers for vaccinated vs. unvaccinated. Is it pretty easy to get the vaccine? Who doesn't?

And you are stating these cases are of VACCINATED peoples??

Thats rather scary, isn't it?

Can you travel to other EU countries now?

It is pretty disturbing that in the last week in Mississippi .... "there have been 379 children under the age of 18 who tested positive for COVID-19".

And .... "He tweeted 7% of deaths are people who are vaccinated. "

It seems to me that if that many vaccinated people are dying, they must be getting inundated with pretty high loads of the virus. Perhaps due to so much covid being around them.

In comparison, surreal here in Florida......... soooo little broadcast news on what is going on, but the numbers don't lie.

My county is 34/100,000 and rising fast.

The medical helicopter flies from our little hospital to the main hospital down in Jacksonville. We are hearing more and more flights every day. Can't say for sure that they are Covid, of course, but we all "feel" that they are all Covid

I am really glad I am on this site right now.....to see the effects of Delta, universally...

What gets me is that in this country, at this time, we are living like exactly like we did before the pandemic: The all star game: full crowd, I am a horse racing fan- all tracks are back to allowing full crowds back (like to Saratoga Springs NY which opens today). I am sure none of these people will be wearing masks. I just don't get it. I partially blame the national media: if you watch the Today show they continue to talk and act like the pandemic is over and we can and should just live our lives like there is no pandemic. I stopped wearing my mask when going to the grocery store but I may have to re-think that.

87% of U.K. adults have had one dose, 67% have had both. Yes, lots of vaccinated people are catching Delta, though on the whole they seem to be experiencing fairly mild symptoms (anecdotally, amongst my friends, most have had headaches and fatigue with a general run down feeling, this can last for weeks).

I dread to think what would have happened here if our vaccine rollout wasn’t decent, Delta is seeking out the vulnerable and unvaccinated and spreading much more easily through close contacts. It is, frankly, worrying and depressing, and on a practical level, extremely disruptive.

As for travel within Europe: yes we can, with restrictions, but we probably shouldn’t. I can’t actually believe they’re letting us in!! They’ve had enough of a heads up about what Delta has done here - you all have. Remember those videos from Italy early last year where they warned us to take it seriously? And we all went nahhhh, won’t happen here. Well… that.
