A little problem is that they are expected to go to school this fall.

A very good reason for everyone else to be vaccinated.

BBM

US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy on Thursday called for a national effort to fight misinformation about COVID-19 and vaccines, urging tech companies, health care workers, journalists and everyday Americans to do more to address a problem “that cost us lives”.

“Today we live in a world where misinformation poses an imminent and insidious threat to our nation’s health”

“There’s about 12 people who are producing 65 percent of anti-vaccine misinformation on social media platforms”

The Tennessee Department of Health will halt all adolescent vaccine outreach – not just for coronavirus, but all diseases – amid pressure from Republican state lawmakers, according to an internal report and agency emails obtained by the Tennessean. If the health department must issue any information about vaccines, staff are instructed to strip the agency logo off the documents.

The health department will also stop all COVID-19 vaccine events on school property, despite holding at least one such event this month. The decisions to end vaccine outreach and school events come directly from Health Commissioner Dr. Lisa Piercey, the internal report states.

Just when covid cases in TN are skyrocketing.

Just when covid cases in TN are skyrocketing.

Yes, it almost seems as if they are trying to completely stop the kids there being vaccinated. I guess they want them to follow whatever it is that their parents believe.

Tennessee's top vaccine official says she has been fired as punishment for doing her job in the face of political pushback.

Dr. Michelle Fiscus was caught up in a controversy after she passed along legal guidance to health providers saying teenagers do not need parents' consent to receive a COVID-19 vaccine shot — a position established by decades of state law.

Kudos to LA County for recognizing and admitting COVID numbers are up and for the common sense immediate step to require all residents wear masks indoors.
Can you imagine what a positive difference making masks mandatory again would make? Just that one simple thing. Sadly it won't happen in most places (I know it won't in Texas with all the good ol boys) because you know individual rights, you can't tell me what to do. We as a nation continue to shoot ourselves in the foot over and over.
I'll wear my mask (had 2x Pfizer months ago) and hope and pray the losses we're going to see won't break our hearts too much.
I'm thankful for all of you and the outlet for our collective frustration and fears.

Or because cases are skyrocketing
Maybe they’re trying to fast track to herd immunity.

Covid vaccines for kids under 12 expected midwinter, FDA official says (nbcnews.com)

After emergency use authorization, the agency hopes to move quickly to full approval.

Emergency authorization for Covid-19 vaccines in children under 12 could come in early to midwinter, a Food and Drug Administration official said Thursday, a move that could bring relief to many parents who have been unable to vaccinate their children. The agency hopes to then move quickly to full approval of the vaccine for this age group.

One sticking point for some families who remain hesitant, the official said, is that the vaccines currently in use are administered under emergency use authorization and have not been given full approval by the FDA. Full approval, if it comes quickly after the emergency round, could alleviate that concern...

And here we go
CDC Director Warns of ‘Pandemic of the Unvaccinated' Amid Rise in COVID Cases
more at link
The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned Friday that the COVID-19 outbreak in the U.S. is becoming “a pandemic of the unvaccinated.”

Speaking during a White House briefing, Dr. Rochelle Walensky said cases in the U.S. are up about 70% over the last week, hospital admissions are up 36% and deaths rose by 26%. Nearly all hospital admissions and deaths, she said, are among the unvaccinated.

"There is a message that is crystal clear: this is becoming a pandemic of the unvaccinated," Walensky said. "We are seeing outbreaks of cases in parts of the country that have low vaccination coverage because unvaccinated people are at risk."

Full speed ahead
As delta variant spreads, medical experts warn of risk to young children
As the highly contagious delta variant of the coronavirus surges across the United States, unvaccinated populations remain the most vulnerable. Among them are young children below age 12, who are not yet eligible for vaccination, prompting medical experts to warn of a potential wave of cases in the fall to coincide with the coming school year.

I’m being sort of snarky. Sorry. But I just really really really don’t want to see a bunch of children dying unnecessarily from this crap. Apparently it’s just fine and dandy for some folks though.
Also -no link cnn I think - a dr interviewed mentioned now that his real sick patients are younger (20-40) he’s having to tell entire families of small children their parent is in bad shape. Ya know. Enough already. :(

eta- I learned at work that when a medical person (nurse/doc) says someone is “real sick”... that’s pretty much it.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/...he-tokyo-olympics-arent-being-managed-experts

Read this and weep: Ask yourself why the Olympics are not being cancelled-- this could be a global super spreader. Already there are athletes there and others who have tested positive for Covid. It is utter madness to go forward with these olympics.

Well, you see, it's actually very simple. $$$$$$$$$$.

While ticket revenue does bring in a great deal of money, the really big bucks come from the Worldwide TV Contracts. With the 2022 Winter Games less than 7 months away, they have to get these games in now. The networks, like NBC, probably don't want to have 2 Olympics in the same year, and the Olympics committee wants to get the Revenue they missed out on last year.

And more good news for those of us who got the Pfizer vaccine.

Source: The Jerusalem Post

The effectiveness of the Pfizer vaccine against the Delta variant is “weaker” than health officials hoped, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said Friday, as 855 people tested positive for coronavirus and more countries were listed as places of high infection.

“We do not know exactly to what degree the vaccine helps, but it is significantly less,” Bennett said.

The prime minister held a meeting of top health officials and ministers to discuss the next steps for managing the virus in light of the numbers in Israel and what Bennett described as “the Delta mutation leaping forward around the world, including in vaccinated countries such as Britain, Israel and the US.”

He said that “Britain, in recent days, we have seen a jump in the number of children who are being hospitalized on a daily basis. This is a development that we are aware of; we are dealing with it rationally and responsibly.”

WaPo’s brilliant satirist-in-residence Alexandra Petri’s latest column nails the opposition to vaccination of kids perfectly. Read it and rage.

Thank heavens someone was pushing back against this horrible new pattern, protecting young people who would otherwise succumb and be vaccinated, almost guaranteeing them a miserable 60 or 70 additional years on the planet.

“Do you know what happens to the millions of teenagers who are vaccinated against diseases like polio and HPV?” a concerned party demanded. “It’s right there in the studies: They go on to lead healthy, normal lives instead of dying excruciating early deaths. Not only that, but they protect those around them through herd immunity."

This is one of only 2 sites I can really feel comfortable posting on about Covid. Getting constantly attacked, criticized, called names, called a Liar, it's all so depressing.

I really have lost a lot of faith in others, and probably will never feel a close affinity for my fellow American EVER again. I'm at the point where I really don't care anymore whether people live or die from Covid. It is what it is. Maybe the pandemic will go away, maybe it won't. All this BS about reaching out to others in an effort to change minds, is a fruitless endeavor. All it breeds is hate and resistance, and a diminished feeling of self. I just don't want to deal with it anymore.

At least here, I know my comments will be received with an amount of respect, rather than degrading attacks on my character and intelligence.
