Fauci, Rand Paul trade 'lying' accusations about gain-of-function research in hearing on delta variant

Fauci really lost it today at the Senate hearings, seems he was really rattled by Senator Rand Paul questioning Fauci's division of the NIH and its funding of gain of function research through an intermediary orgnanization and ultimately the Wuhan lab. Good for Senator Rand Paul for holding his feet to the fire. American taxpayers need to know if their tax money was used to fund gain of function research in the Wuhan lab.

There's little doubt that the virus is a Wuhan lab mishap, nothing to do with Fauci. He was in the USA when the epidemic was reportedly spreading globally through cruise lines and liesure travel.

Every one knows what happened, no one needs the USA senility to spell it out.

I did a Woolworths online shop today and yes the toilet paper has just about disappeared, plus the earliest I can get a delivery is Saturday and a long five hour window. It hasn't been like this since last year.

All I can say is that they'd better deliver my Grainwaves :) I've been waiting for them to go on special.

Calm done. Angry people need to calm down. Happy to follow the rules works most of the time, but not when health pandemic is the problem.

Settle down. What exactly are you suggesting - that because a few people are angry, the world should change?
Not with you Otto, I'm quoting a bbc article and asking @SouthAussie for their opinion as an Australian.

I would like to see both men behave better.

I think Fauci is a very good hair-splitter, meaning he's careful to make denials if Paul has even one word incorrect in his questioning.

Paul is hot-headed, but the NIH is up to its eyeballs in promoting GoF research.

Feds lift gain-of-function research pause, offer guidance

To be fair -- Covid may not have come from a lab, but this pandemic has--or at least, should have--awakened in all of us a need to stop risky GoF research that has a HIGH POTENTIAL to create another pandemic.

Unbeknownst to most Americans, scientists have been arguing about this for years--and now, the ones who strongly promoted it are attempting a Hail Mary play to avoid getting burned.

If Covid is chimeric in nature, it didn't have to come from the WIV--it could just as easily have come from a lab in the US, in Wisconsin or at Fort Detrick.

A majority of scientists--not counting the ones who are involved in GoF who signed either one of Daszak's letters--still say Covid likely jumped from animals to humans.

It could literally be years before we find out--if ever.

But, at the same time, more than 4 million have died from this pandemic, and the world needs to sit up and collectively say that's it's time to stop funding research that could lead to another pandemic--one that makes Covid look like a baby.

Paul is an 🤬🤬🤬, but Fauci's not innocent.

As a Canadian, it appears that herd immunity is the decision. Like the Dutch, Canadians have opened all borders based on herd immunity. Trudeau is not mingling in high risk environments, but he is advising Canadians to get out and party at concert events, just like the Dutch government. Personal caution is still a good idea - never mind every one else or governments.

And if there is proof that it was gain of function research (which was allowed to restart while the previous president was in office) that the US was funding in Wuhan lab, then the US calling for an investigation into a potential 'lab leak' befuddles me. Does the US really want to bear partial responsibility for that?

Yes. If the US bears partial--or total--responsibility, it has to step up and admit it. That's the only way to change what's happening.

One of the reasons we have so many Americans resisting the vaccine is because the United States has participated in too many shady experiments that have contributed to mistrust.

We can't bring back all the loved ones who have died, but we can move forward from here.

I just wish everyone would drop partisan politics and look at the big picture here.

Why is the USA so fixated on picking on their Health Minister Fauci? Canada doesn't pick on the health minister.

Why can't people in the USA listen to the health minister without thinking about politics?
Health is not political. Are people in the USA still thinking about drinking bleach to kill the virus? Did the person who recommended drinking bleach drink bleach?

Thanks Otto!

I'm in country New South Wales, Australia.

But I have enough toilet paper to last for the next month or so. My favourite was not available so I chose the next best and ticked to receive a substitute if needed. Normally I don't choose substitutions.

I'm thinking that areas here are expecting a lockdown will happen sooner or later.

We don't really have a "Health Minister," per se, but we do have an ongoing controversy among our scientists about what type of research is safe, and what isn't.

I don't know if anyone actually recommended drinking bleach, but if they did, that was way out in left field.

One of our problems is that we're a massive nation with massive financial resources, and those resources can be used for beneficial studies or detrimental studies.

At this point, we're seeing the individual parties who have been involved backing into their corners and trying to protect their funding and their research.

My personal opinion is that we pause and err of the side of caution until we can guarantee no GoF leaks.

Toilet paper was never the issue. The real situation is how open populations are to herd immunity. It's almost as though vaccinations offer little more than a soft landing for some - not everyone.

Canada has Theresa Lam, Canadians assumed that Fauci was the same - federal health spokesperson in the USA.

What was Fauci? Trump's health expert puppet? Isn't he also Biden's health expert? Doesn't that mean that he is the non-political health expert?

Can that vast nation get it together enough to set politics aside for health?

Fauci also announced that the reason that Canadians surpassed the USA in double vaccination stats is because Canadians did not politicize health safety.

He is absolutely correct

Covid: Anger as half of Australians in lockdown again

@SouthAussie would you agree that people are angry? I always thought it was more acceptance and happy to follow the rules.

I don't know anyone who is angry. We are just plodding along through lockdown. We know how this works by now, many of us are already set up to work from home if we need to. And the sooner we get things under control, the better for us all.

I have seen one angry yobbo on TV (in Sydney) but you know how that goes with some people. MSM probably went looking for the angry person.

If there was any anger at all, it might have been that Gladys (NSW) didn't lock down quickly enough, so a bit of the virus has crept out into a couple of other states. But I think we are even over that now. What's done is done, so we must do what we must do to contain this pesky virus.
