My little county in central Kansas has yet to see the brunt of Delta, but it's only a matter of time.

I've been keeping a close eye because my mother fell and broke her hip a few weeks ago and she's currently in a swing-bed unit in the local hospital. Masks are always required for visitation, but when she was first admitted, only two people, per-day, were allowed to visit. Now, as many can visit as desired, but the mask regulation is strict.

I've explained to her that with the growing number of cases, the hospital could soon take stricter visiting measures again, so she needed to be prepared for that eventuality. But, as I walk to her room, I keep looking to see if the other rooms are filling up. Right now, the hospital is virtually empty, which is probably why they're letting my mom stay there instead of transferring her to a nursing home.

At some point, probably in the next couple of weeks, my mom probably will be transferred and then, I'm wondering what the rules will be at the nursing home. I know that last year, no visitors were allowed, except they could stand out in the courtyard and try to yell through closed glass windows at their loved ones. I'm hoping it wont come to that, since we've all been vaccinated now.

Only time will tell. Right now, I'm one of very few who still wears a mask.

i hear the clock ticking on the wall!! But, for now, Mom seems better off just where she is!

Well, thank goodness for this! This is our version of negative Murdoch owned media that is trying to gain a foothold in Australia.

Sky News Australia has been banned from uploading content to YouTube for seven days after violating its medical misinformation policies by posting numerous videos which denied the existence of Covid-19 or encouraged people to use hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin.
YouTube has not disclosed which Sky News program the videos were from but said there were “numerous” offending videos which have now been removed.
Sky News Australia banned from YouTube for seven days over Covid misinformation

Wow. what an accomplishment, actually....
<modnsip>

This WAS a great article to read... just showing how it can be done was "refreshing". Does "refreshing" work here?? I dunno....that was the first word that came into my head....

I have a real hard time when all people do is blame others. Protect yourselves and a person should have nothing to worry about.

And what then happens to the children aged from 0-12 years old? There is a whole subset of the population who is unprotected.
It is about more than protecting yourself and then not worrying. It is about getting rid of a worldwide pandemic, so the children can be safe and grow up to live to a ripe old age.

Yikes. :(

I really think august and into September (schools  during delta community spread) may be tough indeed. In some places more than others but it gets around, especially august being prime vacation/travel time

I can easily believe it in many of the southern states.
Very few mask wearers besides myself.

Covid disappears until a parent, sibling, child, neighbor, best friend gets it.

In the past week I personally know 4 people (fully vaccinated) who tested positive.
One I just found out today.
All are younger than myself with no known health issues. Not elderly. Two have mild symptoms that are manageable with meds and two are in ICU on a ventilator.
Kind of gets your attention.

ALL over 50s and the clinically vulnerable will be offered Pfizer booster shot | Daily Mail Online

ALL over-50s will get Covid booster shots by autumn: People who got AstraZeneca 'are set to be given a Pfizer jab' in new vaccine drive because it is more effective against Indian variant
  • Booster scheme for over 50s and clinically vulnerable as well as healthcare workers is set to start this autumn
  • The Pfizer vaccination has proved to be the most effective against the Delta variant with a rate of 96 per cent
  • A new research study has also shown a third dose of Pfizer offers very strong protection against Delta variant

It does seem vax numbers are going up in some places - maybe the fence sitters who are seeing delta as not worth the risk to themselves AND OTHERS.

Idk about not believing in it until someone you actually know is sick. Or dies. But if that’s what it takes to convince people I guess.

Officials set up a mobile center at a Missouri fair to boost vaccinations. No one showed up.

Officials at the St. Charles County Health Department in Missouri said they were disappointed after no one showed up to a mobile Covid-19 vaccination center offering vaccines to those attending a local annual fair this week.

September though ...Why not like ASAP ? The logistics are already in place, production maybe? I think we have lots of extra doses lying around here someplace if you need them

And we in the US are still being told we don't need boosters.
Sure, we are so different from people in other countries, our vaccines last and last-Not!

September will be here very soon. We in the US don't appear to have any plans for boosters any time soon.

As a human being in the middle of pandemic I just can’t even comprehend this from any type of “leader” or elected official or whatever
:mad::mad::mad:
boggles the mind.
His big thing is masks. He calls them muzzles.

I just gifted an unvaxxed family member a <$20 pulse ox. And finalllly ordered one for myself:oops:
If we never need to use it, well that’s fine too :) I’ll feel better with a booster (household family was just vaxed in April-June) as work is feeling a bit sketchy lately.

I am so frustrated, angry, disappointed and sad. I’m also starting to have really terrible thoughts of what I want to see happen to folks that have fought all science backed precautions. I just keep reminding myself how fortunate I am to not have anyone like this in my family, or social network.. and very few in the town I’m in this summer (Ann Arbor, Michigan ) or where I live (Swarthmore, PA). Both happen to be towns with lots of highly educated people due to being college towns. Just mad and sad. Thank you allowing me my mini rant this Sunday morning. I’ll go back a read thread now because I remember there are quite a few of you here at Websleuths that bring me comfort with your educated explanations, compassion and advice. (((( Websleuths))))

I'm waiting to see a similar headline for us in the United States!

Those of us who are older and got vaccinated early this year need a booster ASAP, IMO.

My understanding that once vaccine is granted full FDA approval, a doctor should be able to prescribe a third shot.

Come on, FDA—it’s clearly time to get this done.

Here is a very small representation of what’s going on in Indonesia right now. This video barely scratches the surface of the severity of the situation.

@GRT sorry to hear about your Mom.

Scheduling a vaccine appointment is actually rather difficult, and I wonder if that is part of the barrier for a lot of people in the United States. I tried to schedule a follow up vaccine for a friend, who had a first shot in May, and has been too busy working to get her 2nd one. Until I pestered her about it.

So, I said I would schedule it for her...and it was actually quite difficult. Couldn't find any appointments, none at CVS, finally managed one at Walgreens today. But this could be a huge barrier for people, especially if they don't use the internet or have access.

Let’s hope DeSantis walks <modsnip> backwards a bit before school begins on August 10th, since they aren’t even requiring masks on school buses. :(
My comment was edited for being “political,” but I just wanted to clarify that I meant walking backwards regarding masks and nothing more. Wearing masks has absolutely nothing to do with politics.

Israel to offer Pfizer Covid booster shots to people over 60

Israel’s prime minister has announced that the country would offer a coronavirus booster shot to those people over 60 who have already been vaccinated.

The announcement by Naftali Bennett makes Israel, which launched one of the world’s most successful vaccination drives earlier this year, the first country to offer a third dose of a western vaccine to its citizens on a wide scale.
