Just imagine if half the population had refused vaccination against Polio back in the day.

Jacobson vs. Massachusetts (1905)
The Constitution does not import an absolute right in each person to be at all times, and in all circumstances, wholly freed from restraint.

A community has the right to protect itself against an epidemic.

"They have the power to enact restrictions on people’s mobility...and all kinds of things in order to protect the public from the spread of disease," he said. “The power to deal with these situations really goes way back."

In 1905, Massachusetts made a law to enforce mandatory, free vaccinations for adults in the wake of a smallpox outbreak."

I honestly believe it's almost impossible to stop the spread of Delta but I hope I'm wrong.

Only because we don't work together and exercise some discipline. But since we haven't done that from the very beginning, it shouldn't be much of a surprise we're where we are now. I know that I'm not really surprised. Intensely disappointed and depressed, but not surprised.

“Well, I’m not an anti-vaxxer or anything. I was just waiting for the FDA to approve the vaccine first. I didn’t want to take anything experimental. I didn’t want to be the government’s guinea pig, and I don’t trust that it’s safe,” he said.

Sounds like an anti-vaxxer to me.

By the way, the FDA did approve the vaccine. In fact, they approved 3 vaccines. It was Emergency approval, because we're in an EMERGENCY! Are you having an Emergency?

I'm sorry that the knowledgeable experts you watch nightly on your cult network didn't mention this, but Hydroxychloroquine and Monoclonal Antibodies treatments ARE EXPERIMENTAL for treating Covid. In fact, the former has been proven to sometimes be Unsafe when used for these purposes. The vaccines were a lot less experimental than the "treatments" you desperately sought once it was too late.

You just go right on kidding yourself that once the FDA had approved the vaccines, you would have rushed right out to get the 1st shot. I'm sure you had a backup excuse ready to go, and if not, the "experts" you watch on the TV, or the Politicians you likely listen to, would have supplied one for you.

I believe the person from the article has died, so he's not watching or listening to anyone now sadly.

People complained like hell about the "free money" flowing to cover Covid expenses.
You can't have it both ways.
Everyone thought the "free living" in Florida was the BEST of the BEST ways to handle Covid. We are not even seeing the truth, here. Numbers are still hidden, and people keep dying.

The enemy is not the government. The enemy is us.

The unvaccinated, the unmasked, the unwilling-to-help have made this whole situation bonkers.
BBM

Standing ovation!

Chris Whitty warns of 'very sick' young patients in hospital with Covid | Daily Mail Online

Professor Chris Whitty has urged Britons not to delay getting the Covid vaccine, saying there are some 'very sick' young adults in hospital with the virus.

England's chief medical officer — who has spent four weeks working on a Covid ward — said it was 'stark' that the majority of Covid patients have not had their jabs, and told how many 'regret delaying' their inoculation.

Almost three-quarters of under-50s hospitalised with Covid have not been vaccinated, according to official figures from Public Health England.

Professor Whitty said: 'The great majority of adults have been vaccinated.

'Four weeks working on a Covid ward makes stark the reality that the majority of our hospitalised Covid patients are unvaccinated and regret delaying. Some are very sick including young adults.

'Please don't delay your vaccine.

The CDC Only Tracks a Fraction of Breakthrough COVID-19 Infections, Even as Cases Surge
Meggan Ingram was fully vaccinated when she tested positive for COVID-19 early this month. The 37-year-old’s fever had spiked to 103 and her breath was coming in ragged bursts when an ambulance rushed her to an emergency room in Pasco, Washington, on Aug. 10. For three hours she was given oxygen and intravenous steroids, but she was ultimately sent home without being admitted.
Seven people in her house have now tested positive. Five were fully vaccinated and two of the children are too young to get a vaccine.
As the pandemic enters a critical new phase, public health authorities continue to lack data on crucial questions, just as they did when COVID-19 first tore through the United States in the spring of 2020. Today there remains no full understanding on how the aggressively contagious delta variant spreads among the nearly 200 million partially or fully vaccinated Americans like Ingram, or on how many are getting sick.
The nation is flying blind yet again, critics say, because on May 1 of this year — as the new variant found a foothold in the U.S. — the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention mostly stopped tracking COVID-19 in vaccinated people, also known as breakthrough cases, unless the illness was severe enough to cause hospitalization or death.

Child Covid-19 hospitalizations soar, filling pediatric wings, data show (nbcnews.com)

The U.S. faces another peak in child hospitalizations as the delta variant hits communities hesitant to get vaccinated.

Two weeks ago, only two or three children a day would come into Dr. Nick Hysmith’s hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, with Covid-19, usually ones who were admitted for other reasons, like broken bones.

This week, he is seeing as many as 28 children under 18 a day, some of them landing in the intensive care unit.

Around the country, child hospitalizations for Covid-19 have increased to levels not seen since January, when U.S. cases and deaths were at their highest levels, according to the latest government data. Doctors in the hospitals hardest hit by the recent surge say the situation is worse than it was in January...

U.S. officials probe whether Moderna vaccine is linked to higher risk of uncommon side effect

Federal health officials are investigating emerging reports that the Moderna coronavirus vaccine may be associated with a higher risk of a heart condition called myocarditis in younger adults than previously believed. Myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart.

One individual said the Canadian data, which was provided by that country's government, indicates that there might be a 2.5 times higher incidence of myocarditis in those who get Moderna compared with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

The investigation, which involves the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is focusing on Canadian data that suggests the Moderna vaccine may carry a higher risk for young people than the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, especially for males below the age of 30 or so.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/big-banks-vaccines-1.6147410.

All five of Canada's big banks will soon make vaccines mandatory for all staff who wish to return to the office, and those who don't comply will have to agree to regular testing.

TD told its employees in an email Friday that all employees are being asked to register their vaccination status with the bank by the end of next month.

"Effective November 1, 2021, full vaccination of an approved COVID-19 vaccine will be a requirement for all TD colleagues entering the TD workplace," reads the email from chief human resources officer Kenn Lalonde obtained by CBC News.

CIBC wrote a blog post to staff announcing a similar policy that will be in effect by the end of October.

Bank of Montreal told all staff in an email from chief human resources officer Mona Malone that due to the rise of the delta variant, it will also be mandating vaccines for all in-person staff.

Vaccinated man dies in Florida, daughters share their anger and urge people to get vaccinated — The Hill

“A fully vaccinated man who resided in a Florida retirement home died from COVID-19. His daughters wrote an obituary urging people to get vaccinated and blame the state for his life ending.

Clark Allen died on July 22 after contracting a breakthrough case of COVID-19, a “one-in-a-million” chance, according to the man’s doctor.

The surviving daughters of Clark Allen, Danielle and Nicole Allen-Gentile, expressed their anger in an obituary about how their father could have been infected and said his death was preventable, The Washington Post reported.”

“During the pandemic, Clark Allen's two daughters — along with their five siblings — debated whether their father should be in an assisted living home in Florida or Connecticut. The daughters received a blunt message from a Connecticut home: “You need to get him out of Florida. He will die in Florida,” The Washington Post reports.

The daughters speculate that he contracted the virus from an unvaccinated person at Carlisle Palm Beach, an assisted living facility in Lantana, Fla. Allen reportedly took the virus very seriously, paying close attention to public health measures as he had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease that could make a possible infection more severe, according to the Tampa Bay Times, which first shared the story.”

Was he in the assisted living or independent living area?

Was he taking meals in his room and not eating in the main dining room?

Did he wear a mask every time he left his room/apartment? Especially indoors around others?

Did only fully vaccinated people visit with him indoors?

Did he go to doctors and other appointments via a daughter or other relative? Or utilize the center’s bus?

I would think mixing unvaccinated and vaccinated in an independent living environment where people congregate indoors without masks is risky.

How do you know who is vaccinated and who isn’t? How do you keep a loved one safe under those conditions?
:(

What about vaccinated grandparents who provide childcare/after school care in school districts that shunned mask wearing/mandates?
Hope it’s only a mild case?

Georgia's governor signs order letting businesses ignore local Covid-19 rules — CNN

“As public health officials, parents, and Georgians at large beg Kemp to take action to combat the current Covid-19 surge in our state, the only action he is apparently willing to take is one that will help Covid-19 spread in Georgia and undermine local efforts to control the virus,"

Governor lets businesses reject COVID-19 mandates as state's hospitals overflow — ABC News

“Northeast Georgia Health System's hospital in Gainesville is overflowing with COVID-19 patients. Hospital officials confirmed with ABC News Thursday that as COVID-19 patients fill up beds, doctors have been treating some patients needing emergency care inside their ambulance while waiting for a bed to open up. The hospital has also set up a tent behind the emergency department for overflow patients.”

Some hospitals in the Atlanta metro area are on diversion and are turning away ambulances when their emergency departments are full, hospital officials said.”

Even a so-called "mild" breakthrough case can be pretty darn miserable, from what I hear. And for those who are elderly or have significant underlying conditions (or both), it can lead to severe illness, hospitalization, and death. Such grandparents are in a tough situation, IMO.

City Hosting Rally In Alabama Declares COVID-19 Emergency

Cullman, Ala., on Thursday declared a COVID-19-related state of emergency ahead of a scheduled Alabama GOP rally featuring the former president on Saturday as Alabama struggles with a surge in new infections and a shortage of hospital beds.

The state of emergency declaration allows the city to provide additional resources for the rally, a request that was made by the chief operating office of Cullman Regional Medical Center, which is experiencing overcrowding amid a spike in coronavirus-related hospitalizations.

Alabama saw 3,890 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, with a seven-day moving average of about 3,000 new infections, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Covid Data Tracker. Cullman Regional’s latest update on Wednesday showed that the hospital was treating 56 coronavirus patients, including 12 people who are on ventilators.

The Alabama Hospital Association also revealed on Wednesday that the state has run out of intensive care unit beds, reporting a 29-bed deficit.

I got an email this morning that I'm eligible for the booster with my local University hospital that I see my specialists at. It only had a special clinic tomorrow though you had to make appointments with. Not a ton of openings for one day.

As I'm only 4 months out from my 2nd shot and I know others are in greater medical need right now I decided to pass. But I hope they will offer this again soon so I don't need to wait for a booster 8 months out. Any ideas on when it's most ideal to get it?

I had thought it was 6 months so no idea why the govt decided to offer it at 8 mo for everyone else. Is 6 mo still when things have dropped considerably or is there some more info on 8 months out?

I personally think that the Israeli vaccination regime is reasonable, since it is based on significant research results. I think the U.S. is using 8 months as a practical matter in terms of getting the booster shot approved and then rolling it out, I don't think it is based on the science regarding the timing of the vaccination regime.
