I honestly think this thing started before Christmas. How many folks have flown in from China before the "official outbreak" ? there's been plenty of time to spread this 🤬🤬🤬🤬 far and wide tbh.
I live in the UK, not far from where the 2 York cases have been brought to - it's quite scary and I think all flights in and out of China should be banned for a couple of months.
I certainly won't be ordering anything from China for a while as the virus (much like Flu germs) can live on surfaces for a while.

At Least Two-Thirds of China Economy to Stay Shut Next Week

More than a dozen Chinese provinces announced an extension of the current Lunar New Year holiday by more than a week as the nation attempts to halt the spread of the novel coronavirus that has killed hundreds of people and sickened thousands.

Fourteen provinces and cities have said businesses need not start operations until at least the second week of February. They accounted for almost 69% of China’s gross domestic product in 2019, according to Bloomberg calculations.

All the key eastern manufacturing provinces have extended the holiday. They include Guangdong, home to the tech city of Shenzhen across the border from Hong Kong; Shanghai, home to China’s largest port and a newly-built Tesla Inc. plant; as well as Jiangsu, where Nike shoes are manufactured. Henan in central China, which has a large Foxconn plant making iPhones, also announced the extended break.

Coronavirus fears could lead to online scams for face masks, says B.C. watchdog - Vancouver Is Awesome

“With several local stores advising of low inventory or being completely sold out of the masks, millions of consumers have turned to purchasing them online,” reads a statement from the BBB.

“While there are benefits of availability and convenience when shopping online, this trending demand may spiral scammers, fly-by-nighters and shady businesses to take advantage of consumers.”

Consumers should look out for fake websites that harvest credit card information, according to the BBB’s community and public relations manager Karla Laird, and sponsored ads posted by fraudsters offering prices that are “too good to be true.”

In addition, consumers should be aware of deceptive posts disguising malicious links and fake social media business profiles that take shoppers’ money and give nothing in return, said Laird.''

Lots of videos online that are difficult to confirm but this one claims:

A crematorium in Wuhan (note that it is one of the crematoriums in Wuhan) Ten garbage bins filled with bags containing corpses. This is only one day of a crematorium (note that it is only one day) There are five or six crematoriums in Wuhan How many people have to burn on this day?

The White House Briefing confirms asymptomatic transmission, and cites Germany for example.

Oh my. So all that sceening where they only relied on a thermometor being pointed at a person's forehead didnt mean squat. Anyone that they let go home because they didnt have a fever could have still had the virus and spread it to others.

This is awful and it is getting worse.

And it is starting to hit our "home" countries for many of us just as we feared.

I hope my 20ct box of 3M-N95 masks I got the other day will last awhile and I dont care if people laugh at me at the store where I shop when I walk in with one on.

In fact I was thinking about this yesterday. If I put on a mask and walk into my grocery store, then others (that may be infected) will probably be scared of me and stay away from me. So rather than the mask helping me not breath anything bad in , it can help to keep people away from me. :)

I may have to make a test run to the store this weekend with my mask on and see if people start to stay away from me. On second thought, with my luck, someone will call authorities and I will be hauled away for quarantine for 14 days. :)

Seriously though. I pray for everyone who is sick and for those in the new areas where we are starting to see cases in new countries now. All we can do is prepare and protect ourselves as much as possible, and by being here and learning as much about this as possible, we are empowering ourselves more than most. And that is a good thing.

Let’s trust this is just media speculation and all is well leading up to the 2020 Olympics.....

“Tokyo Olympic organisers are trying to shoot down rumours that this year's 2020 Games might be cancelled or postponed because of the spread of a new virus.

Japan has so far reported no deaths from the coronavirus that has killed more than 200 people in China. Japanese organisers have hesitated to say much for several days, but on Friday they addressed the rumours. So did the International Olympic Committee, which also has said little.

The Olympics open on July 24, just under six months away.

"We have never discussed cancelling the Games," Tokyo organisers said in a statement to The Associated Press.”

If folks would rather don a mask to go out absolutely do it. We all have to decide what we are comfortable with. I just had a fit test done last week and my mask did change-to what I don't remember. Tester and I got yacking. Not worried the card will be in my file and easy access to the size I need. I guess I'm shrinking

I certainly won't be ordering anything from China for a while as the virus (much like Flu germs) can live on surfaces for a while.

From what I can see in the numbers, the virus was effectively restricted to Hubei province before spreading out from there to other provinces in China and to other countries around the world. I do agree it was probably spreading small-scale in Wuhan for a while before it got noticed, but for how long or to how many people, who can say? If the death rate is truly much higher than it appears to be now, it should have been noticed a lot sooner than it was, so that's one sign that the death rate shouldn't be too much higher.

The lower death counts outside of Hubei don't suggest it was spreading outside of Hubei before we were told that it was.

While there are only just over 100 cases outside China, we get death counts from each of those countries as well, and at the moment that wouldn't appear to be higher than any places in China that have 1-500 people currently infected. So I'm not seeing strong evidence of a huge cover up in the death rate at the moment. I don't know if all cases of pneumonia are typed, and I don't really know how this outbreak was determined to be of a previously unknown virus (to humans), so I would think that perhaps a few pneumonia-diagnosed deaths might have actually been due to the coronavirus during December in Wuhan. I don't see any way to compare the figures for Hubei to anywhere else at the moment...but the figures for other places in China don't look very different from the Rest Of The World figures, so that would suggest limited manipulation/cover-up or none.

A guess of about 40 Coronavirus deaths currently requiring cremation in Wuhan itself? Possibly higher than that.

But then you've got all the other deaths that occur daily in a city that size, and although it hasn't been stated, I would think a lot of funeral services aren't being held due to not wanting people to congregate at funerals/wakes?

I didn't want to view that, but they don't really look like body bags? Maybe medical waste is being burned at the crematoria as hospitals own facilities are overwhelmed?

Are people over reacting or not taking this seriously enough?

Coronavirus: American, Delta, United cancel China mainland flights

Some people will over-react, some will not take it as seriously as they should (with personal preventive measures) and most people will be somewhere in the middle.

At the moment there are likely some incidents of over-reaction, such as banning anyone who's Chinese (or could appear to possibly be of Chinese descent) from a store or a restaurant.

There was a country that reportedly stopped freight/goods traffic incoming from China? I'd say that's an over-reaction.

If we could have stopped all strains of influenza in their tracks before that started to spread globally every year, would it have been worth it? I'd say yes. So if this can be stopped, then that would be a good thing, even if the mortality rate is no higher than that of flu. But that doesn't mean we should worry more than we do with flu. And there are people who probably don't take flu seriously enough.

Wow, I just checked ticket prices to Hong Kong, I can fly there cheaper from my city, than I can fly to Seattle.

Great time to go for a bargain vacation.

Oh, they will stay away from you. Last week I was in Walgreens and turned to go down the allergy meds aisle when I saw someone with a mask on. I spun around and took another route to the pharmacy counter.

There were 2,102 new confirmed infections in China during the day, bringing the cumulative total to 11,791.
The local health commission of Hubei Province, the epicenter of the epidemic, earlier on Saturday reported 45 new deaths from the outbreak on Friday, bringing the total to 249.

The province has confirmed 1,347 new cases of infection on Friday, with the total reaching 7,153 by the end of the day.

...compare to 19 million that have gotten the flu in US this year, with 10,000 deaths
