Thanks @anneg, but I woke up early this morning (3:30 a.m.) shaking violently from chills. When I got out of bed, they almost made me lose my balance! My temperature was 100.7. I sat up wrapped in two bathrobes and a blanket until the chills passed and I went back to bed. When I eventually got up in the late morning my temp was still the same. I slept all afternoon and now it’s normal and I feel OK enough, but still very tired with a slight headache. The first shot made me feel achy and feverish with a headache, but no chills. I’m not complaining though. It’s a small price to pay for a degree of protection. :)

I'm sorry you had a bad reaction to the vaccine- you are so right though, it is a small price to pay for a great degree of protection- Be well

I got mine! It's a good thing I did, too, because, check this out:

California to offer $116M in coronavirus vaccine prize money

California to offer $116M in coronavirus vaccine prize money

Californians will be eligible for $116.5 million in prize money for getting coronavirus shots, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Thursday, a windfall aimed at getting millions more vaccinated before the nation's most populous state fully reopens next month.

California isn’t the first state to offer vaccine prizes, though its pot of money is the largest, and so is the most valuable single prize: $1.5 million.

The state's reopening is pegged for June 15, and on that day a drawing will be held to award 10 vaccinated people the top prize.

Another 30 people will win $50,000 each, with those drawings taking place June 4 and June 11.

Anyone 12 and older who has received at least one shot will be eligible, regardless of immigration status, Newsom said. Exceptions include those who are incarcerated, non-California residents and other "categories," such as individuals who work for the state lottery.

People who have received at least one shot are already in the registry for the drawing, he added.

"If you're disappointed on June 4, you didn't win $50,000, you got June 11, your name will automatically be in that pool, and then again on June 15," Newsom said.

The next 2 million people who get vaccinated will get $50 digital gift cards, effective Thursday. Individuals will receive them either through email or text message after their one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine or second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.

Newsom said more ideas are coming after June 15, but did not share additional details.

"These are real incentives, these are opportunities to say thank you to those not only seeking to get vaccinated as we move forward, but also those who have been vaccinated," Newsom said.

Among all Latinos, 57% are not yet vaccinated. That’s the highest percentage of any racial or ethnic group. Forty percent of white Californians are not vaccinated, according to state figures.

Newsom said a survey from the University of California, Los Angeles found that 31% of people said incentives would make them more likely to get vaccinated.

The governor added he believes the state will have 70% of Californians fully vaccinated by June 15.

The Treasury Department this week updated its guidance for how states and local governments can spend billions of dollars in aid included in the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package that passed in March.

Lotteries, cash payments or other incentive programs are allowed as long as they are “reasonably expected” to increase vaccinations and the costs are “reasonably proportional” to the expected public health benefit, according to the department.

“We are nothing if not responsive to good ideas,” said Andy Slavitt, the White House senior adviser on the national COVID-19 response. “We encourage states to use their creativity to draw attention to vaccines and get their states and the country back to normal as quickly as possible.”

Crazy, huh?

It is crazy but whatever it takes to get our country to herd immunity is worth it

Isn't it strange and wonderful that we are happy when others here feel like ch%t! We know that their bodies are doing their thing! I saw a local report of someone who was a teenager in the trials. It made me smile when her and her mother, after the shot, were soooooooooooooo exicted that she felt unwell! They knew she had the shot and not the placebo and celebrated such when she felt unwell.

Again as said many times, it's fabulous that the general public is NOW getting so much education that getting the vaccine is NOT getting the disease (as so many folks said "I got the flu from the flu shot" iykwim) and their malaise is due to their body reacting and doing it's thing!

Sorry Lilibet to use you as an example, as when going through it... may question if it's an issue or just your body having a fabulous response and cranking out those long term protections. And, as we know here from long ago, fevers are GOOD!

@Lilibet, thanks for updating that it, indeed, was short term and your body is geared up and protecting you.

I am both looking forward and not looking forward to getting my second AstraZenecha shot in July.

I wonder if I'll have the same violent response. But that's a good sign right.

I feel more optimistic since I had the first shot.
This time I'll just come straight home after I get it and not walk around shopping for an hour then felt so sick I had to get a taxi home.

When questioned by congress we learned that the number of vaccinated employees of the CDC, NIH and one other department I can’t remember, only about half have been vaccinated.

I went to check again. It was the FDA, CDC and NIH. Go to 2:20:00 to see the question and answer on this.

I am fully vaccinated today - have had my 2 jabs - and good to go without a mask... (per CDC) - but NOT going to go anywhere without my mask. Not too many people have been vaccinated here. Just looked it up - 16% in my region.

My sister got her second Moderna injection on Friday. She went to bed early and slept most of the day on Saturday. Fatigue seemed to be her only side effect. She spent Sunday and Monday "hanging out" at home.

Just checking in to say that I received my J&J vaccine just days before the halt in early April and other than mild body chills the following day, no other known effects. I'm blessed to have traveled across the country to spend Mother's Day weekend and also my birthday with my 90+ yr old Mom this year. Woohoo! :):):):D:D:D

Dear @Seattle1,

How wonderful you spent time with your Mom on Mother's Day Weekend and for your birthday!

That is so heartwarming to hear!:D

I received my first Pfizer vaccine in April and my second one is schedule for August but it looks as if it will be bumped up to sometime this month.

No reactions at all - except overwhelming relief to get the vaccine.

Hello @Niner,

I will continue to wear a mask in grocery stores, banks, etc. There are the "variants" to consider plus the people who refuse to get vaccinated.

Once my whole family is vaccinated - we won't be wearing masks in our backyards!

ETA: I'm so grateful every time I hear updates of people getting their vaccines. It's the most wonderful news during this terribly worrying time.

I experienced “Covid Arm” a week after my 1st Moderna shot. My arm was itchy, red and tender at the injection site. Seems to be a rare but harmless side effect that lasted a few days.
I had my 2nd dose 3 days ago. Started feeling fatigued that evening, which worsened the next day. I slept most of day 2 with mild shaking, chills and no appetite. Today is day 3 and I’m a little tired but feeling well enough to watch my grandson. I’m glad to be fully vaccinated and would do it again without a doubt!

@lynchmob67 - I too had the same side effects as you with my 2nd Moderna jab. Tired, didn't want to eat, chills, etc. You described my perfectly. And I feel good now! Fully vaccinated! Now.... what is "normal"? :D

I am so GRATEFUL to have had the vaccine (and to be fully vaccinated now!), but the 2nd Moderna was ROUGH. Really bad. I started feeling some slight effects a few hours after the shot (I got it at 4:15 pm, started feeling off around 8:00 pm-ish), and then woke up the next morning feeling all kinds of awful. I had the worst body aches I have ever had, I felt super weak and groggy, I had to walk very slow (it was a struggle walking to my bathroom in my studio apartment...), and I had a horrific headache. I am a very healthy woman and haven't felt that awful since I had the flu years ago. I kept it at bay the best I could with Gatorade and Advil (I had the go-ahead from the woman who administered my vaccine. She recommended it) and just ate cans of chicken noodle soup in the following days. I normally have a large appetite, and I wasn't nauseous or anything, but I wasn't hungry, which is weird for me.

Luckily, by day 3 after my vaccine, I was feeling totally fine again! Very grateful for that.

My parents got the 2nd Pfizer shot a few months ago and they both have very similar side effects as me, although they are both in their mid-to-late 50s. After a couple days, my dad was able to go on his normal daily 5 mile walks.
