Greetings all! I just received my second Moderna shot today and so far all is going well and I’m feeling fine. A month ago I received my first shot along with 8 others (in that time bracket) and the facility was packed with numerous nurses administering shots and people lined up waiting. Today only 3 of us showed up for our second shot with no lines, empty chairs and only one nurse working. Stay safe everyone. :)

I just submitted to my state to get my immunization records to ensure that the shots are in "the system". When I logged into get them, I also landed on a page that said I could remove my information if I wanted to from the system.

FYI to those that may think this is an issue as to personal privacy. Perhaps your state has the same. (My state requires any immunization to be submitted, and can be retrieved immediately through a doctors office... it will take me 1-3 days to get my complete records)

I do think, that once the emergency use authorization turns into a full fledged FDA approval, that many companies (and schools) may treat this the same as the do other vaccines being required.

We shall see.

Sorry about that. I was logged in to NYT when I copied the article. It's a shame that so many people are reluctant to get vaccinated as it is likely the only way that life can return to some semblance of normalcy. I share your doubts about a vaccine passport - medical information should remain private.

I think history will show that the march toward normalcy ended when Dr. Fauci first made his infamous comment about fully vaccinated people needing to keep living like it's 2020. The change was palpable - "open" States removed all restrictions, while restricted States seemed to double down on extended mitigation. I check out twitter feeds from news sites, around the country, and it's like all progress has stopped. People who are living "normal" lives shake their heads at the warnings for vaccinated people, while the rest seem comfortable with the idea of masking, distancing and sanitizing being made essentially permanent. If restrictions were uniform, across the country, I think there would be much more of a consensus on reaching the "end." But, if someone from Chicago can drive to Indiana. or Iowa. to spend a weekend free of restrictions, it's like a pressure valve that allows Illinois to keep restrictions in place. I really hope I'm wrong, but this feels like it's as good as it's going to get.

Just had my weekly CDC vsafe update. This week it asked me if I had a positive pregnancy test at home or in lab. I don't recall that question being asked before.

As before, it gave me a link to report my own VAERS report (vaccine adverse even reporting system)

I like how you have presented this.

Yes, it feels disturbingly like we are not going to get the COVID genie back in the bottle.

People are not going back to safe social distancing. Masking is going to drop precipitously, and the effort to continue vaccinating in a predictable and comprehensive manner is falling away.

We should all be reading about the premature cessation of conservative measures and persistent distaster palnning that has allowed India to be in meltdown.

It can still happen to us!

Do I need a mask outdoors? CDC says certain activities are safe for fully vaccinated people (nbcnews.com)

It's unclear how much the new guidance will change people's behavior, experts say.

Outdoor activities are safe without masks — regardless of whether a person is vaccinated — as long as people are either alone or with immediate family members, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday. And fully vaccinated people can gather safely outdoors without masks in small groups.

The new guidance is part of an update from the agency on what activities are safest for Americans, depending on whether they are fully vaccinated; that is, those who are two weeks out from their last dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

People who are fully vaccinated should also feel comfortable without face coverings outside with other small groups when it's unclear whether others have had their shots...

CDC says many Americans can now go outside without a mask (detroitnews.com)

CDC: Fully vaccinated can go outside without mask (clickondetroit.com)

CDC guidance says fully vaccinated or not, people don’t have to wear masks outdoors alone or with members of their household
I am so happy with this news!!

Got Moderna dose #2 on Sunday (two days ago). Symptoms hit about 12 hours after the shot. Mild chills, mild sore throat (that lasted about 10 minutes), achy and urpy but no vomiting or diarrhea, tired. I also got a bit sneezy as the other symptoms eased.

At almost exactly 24 hours after the shot, the symptoms disappeared completely.

Today, day 2 after the shot, I am not at all tired though still a bit sore in the arm.

All in all, I'm pleased with the process. And very grateful.

“Today is another day we can take a step back to the normalcy of before,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said in introducing the new advice on when people should wear masks. That guidance says vaccinated people don’t need masks while eating outdoors at restaurants, gathering in small groups or conducting outdoor activities like hiking.

No need for vaccinated people to mask up outside, CDC says

When those of us who have been vaccinated are out and about trying to live our lives more "normally", how can we know whether or not those with whom we might come in contact have also been vaccinated? Despite the mask mandate in Michigan, I've seen many people remove their masks the minute they leave a venue that requires them. DH and I have kept our masks on until we get into our vehicle/s. The CDC's mask guidance introduced today is likely to cause mass confusion about who is permitted to be mask-less outdoors because they've been vaccinated and those who choose not to wear masks because it violates their personal liberties.

Agree 100%. I'm immune, I'm still wearing my mask outside and keeping my distance even with my friends and family who are immune as well. It's psychologically difficult for me to ease up so soon. I have the same concern as you, which is how to distinguish between those who are maskless outdoors because they're vaccinated, or maskless because they're unvaccinated and reckless. I know I'm safe and immune but don't want to be hit by a variant.

All along here in NYC there have been many people who just refused to mask up. In my apartment building I would always walk out of the lobby or the elevator if someone came in without a mask. (And my co-op's laws demand that they did wear a mask, but they didn't). I feel that removing my mask outdoors is another step toward the de-normalizing of masks, and unvaccinated reckless people will toss theirs when they shouldn't. I'm conflicted because I know I'm allowed outdoors without one but don't want to encourage the unvaccinated.

As far as vaccines and personal experience.

I got my annual mammogram within a week after the first dose.

By the time I got my second dose (as stated earlier in the threads) the nurse giving me a shot told me NOT to get a mammy with 6 weeks as false positives. Ummm. I had within days of my first one and came back "abnormal/follow up needed"

I posted back then that no one had said prior this was an issue when I got my first shot..

but just today.. on my Kaiser site it says...

"Appointment Cannot be Scheduled
For patients planning to receive or who have received COVID-19 vaccine: Kaiser Permanente xxxxxxxxxxxx recommends women get their screening mammograms either before their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine or at least 6 weeks after the second dose"

The reason I guess and from what I have read is that the lymph nodes and other stuff are "active" or ?? don't know medical term. Glad they are screening for such! VERY VERY interesting that I was denied, as I did NOT get my vaccine through Kaiser, they must have a connection with the state to know I had gotten it?

I went in for my annual physical this am... after second shot...

When I called last earlier this month to schedule my mammogram, I was asked about my vaccine status. At that time, I had completed both Pfizer doses and probably would have been told to wait if my mammogram was due sooner. The screening was postponed twice last year due to non-emergency medical facilities being closed for at least three months, but I didn't realize that I hadn't gone until June. They are still running behind and couldn't schedule me until early July. By that time, I will be far beyond six weeks after my second shot.

I just scheduled my follow up diagnotics mammy for 6 weeks post second Pfizer. I had my primary care doctor outing yesterday. Today at 4 pm, I will start my wonderful "purging" of bad stuff in "preparation" for my colonoscopy tomorrow, which I have also been putting off longer than I should have. Yippeeeeeee... mammy and colonoscopy are my first benefits of having the post 2 weeks post vaccinations.

Others talk about going to outdoor dining, dinner with friends etc... and THIS is what my benefits are ... augh!

ETA: Oh yeah, need to schedule dental cleaning. I'm gonna get my monies worth this time!

ETA #2: My primary said I needed to get my annual skin screening. I told her I had been calling and they said they weren't doing due to COVID. She said NO... that she had been told that by other patients and she gave me the "secret" of getting around such and demanded I make that appt too.

Hope all you folks are enjoying dinners out while I am backlogged with medical outings... not to mention my bone density test, my blood work etc. that I now have to schedule.

GRRRRR.

:eek::(:confused:o_O:oops:

Thanks for all the vaccine info posted, some directed at me. I still choose to hold out longer on the vaccine, especially since there is talk of a covid pill on the horizon. It's easy for me to stay isolated, but for some it's not possible, and I don't blame them for getting the vaccine. Two of my next door neighbors got covid last month, one senior with underlying issues, both were hospitalized and are now home recovered. I think treatment is much better now than at the start of the pandemic. I was the only neighbor always wearing a mask outside, even on my own property, and I was made fun of, I was even called "paranoid." As i posted previously, I feel more unsafe now that being unmasked will be accepted and we can't know who is vaccinated and who isn't, who received a failed vaccine, who picked up a variant, etc. My pharmacist told me the flu shot in 2019 was a complete waste because it didn't match the strain going around. I would still wear a mask outside, vaccinated or not.
Is the CDC saying the majority of the vaccinated aren't transmitting the virus by relaxing the mask wearing protocol outside and on a limited basis inside?

Very happy to report that I got my first dose of the Moderna vaccine today, about 5 hours ago. Feeling fine, just with a sore arm. Hopefully I don't get hit too bad tomorrow! Very excited to be fully vaccinated by the end of May.

WA has been very slow with the vaccines but we are finally progressing; it took my 57-year-old government employee dad until late February or March to get his vaccine!

I just read the covid news out of India and it's horrible. They are dealing with a double mutation that is highly contagious and breaking through the double vaccine, just as the U.S. is relaxing covid protocols. Additionally, flights from India to the U.S. aren't banned, so keep wearing masks and social distance in case the mutations reach the U.S.

I will not take it. I don’t trust it and do not trust the manufacturers. Pfizer has ties to the Wuhan lab. Fauci has ties to the lab. So many deaths would have been prevented if not for the arrogance of many with power. They refused to treat early with drugs found to help in other countries. The death count itself is highly inflated. Only 6% were from just COVID. 94% had other causes with COVID. If you look at total deaths last year from all causes the numbers are very close to 2019.

@anonymiss The news from India is indeed shattering. Where did you hear that the double mutation is "breaking through the double vaccine?" The news I've seen says that only 1% of India's population is fully vaccinated, which is why many countries are sending vaccine supplies to India as quickly as possible.

@FLmom777
This thread is asking will we or won't we take the vaccine, so your opinion and my opinion and all opinions on this subject are welcomed and expected here. The facts underlying our choices need to be accurate, though. Where did you get your information that Pfizer and Fauci are connected to the Wuhan lab? Dr. Fauci has 40 years of experience in dealing with infectious diseases and is based in America. What drugs were successfully used to treat Covid in other countries that were banned here in America? Hydrochloroquine was found to be ineffective and dangerous to some. What is your basis for saying the death count is "highly inflated?" There are 570,000+ deaths in the U.S. attributed to Covid. When you state that 6% of deaths are from "just Covid," and 94% had "other causes with Covid," you are saying that 100% of the death count is due to Covid. Are you implying that 94% of the deaths had underlying causes and that the addition of Covid killed them? And 6% were due to Covid and nothing else? Because you are actually supporting the fact that Covid is a very deadly killer.

Again, we are on this thread to explain why we would or would not take the vaccine. You have every right to express why you won't. I just personally feel such dismay about it because I do not think you are citing any credible facts at all, IMO. I agree that many have died due to the arrogance of those in power, but I blame that on those in power who denigrated masking even after it proved to save lives, and who while knowing better, publicly stated that Covid was no big deal and would disappear. If those in power really believed that, they wouldn't have privately been tested, been given extraordinary hospital treatment, and been vaccinated secretly. I don't want to get political but am responding to your comment about those in power. JMO.

The article is from the NY Times, 4/27/2021, the journalist is Gettleman, I think the title is "This is a Catastrophe in India." There are over 1,000 comments to the article, some from Indians saying the situation is much worse than being reported, people are being arrested for asking for oxygen, the sick are are being turned away from hospitals, etc, it's absolutely horrifying if these stories are true.

Thank you for providing your source, but that's not the part of your post that I questioned. This is all undoubtedly true and a humanitarian crisis. The part of your earlier post which I dispute is when you stated that in India the virus is breaking through the vaccine. The actual problem is that they have til now only had enough vaccine to immunize 1% of the population. India is now trying to set up websites etc to get their population vaccinated, and they have been crushed by 1.7 BILLION people in India who need to get vaccinated, or at least the adult population. It can't come soon enough. Hundreds of thousands are dying EACH DAY. But it is not that the virus is defeating the vaccine, it's that the vaccine isn't there for them. So the rest of the world is sending help. While such a great mass of people have no vaccine, the virus has its opportunity to mutate further and that is awful for the whole globe.

Again, you have the right to refuse the vaccine. But we need to make sure we have the facts. I'm vaccinated but like you, I choose to remain cautious. It's my nature and it will take me baby steps to do anything similar to pre-Covid. However, I feel amazingly relieved to know that my chances of contracting Covid and becoming severely ill are vastly diminished.

I had my second Pfizer shot yesterday, approximately 22 hours ago. With my first shot, I had a sore arm. So far this time I also have a sore arm, but less sore than from the first shot. No other side effects as of yet, hoping I am in the clear from any more forming
