Delta covid is a beast. Get fully vaxxed! How long did you wait after your first dose? It should still work very well if wait is longer than 3 weeks, probably even better.
As for your brother, can he try to get monoclonal antibody infusion?

Yesterday was 4 weeks since my 1st dose. I was hoping side effects wouldn’t be bad with a space like this. Maybe wishful thinking lol. We’ll see.
I am waiting to hear from my brother today. This is day 3 for him. I hope if he gets worse they will try anything possible. thank you @jjenny, I will ask him if I get a chance. It’s really hard when you can’t be there and nobody else can either. Ughhh.

I just got my 3rd vaccination this morning.

As a front line healthcare worker I became eligible this week for my 3rd shot, and I took the first availability I could find, after searching available appointments within a 20 mile radius.

Has anyone here had their 3rd shot yet?

I have to go back to the hospital for clinical rotations next week. I’ve had one, the Johnson and Johnson single dose vaccine. Everything I read about boosters talks about Moderna and Pfizer. Have any of your coworkers had a Johnson & Johnson booster? What I’ve read said that J &J was more effective against the new strains to begin with, and that there may not be a booster shot needed for J& J.

J&J did a study on a booster for its vaccine.
"Johnson & Johnson said it is planning to submit the results of the study to the Food and Drug Administration to help make a case for authorizing a booster for everyone who received the company's vaccine. The company said the study supports a strategy of giving a booster at eight months, even though in the study volunteers were given the second shot at six months."

Finally got my 2nd shot today! Moderna. I am so happy and relieved! I had to delay vaccination because of heart problems and needing a heart cath (long story) but I would have gotten the vaccine the first day it came out if I could have. But it's finally done!

I had no side effects from the first dose. Hopefully will be the same with this one!
Updating @50 hrs post 2nd dose. My arm is slightly tender if I lay right on it, but no side effects.

Happy dance over here!

I got my second dose of Pfizer about 53 hours ago. I expected the worst due to the excruciating headache I had for days and days after the first dose. Nope! So far, arm sore for a few hours only at vaccination site, slight headache started that night and I took a tylenol. I took another tylenol a few hours later and 2 tylenol yesterday. That kept the headache to a very minimum and hardly at all. I was very tired late that night and slept in quite late yesterday haha. Completely sluggish all day yesterday. Got up early this morning and nothing. No headache, not tired, no sore arm, nothing.
SUPER EASY! I also hydrate well. one powerade and lots of water.
My brother is on day 6 of his breakthrough covid. He was fully vaccinated (pfizer) and is pretty vigilant about masking, etc. He had to travel for business and had to fly. It is really bad. Every horrible symptom except as of this morning, his breathing was okay. I am about to check on him again so not sure where we are at right now. It started with runny nose and over all these days the symptoms just kept hitting him extremely hard. He didn't lose taste and smell until yesterday. He is sure he would have died on day 2 if he had not vaccinated. So, he says "GET VACCINATED!!"
Sorry this is so long but I put off my own vaccinations and if I knew how easy it was, I would have gotten them much sooner. And now with my brother's horrible breakthrough case, I will continue to mask and not take chances. I hope everyone will stay safe!

Could your brother get monoclonal antibodies? I believe that's the most effective treatment we have right now after someone is infected.

The “conversations” are very short and only when he can text me. He can’t even get a call back from his doctor. Day 2 he talked to a nurse after getting his test results but rapidly declined. His breathing is “okay” and he has an oxygen meter. I made him promise to hit 911 if his breathing gets bad. And I told him to write down or ask about the monoclonal antibodies. So thank you for reminding me of that. I am in a fog. Absolutely did not expect this.

If he’s that weak, he might not be able to get up to fix something to eat or hydrating properly. Does he text you his oxygen levels?
I know you’re worried about him.

Thank you for mentioning texting me his levels. I should have thought about that. I will ask him to do that. As soon as he got his results, he called me and then he ordered medicine, the oxygen meter, powerade, etc. I do know he drank tea last night because that is when he said the Earl Grey tea tasted like hot water because he has lost his senses of taste and smell. I am going to ask in the morning if he can tell me what he ate/drank the last 24 hours. I keep asking about his breathing and he says it's okay. He knows that is crucial to monitor, thank goodness. What a horrible feeling to not be able to take care of someone you love :(

It’s hard being so far away from a loved one and wishing you could be there.

Wife got second Moderna, yesterday morning. She said she "didn't feel good" this morning, but she seems fine, to me - and she said it's certainly not debilitating. So she has had Covid (with antibodies present after nine months) and now two Moderna. She should be as protected as possible, at this point.

Yes, that's equivalent to having two vaccine shots plus booster, if I understand correctly. With recent vaccination with Moderna, her protection should be good for quite a while. MOO

People who had covid and then got vaxxed should be even more immune than those who either just got covid or just got vaxxed.

@LotsaLatte how is your brother doing?

Welcome @Philpot! :)

Well! I almost posted that he was on the mend about a week ago and then BAM! He got worse. Pretty sure it was pneumonia and/or a sinus infection. That lasted a few days and he is finally getting better! I honestly don't think he would have made it without being vaccinated. He battled hard and I am so thankful he made it! We'll see if he has any long term issues. What a nightmare. I don't wish it on anyone. Thank you @Lilibet for asking :) that was very thoughtful of you!!

Whew! I’m so glad there’s good news, even though there was a tough setback. I hope there’s nothing long term, although I still try to conveniently blame momentary memory lapses on “Covid brain” even when it’s just the normal stuff. :D

For me and my family we have chosen not to get the vaccine.. I’m just not comfortable yet with it. I know there is a lot of false information out there.. but I have read too many things that just don’t sit well with me.. I’m grateful I live in a country where we have the freedom to take it or not. Just my 2 cents, which don’t mean much
