Coronavirus Vaccine: Would you/did you get it? #2

For me and my family we have chosen not to get the vaccine.. I’m just not comfortable yet with it. I know there is a lot of false information out there.. but I have read too many things that just don’t sit well with me.. I’m grateful I live in a country where we have the freedom to take it or not. Just my 2 cents, which don’t mean much

Welcome to websleuths! :) I sincerely hope you and your family stay well and don’t experience the tragedies we’ve been reading about on the main thread. The Delta variant has increased the risk for both unvaxxed and vaxxed, but the unvaxxed are faring much worse. You will also find the most up-to-date and responsibly sourced information about Covid and vaccinations on the main thread. You may find it helpful to compare it to what you’ve read elsewhere that doesn’t sit well with you. There are some very well-informed members who may be able to reassure you about your concerns.

I’m sure you realize that we don’t have total freedom to not take the vax without consequences. It depends on who you work for, if you go to certain restaurants, events, etc. But even if you live and work in an area with no vax mandates, please do be aware that your freedom to remain unvaxxed restricts the freedom of those who are vaxxed. Because of strong vax resistance in my area of Southern Oregon and a surge of Delta cases, my husband and I don’t feel safe doing normal activities like eating out, attending plays, seeing friends…all the things that make life enjoyable. If we need a hospital bed, few are available because of mostly unvaxxed Delta Covid cases.

We are essentially held hostage in our homes by those who are not vaxxed. So I’m begging you and anyone else who has sincere concerns about the vaccination to re-examine the information upon which you’ve based your decision and weigh that against the good of society as a whole. Wishing you well. :)

Update - got 2nd dose Friday and did have some fever/chills that night. Woke up with a low grade fever Saturday but Tylenol took care of it. Went to bed early last night and feeling better today :)

For @MercyNew and others with vaccine reservations…
One FL man’s harrowing Covid experience prompted at least 60 family, friends and colleagues to get vaccinated. They weren’t anti-vaxxers, but most had reservations about side-effects. Robby Walker needed an ECMO machine to have a chance of survival, and after a massive search of 169 hospitals in the south failed, he had to be flown 1200 miles to be treated in CT. He lost 50 lbs and was unable to stand without a walker…more at link.

After 169 hospitals, a dad finally got the Covid-19 care he needed -- and changed dozens of skeptics' minds - CNN

I posted this on the main thread, but I’m bringing it here as an example of the sad result of being unvaccinated…

Sigh. Back in the very early 1970’s my husband’s first teaching job was at a three room school out in the boonies. Everyone in the community was either related or knew each other. He taught third, fourth and fifth grades for three years before moving to a school “in town” to teach fifth grade. We just found out that two of his former students and the younger sister of one all died of Covid in August. Their ages were 55, 58 and 60. Their mothers outlived them. They all had children and grandchildren they adored and were active and respected in the community. According to the former colleague who sent him the obituaries, they were not vaccinated. Such a sad and unnecessary loss. :(

I made sure I kept hydrated with Powerade and water, took a Tylenol, had crackers on hand, etc. Not sure if that would help you feel better ❤️‍ I hope you feel better soon though!

Welcome! You'll be fine. Side effects pass quickly. I've had my two shots last spring and will now be getting in line for a booster.

Its a shame we have to have boosters, due to the Delta and other variants. The sooner everyone gets vaccinated, the less likely we'll see more stronger variants.

I’ve examined everything I could find. Until they start recognizing that those that recovered from covid are just as immune as those that are vaxxed I simply have no trust in the government agencies and what they claim.

Younger relatives (20-ish) aren't keen to get vaccinated. Some of them already had Covid 6+ months ago. One just enrolled in a med school and had to get a shot.

Looking around I see that a number of people (even older) get vaxxed just to avoid restrictions and don't consider the health benefits of the vaccine.

Well, of course this is your right.

However, what or who is the "they" that you wish to recognize your claim that immunity is equal in recovered Covid patients, compared to those who are vaccinated? The CDC, FDA, Fauci, city, state and fed agencies? They have already done so much to encourage everyone to get vaccinated, even those who have had Covid. My friends who died clearly did NOT recover from Covid at all, but everyone recovered from the vaccine.

IMO when you say "those that recovered from Covid are just as immune," I would counter by saying that before the vaccine, at least 8 people that I know died of Covid, but none since the vaccine.

We've probably all had the smallpox shot if we are old enough, we've had the polio vaccine, school kids must have the MMR and other shots to go to school. These are doctors telling us that vaccines work, and this is just another vaccine. If we have no faith in doctors we may as well diagnose and treat ourselves at home from now on.

I'm a lifelong NYC resident, born and bred. Kind of a lot of people here. It's the unvaccinated that are still getting sick.

In my parents' community in Florida, Covid has ricocheted back since last year and again closed down their clubhouse and prevented them from enjoying their later years. They are both vaccinated but near 90 years old, and are being deprived and endangered at their age by others in their community and the state of Florida who will not get vaxed.

This is a free country and you do have your rights. But when a disease is highly contagious, it's no longer a "my body, my choice" argument. It's not just a person's own body when a disease spreads through the air we all breathe together.

Those that recovered should be counted as fully vaccinated. Until they do that then they are being dishonest in the reports about the number of people that are immune.

It wouldn't make sense to count someone who isn't vaccinated, as fully vaccinated.

From the articles I've read, being infected and recovering does provide some level of immunity/antibody. The issue is that it doesn't seem to provide a consistent level, so someone with a lower level of antibodies would still be at risk of reinfection.

Immunity doesn’t last long in people who have had COVID. Our company does testing for antibodies in people who have recovered from COVID. We start checking for COVID antibodies 24 days after a positive COVID diagnosis, and continue checking every two weeks.

Some people don’t have antibodies even 24 days after a positive COVID test. Others have antibodies for a few months after.

Even after having COVID people should get vaccination.

We have had patients who had COVID in March and got sick again with COVID in August.

Please get vaccinated.

Recovering from COVID does not equal vaccination.

I wish it did, because there are so many who refuse to be vaccinated even after getting COVID.
