Whoot! NY lowers vaccine ages! Happy news!

Over 30, starting tomorrow
Over 16, starting April 6

As of now, "15.2% of 19 million New Yorkers are fully vaccinated — the 39th lowest level in the nation, according to The Associated Press’s analysis of federal data."

But, we're catching up: "Nearly three out of 10 New Yorkers have received at least a first dose of the vaccine, in line with the national average, according to U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data."

New Yorkers 30 and over can get COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday

I can't believe this is actually happening - the vaccine really is getting out to the nation!

So, hubby and I got our second shot of Moderna on Saturday at 10am. We both felt good all day and into the night, even slept well

Yesterday was a bit chilly and rainy outside but we stayed in anyway. After I posted my update here, all of a sudden I could not warm up, had body aches, chills and strangely my feet were freezing no matter how many socks and blankets I had on. Both of us slept on and off the rest of the day and had a low grade fever.

This morning we woke up and feel fine.

I was surprised it took 24 hours for symptoms to start post-vaccine. The nurse told us we’d feel symptoms 8-10 hours after the vaccine and would have felt better by yesterday.

Happy that it is over!
Yeah that’s crazy! Mine started 6 hours after my second shot and by 9 hours I had a fever, body aches, chills etc. Lasted about 36 hours. Crazy how it effects everyone so different! But glad you got it and feel good now :)

So happy to hear this. Now, at last, my daughter can join the rest of us in the family who are vaccinated.

Biden admin remakes vaccine strategy after mass vaccination sites fizzle — POLITICO

Gee, mass vaccination sites are held at large arenas or stadiums in big cities - in a neighboring county if you’re lucky. Driving 2-4 hours one way to an unfamiliar heavy traffic city versus 30 minutes to a familiar pharmacy? Of course people will choose the easier and closer option.

Driving 2-4 hours to get to a mass site, I would agree is too far. But, I did drive about one hour away to get my shots at Dodger Stadium. Living in SoCal, I didn’t consider that too unreasonable.

I liked that it was completely drive up, too. More comfortable and safe feeling to be able to stay in your car the whole time. So, I was fine with a mass site the way it was organized. IMO

Some elderly do not drive or unable to drive that far plus being on oxygen, where to use the bathroom, in a wheelchair, etc.
Or if a caregiver - trying to find someone to take over duties for the trek.
An hour drive is reasonable.

Definitely. And the side effects from the vaccine are negligible when compared to side effects from COVID.

Thursday: Pfizer vaccine, 2nd Dose intestinal cramps and diarrhea
Friday: fever, headache, stomach cramps, coughing, sneezing
Saturday: felt better during day, exhausted by night
Sunday: migraine
Monday: "Covid Arm", my left arm has a huge red rash, hot, and a large lump. Feeling fine, other than that.

My question is, if the vaccine hit me this hard, I shudder to think how Covid would have affected me...

That makes me wonder if those having the side effects would’ve had a bad case of covid had they caught it. DH was asymptomatic with covid and his only side effect was a mildly sore arm for one day. I had a mild case of covid and had a sore arm for one day. We’ll see this weekend how I do with the second dose. Then there is the blood type hypothesis.DH is O- and I am O+.

A negative here.

About these comments saying " Texas". No, we aren't going maskless. Not in any way.

I just wanted to say that I don't know anyone living on this huge private community who isn't masking every day. At least half the homeowners are older adults who built a house here and retired. No one's going to be careless with health and masks.

Almost every day, Condolences have been sent from management publicly to families who've lost a resident member. Some days, the list has been quite long.
So, we mask for others, out of respect for all, and for our own bodies.
I cough a great deal sometimes, and would not go without a mask. I know why I cough but others can't see or know why.

Texas is fiercely independent, but N. Texas has a great deal of common sense generally. We are still wearing masks, and would not be allowed in public places without them.

Unfortunately the South/Third coast is nothing like that.

None of the stores stop you if you’re not wearing a mask. Walmart, HEB, CVS - none of them say a word. They all have signs saying a mask is required with a person with free masks at the entrance - but they are silent. They don’t offer a mask or say a word.

Entire families with no masks. Elderly people with their walkers - no masks.
Sports events - no masks. Pictures of girls night out inside a restaurant - no masks.
It’s like pre-pandemic. Unreal.
