Pfizer, Biontech say trials suggest Covid vaccine works against South African variant, is effective after 6 months (nbcnews.com)

"It is an important step to further confirm the strong efficacy and good safety data we have seen so far," BioNTech CEO Ugur Sahin said.

Pfizer and BioNTech said Thursday that trials suggest their vaccine is effective against a coronavirus variant that first emerged in South Africa, which some experts worry might evade existing shots.

The drugmakers also said in a statement that 12,000 people involved in their Phase 3 trial experienced high levels of protection against Covid-19 six months after their second dose, with no serious safety concerns...

I don't recall if this has been mentioned yet, but Staples and Office Depot have offered to laminate immunization cards at no charge. No purchase necessary, either. DH had his card laminated at Staples on Wednesday. I had my Pfizer shots at a Beaumont hospital facility where they gave patients a plastic sleeve for the vaccination card after the second shot. I suspect that we will eventually have to produce our cards for proof of vaccination against COVID.

CDC: Fully vaccinated people can travel in U.S. without tests or quarantines (nbcnews.com)

Ultimately, the guidance may do little, as people are already traveling extensively nationwide.

People who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 can travel freely in the U.S., as long as they remain masked on planes, buses and trains, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Friday.

It is unclear how much impact the new guidance will have. People are already traveling and making decisions on their own. American Airlines reported Monday that the company's bookings have jumped to 90 percent of what they were before the pandemic.

The new guidance means that "fully vaccinated grandparents can fly to visit their healthy grandkids without getting a Covid-19 test, or self-quarantining, provided they follow the other recommended prevention measures," CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said Friday during a news briefing...

Thank you, Bette Davis' Eyes.
Do you know if the plastic coating will invalidate the authenticity of the card if it has to be presented in other countries?
As Bonnie Plunkett said on " Mom": " I just LOVE laminating things" when she was running a scam with something or the other and got caught.

OTHER countries likely do NOT have the laminating obsession citizens of the US have. ( I hope not, anyway).

Maybe this is a legal question, because IMO, if the item is CHANGED, then it's NOT QUITE authentic. I remember my grandmother having endless grief because she'd laminated her Social Security card as a senior adult.

IMO, a waterproof removable sleeve is vastly superior to laminating- probably something that will be easy to find for all our important ID this summer.
IDK, just trying to decide whether to seal mine up or leave it alone. It's NOT like we can replace these like we can a lost DL or other plastic cards.

What You Need to Know About Your Covid-19 Vaccine Card - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

...Laminating your card will make it more durable if you’re planning to carry it around in your wallet, though there has been some concern about lamination because it would prevent information from future booster shots from being added. But Dr. Ikediobi said that this “may be a moot point if new cards are issued after a booster shot, as would seem likely.”

A number of companies have jumped in to offer free lamination. Staples is offering free lamination of vaccine cards for those who have gotten their doses, according to Jocelyn Moruzzi, a spokeswoman for the office goods retailer. The offer is valid at all of the company’s United States locations with the offer code 81450 and does not yet have an end date.

“Customers began seeking out ways to protect their Covid-19 vaccine record cards, knowing they will likely be important to have on hand in the future,” Craig Grayson, vice president of print and marketing services for Staples, said in an email on Wednesday. “Leveraging our existing capabilities in store felt like a natural way to provide a free solution.”

People can also get their completed vaccine cards laminated for free at Office Depot and OfficeMax stores nationwide using the code 52516714 through July 25...

My daughter is 28 weeks pregnant. She got her first Moderna vaccine last week and is feeling fine, absolutely no side effects. Her OB said recent studies have shown the antibodies will provide immunity to the baby.

Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since my 2nd Moderna. I’ve experienced some lightheadedness and dizziness off and on for the past 10 days. I realized I also felt that way following the first vaccine. At the time, I thought my blood pressure might be low but since it’s happening again, I’m attributing it to the vaccine. It hasn’t happened enough to really bother me, just enough for me to notice. I’m curious if anyone else experienced this? I haven’t read every post, so if it’s already been discussed, please feel free to ignore me.

I had dizziness after my 2nd injection, yes.
I received a larger than usual dose ( because the same Paramedic messed up my first dose) so I think I likely was sicker with almost all the post- COVID symptoms after the 2nd vaccine. I only had a slightly sore arm at the injection site area for the first one.

In my case, it felt different from the dizziness of, say, early pregnancy, and I had a lot of dizziness then and dehydration, necessitating IV fluids. I felt very sick and weak when pregnant.

This dizziness with the vaccine was accompanied by a strange headache. It felt like there was some swelling in my brain. I think there could have been, as we get fevers and the fever reaction can cause some swelling in the brain which goes away. ( I think it's similar to the headache people get after drinking too much, but as I haven't consumed alcohol in many years because I don't like it, I really can only say " I think it's about the same as the headache with a hangover".)
I knew not to worry about it, just to rest in bed or on a sofa, and not get up fast or move fast with the dogs.

Dizziness and headache associated with a slight febrile reaction should go away when the fever subsides. Usually 24-48 hours.
If you feel like you need medical attention, go to the ER or UC center. We are ALL different in degrees of response to the vaccine. :)

I had the Pfizer vaccine
After the 2nd one I had random dizziness even when laying down
It was profound enough when it happened, that for instance I wouldn't have wanted to drive during that time
It was gone by day 4

Thanks for posting this, dmac55! Sorry you had to go through that! How soon after the vaccine did the dizziness start? What were your side effects like after the first shot?

I'm scheduled for my second Pfizer shot on Wednesday at 8am. Was supposed to be Good Friday, but I guess the hospital thought people might head out of town for Easter and scheduled it for the following Wednesday instead. Wednesday and Thursday are my two busiest days at work - really need to be at the office if I can!

I only had minimal soreness at injection site after my 1st Pfizer vaccine

I had my 2nd Pfizer vaccine in the morning
I napped alot that day

The side effects I experienced after the 2nd shot were headache, fatigue, and the random intermittent dizziness
Those started in the wee hours of the next day, and gradually diminished in intensity every day, and all were gone by the start of day 4

I didn't have to go out so I spoiled myself and mostly slept/lounged through those days, but I do not think I needed to

I had my second Moderns jab Fri at 10am. Due to an infection my second dose was delayed 8 days, 36 days vs 28 days.

I had a very sore arm Friday, kept waiting for the side effects none so far.

Good that you are now on your way to being fully vaccinated. It is a good feeling to know you are protected. Hoping you continue with no side effects, but even if you have a few aches and pains, it will be well worth it to have that protection.

Have you checked online your state's immunization record. After my second vaccine shot, I have a note to look online the next week to make sure they entered it. By law, all immunizations are entered into a database, so you could print it out again. My guess is later down the road, folks that don't have a card, the information could be looked up? And is publicly available? We shall see.
