Coxes to appear on Dr. Phil Show

No kidding. Between what Steve Powell aka Steve Chantrey, Josh's father writes on his web site: http://stevechantrey.com about his mother disappearing and now this? WEIRD!

I had read about this, but it totally went over my head! Here's a link directly to the page, btw.

Ok, I'm confused and didn't even think of this before. Is the family name 'c?' or 'Powell?'

hmmmmmmmmmmm.......

maybe we do need a new thread.

Odd twist!

PS...........I see there's a thread for J's dad so I'm gonna go on over there and see if we can straighten this out....fran

This was covered over at the trib by some supersleuths. A "chantry" is a mass for the dead, believed to hasten the passage of the soul through Purgatory. There are variations of the word, but it has to do with religious singing, and so forth. Think of the root word "chant" and monks. It is a made up stage name.

Wow.... just.. Wow... What a name to come up with. The man is sick, but this is really really sick considering his past and you couldn't tell me he didn't plan his stage name to tie in... Sick

His mother disappeared?

From Steve Powell's web page "Meet Steve Chantrey"

My grandparents had preceded us to California, and were living in Santa Monica. My dad and his parents all found work at Hughes Aircraft (and probably none of them knew any more about Howard Hughes than about the man in the moon). Grandma worked in the cafeteria, Grandpa worked in production, and my dad worked in the tool crib.

In only a matter of months my dad made a unilateral and secretive decision to separate from my mom. So on a given weekend he took us to visit his parents while my mom went to spend the weekend with her aunt in Burbank. Unbeknownst to her, my grandparents had, prior to that weekend visit, transported their trailer house to Northern California, and parked it in Weed.

When we headed over to see my grandparents, and kept going north on Highway 1, something seemed amiss to me, even at seven years old. "Where is momma?" I asked. Grandma curtly replied, "You're never going to see your mother again." Of course, that was more devastating than the disappearance of the green car. My older brother, my sister and I were inconsolable. My baby brother probably just wondered what the commotion was about.

We kept driving until we reached Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Grandma and Grandpa parked their trailer house at a trailer camp along the highway, where I-90 now runs. My dad moved to Yakima, Washington where he had found work as a district supervisor for a regional newspaper. The good news for me was that I did not have to finish the last few weeks of second grade, and the next year I started into third grade without missing a beat.

Steve Powell's mother, JP's grandmother, was tricked by Steve Powell's father and grandparents. While she was away visiting, Steve's father put the children in the car to go take them to see Grandma and Grandpa. He states, in my entry below, that he was confused because they kept driving up Highway 1 in California instead of going to Grandma and Grandpa's house and states that his grandparents had moved their trailer (either a mobile home or travel trailer) to Weed, California.

IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED STEVE POWELL AND STEVE CHANTREY ARE THE SAME PERSON

Oh wow! Thank you for the explanation! This says a lot!

Not to mention, Gram put hot pepper on young Steve's tongue for telling playmates they'd been kidnapped..

unilateral and secretive decision

bbm I think Josh made the same decision.

Seems to be the family motto. They should print-up some t-shirts.

Still not sure SP's mom disappeared. Talks of separation.

KP may be speaking of someone else, but implies something tragic happened to her grandma. Could have been a sudden illness, or a car accident for all we know.

I'm not saying Steve Powell's mother disappeared. This just is to illustrate to what lengths Steve Powell's father went to so he could have the children to himself. Granted, Steve's mother ran off with the children earlier but Steve's father was able to find them. (One has to wonder if Susan would be missing today if JP was raised by his mother instead and they met and married!)

Then we have Steve Powell filing for full custody of Josh and his siblings and putting Josh's mother through years of court battles which resulted in her finally giving up and moving to West Valley City, Utah where Jennifer and Josh Powell moved to as adults to be close to her.

Because of this family history, it is clear the Powell's believe that using children as pawns is fair game, that they are of the opinion they "own" their children and if the mother involved wasn't needed or wanted anymore, they will go to whatever lengths it takes so they are in full charge of the children without involvement from the mother.

Based on what JP has learned from his grandparents and father, does it surprise you that Susan is missing? The mentality of these men is deplorable, men who instilled an attitude in JP which most likely resulted in the decision he made on or prior to December 6-7, 2009 to make Susan Powell disappear!

Is Susan Powell still alive? If she is, it would not surprise me one bit to learn Steve Powell, Josh's father, is involved and holding her hostage somewhere with the assistance of other family members.

Because of the fact JP appears to have committed the perfect crime, I am starting to arrive at the conclusion this was a premeditated murder because nobody is that skilled these days to avoid leaving one trace of evidence unless the murder was planned in intricate detail, something I don't think JP is capable of. HURRY UP ALREADY AND FIND SUSAN POWELL~!

This waiting and waiting and waiting is driving me nuts. I can't even begin to imagine how those who love Susan are feeling. I have to wonder how many people are dreaming of things they'd like to do to Josh Powell!

I don't know, isn't it fairly common for parents to do battle for custody?? After all if they are no longer compatible with their spouse each will think the other is a poor influence on the children.

Very large step from running off with the children at an opportune moment and killing your spouse, I think.

Personally I'd be VERY surprised if this turned out to be true. SP seems to have his hands full with several of his kids back with him (yes, I do think that is odd). I don't see what good kidnapping Susan would do for Josh.

I'm thinking there is some evidence, not a "perfect crime" with such a weak alibi. Just WVPD is being very careful to analyze all the evidence and follow all leads so the defense lawyer doesn't trip up their case in trial. It almost seems like they are intimidated by him at this point.

By the very fact that it's a crime, I can't think perfect along with it. I agree it looks like they're being very careful. It might not be JP but rather his attorney they're considering. I'd hate to see a case where they fail to prosecute because of some technicalities. I have a feeling this is far from a perfect crime. I keep the story of JP turning white as a sheet when served the most recent search warrant on the van as very encouraging. I get the impression it's just a matter of time and he knows it.

Reminds me of Casey Anthony's Case, She never worried about the searches until she found out about the one where they actually found her body.... Josh must be concerned about that Van for a reason...

I didn't really express myself correctly. What I meant was the perfect crime "if they don't find Susan". In other words, some crimes are just not prosecutable unless there is a body (or) they are too risky to try for fear the jury will find the defendant innocent.

The disposal of Susan's body could have been planned in advance with the advice of SP, with the actual murder being a spontaneous, crime of passion due to a manic episode during which JP became enraged.

FINALLY THEY ARE TALKING!

The family said Joshua Powell was physically abusive to his wife at least once, she did not seek medical assistance or file a police report.

Joshua Powell threatened to take the children if Susan left him, and he often tried to "undo" her parenting efforts, such as taking the children out of bed and telling them their "Mommy is so mean" after she put them down for the night, Gifford said.

The Cox family says Josh was very controlling of Susan, and limited her access to the couple's bank account, even though Susan was the primary breadwinner in the family in the past year. Gifford said Josh often changed the PIN number for the ATM on their account.

Gifford also said Josh would not allocate enough money for Susan to buy groceries, which caused her to become a gardener to provide enough food for the children and herself.

Oh, dear...I've personally lived with "undoing" and undermining parental efforts. I was always the mean and unreasonable one. And threats to be ruined if I left....Poor, poor Susan...

On a brighter note I can also say children are so resilient that in the end they can end up being some very impressive young adults. Hope this is the case with Susan's boys.

Children are resilient at hiding the problems and working around them, but I know they follow and haunt them into old age, no matter how well hidden. Josh is now showing the results of his own "resilience" I would say.
