Criminal Defense Attorney for Casey - Linda Kenney Baden

  • #61
Can someone tell me how Ms. Baden can take a case in Florida? Did she pass the bar there?

It's called pro hac vice in legal terms. The Latin meaning is "for this one particular occasion." In some states they have to file a motion with the court to be accepted with their credentials and the judge has to sign it. I don't know about Florida.

BTW, I think it's really important to note that LKB is fairly new to criminal defense. She's mostly known for her litigation work and from what I understand, she did have an excellent record in that dept. Even getting high accolades from Johnnie Cochran.

She didn't even have the basics down pat when it came to the criminal justice system. You could tell that her and hubby crammed for her medical examination of witnesses (Lynn Herald anyone?), but she just came off VERY uninformed and condescending. She's definitely out of her forte in the criminal justice system.

Again though, it just goes to show how much work Jose Baez and his crew really put into this. I really don't believe this team does anything but look at surface level only. How he made it through medical school and passed the Florida bar is a question that I will never be able to answer.

No more multi-state exams?

The multi-state is alive and well :woohoo:, but we still have to be admitted one state at a time, as far as I know.

Thank you for letting me know that! Some friends and I are discussing the fact she didn't appear to know Florida law very well in her appearance today.

:blowkiss:

You're welcome :-)
I'm gearing up to watch the hearing right now, so I'm excited to see how she does. Also, the more lawyers you watch, the more you'll notice that a lot of lawyers don't know a lot of law

Bolded by me........I think you meant law school. LOL

I'm sure you mean, Jose' Baez. To that, this is all I have to say. :toast:

Thanks for the correction. Of course, with his knowledge of the law, he probably did attend medical school and not law school.

The only thing scarier than imagining JB as a lawyer, is imagining JB as a doctor!!

When I heard about Mrs. Baden on the tv news this morning, I couldn't believe it. From what court tv said during the Spector trial, she is suppose to be an expert on forensics. She is almost as bumbling in court room as Baez. I hope she realizes this will be a Florida jury and not California one.

IMO, Mrs. Baden is the reason Spector wasn't convicted in the first trial. Most gave her performance good reviews.

My friend looked it up and the motion for the Pro hac vice was filed today!

Well. I spent all of yesterday glued to the TV in disbelief. After hearing NG ask, "Where is Caylee?" for five months, and then this discovery yesterday morning, I feel sick. I guess I knew this was coming but the truth seems to be worse than I had even guessed. It's very sickening and truly sad.
As far as Linda Kenney-Baden, I think this woman did an excellent job in the Spector trial. I liked her the entire time. It saddens me to think she might join Casey's defense team.
I have no more words today.

I think Kenny-Baden was outstanding.

I thought it was all over for Spector. Kenny-Baden confused and defused rational good evidence and was credible.

I also think it will be good to have a woman on her team.

But, I AM saddened by the development. I think Casey deserves the worst. I believe killing Caylee was deliberate. Her tormenting her parents by teasing them with hope was cruel and evil.

Whom are these "most" you refer to? She was a joke....and her hubby was shown to be for sale by the highest bidder.

Problem being the Baden team wion.

I would hardly say a mistrial was a win IMO. He still will stand trial yet again. And everything that went on in the first trial they might not be as lucky next time around:)

JVM or one of her guests said these experts usually do the work pro bono for a piece of the action later, book deals, etc. Then she listed them off, Dr Lee, Kathy Reichs (still very disappointed in her)...etc.

I thought I saw both Kobi and MB listed as defense consultants in the past on NG and maybe LKL.

JB is a complete idiot. And honestly, I don't see how LKB, even if 'admitted' to practice in FL, could be lead on this case. I guess if DP off the table it changes things. Expect Mark Geragos next!

I've not seen Michael Baden's name come up on anything (that doesn't mean I didn't miss it), but I 'bout had a heart attack when I saw the name, Dr. Werner Spitz flash across the screen. This is the man who said that Lana Clarkson shot herself because most gun shots to the mouth are self inflicted. Of course, he failed to take into consideration that most woman don't shoot theirselves in the mouth at all. His next reason? Lana shot herself because of her blood alcohol level (wasn't it like .12 or something like that?). Of course, again, he failed to mention Phil Spector's alcohol level. I forget the exact numbers now, but some 15 or so hours after the shot was fired, PS was still testing at near legal limits himself. Remember too, he was being held at this time for questioning, so there was no way he continued drinking.

Jose', I'm eager to hear that Dr. Vincent DiMaio will be joining your team as well. You have to get him. The amazing team you've lined up will not be complete without his expertise, too. You gotta get him. Casey's very life could be on the line.

Amster, I'm with you, I don't know a single person who thought LKB did a good job defending Phil Spector. We do think she make a heck of a nanny though. Maybe the nanny thing is the draw for this case?

I'm just hoping the judge doesn't allow magic acts in his courtroom.
IMO LKB was not too sharp to have her own husband as one of the experts in the PS case
And listening to her at the hearing yesterday,I was not impressed. A lot of AH's in between words.
The dream team just screams out how desperate the defense is.

Ms. Baden is a tough, smart lawyer--one thing it does for the prosecution in my view will be to pretty well take away any notion of an inadequate defense after trial.
So when it happens, I think it'll stick.

I have to respectfully yet completely disagree. LKB did a fantastic, beautiful, stunning job in the Spector case. I loved watching her. I think she is intelligent, definitely informed, and not condescending in the least - the opposite, in fact.

That's why I am saddened to learn she took this case. And a little frightened that she might just get a not guilty verdict for CA. I doubted this even would be possible until LKB joined the team.

I think she's really good at her job.

And now everything gets more interesting. Now I have to root for both sides.
