http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/woman-forgives-husband-left-son-hot-car-24758398

she got to the hospital, she told her husband she loved him and made sure he looked at her.

"I love my husband," Rogers-Seitz said. "Of course I forgive him. But it doesn't mean that our lives aren't different now. So we have to move forward with a new different reality for us, and it's always going to be that way."

Rogers-Seitz, an attorney who also has two daughters, said in an interview Tuesday with The Associated Press that her family is grieving together.

Obligatory link to the famed Fatal Distraction article below. Some experts theorize that it is not forgetting, but 'misremembering,' - that is, in your mind, the baby is safe at daycare, so even if you think of him or talk about him during the day, you don't suddenly remember he is in the car. Rear facing baby seats and a change in routine are the biggest factors, iirc. In certain cases, I find this plausible, although I of course do think parents need to be thinking of ways to make sure it never happens to them.

My babies were always in sight of my rear view mirror. If that had been impossible for some reason, I would have bought another mirror.

How about this: If you're that absent-minded that you may simply "forget" that you have your number one responsibility on this earth in the back seat of your car and you know you are a schmuck-head (if you're really honest with yourself) then ***put a clothes pin on your nose*** until you take the child out of the car.
And realize that you have limitations in life.
And start to really explore your subconsious motivations.
And think twice about your priorities, your narcissism, your short-comings.
And think again before having more children.
Do a huge and honest self-assessment. Really.
I'm sorry for sounding so snarky but puh-leaze!!! I have no patience for dim-wits.
And I have even less patience for selfish adults who are too self-absorbed to realize the precious, innocent child they leave in the back seat.
Sorry.

http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/...wareness-of-Heatstroke-in-Kids-269476181.html

The mother of a Ridgefield boy who died after being left in a hot car has started a blog to raise awareness of heatstroke in children and help others avoid the tragedy she suffered.

“The profound grief and trauma that we were going through was something we could never verbalize,” Rogers-Seitz explained. “How do I live the rest of my life? Do I just break down right now in hysterics, and just not live?”

Thanks for posting this. It's great to finally see a picture of Ben.

This story makes me furious!
I don't know where to begin.
Ridgefield is close, I know the area well.
2 words come to mind; entitled and Stepford.

This "Mother" has also written a blog.

She is making a political issue of this tragedy. Really?

The father actually went to daycare after work and found out his son wasn't there!!!

How do you NOT SEE your child in the back seat????????

I find her blog and her demeanor appalling.

"I look forward to speaking to sophisticated media outlets for National Heatstroke Prevention Day that realize what the true story is -- an intellectual and political discussion around ways to alleviate the grave public policy concern that the nation is facing right now."

I agree 100% with you BunnyHop. I don't understand how she speaks of their grief and trauma as past tense. Is it easier now? Everyone's different but I suffered a loss this year and was barely functioning at 3 wks.

Is the fact that this mother is a lawyer the reason there have been no charges filed against the father?

I honestly haven't seen a recent case of a child being forgotten to die in a hot car that has not had some kind of charges filed.

I know. If I ruled the world, I'd make it illegal to leave any living creature in a stopped vehicle, at any time.

I've had run-ins with two very stupid pet owners/drivers about leaving their dogs in hot cars - they remember the temp the vehicle was at when they were in it, driving, with the air con on. I got some person who 'thought their dog was fine for 15 mins in a stopped car' to sit in the car with a heavy coat on. They got out after five.

Well then I hope you also change all of the laws restricting where dogs can go! As a multiple dog owner who has often traveled with my dogs it is simply IMPOSSIBLE to never leave a dog in a car while traveling!

Have you ever driven across country with Fido? Or even on an eight hour car ride? Unless you are willing to pee in the bushes (which is illegal in public) then you will HAVE TO leave your dog in the vehicle occasionally.

bbm; it's called "changing the subject" around here....

its now a national problem instead of a personal one

I was thinking the same thing.

She sure is changing the subject, big time.
She feels very cold to me. That poor child died a horrible slow death while his parents
were distracted. I am mad---sorry.

Ugh, somebody help me understand why a hot car is the ONE PLACE you get a pass for leaving a baby? If I went off to work and forgot my baby at home in his crib I would surely be arrested for neglect, but ironically in an air conditioned house the baby would at least have a fighting chance to survive!

It boggles my mind.
