GUILTY CT - Connie Dabate, 39, murdered in her Ellington home, 23 Dec 2015 *husband arrested*

Not only that Ellington is so small everyone knows everyone...and in the surrounding towns as well where the two are originally from...I expect it in other places...and wonder what went so wrong...I mean I don't understand killing the mother of your children for insurance (especially thinking you could get away with it!). I could say more but I will just end it there...

I grew up in Ellington...Crystal Lake.... Ellington is very beautiful still yes built up but not as much as some places are. It's still Cowtown USA LOL....I live in Vernon now... I was in Ellington until I was 21....I was in shock a case like this is close to home. NOW in the past I'd say year....Vernon has had it's blows with....well I'd say MORE youth violence and still that is few compared to most places. Ellington though I NEVER would have thought I'd hear any thing like that would happen especially on the Road it did. But then again....stranger things have happened.

That's because Vernon is a "city--I think" and had S&S and McDonalds (I am just kidding with you)! My family is in Manchester and SW (Big City!) so I know Vernon well…but none compare to living where I am now! I would take any of that for suburban Los Angeles!

Vernon is a rural suburb....not a city... bear with me I am just having first coffee lol. Hartford and New Haven our major players.

New Haven is bad...Bristol is like little Providence...Hartford is like Boston...it is nice in one and sketchy when you turn the corner. I can't really put Vernon in the same class as the bigger cities...much like Ellington, or Tolland, or even Manchester. There are bad people everywhere though and in the best of towns and in the wealthiest of communities. This guy just seemed "normal" and that is what's so creepy. They were just like the majority of us and most people never saw signs that could predict that something like this would happen. And that is something that people now carry with them. It is sad.

I’m so glad this thread popped up on my feed. I was more of an active WS member when this occurred. Any idea when the trial will be held? Is this guy out on bond? I can’t recall.

What’s going on with this case? No trial date set yet?

Jury selection will begin in March in the murder trial of Richard Dabate, accused of shooting his wife in the head in the basement of their Ellington home in December 2015 in a case that has drawn national attention for investigators’ use of data from her Fitbit they say pierces his alibi.

Dabate, 43, appeared in Superior Court in Rockville Tuesday, the first time he has been before a judge since January. He has been free on a $1 million bond since his April 2017 arrest for the murder of his wife, Connie Dabate. The case has languished on the docket because of the voluminous amount of discovery materials and health issues surrounding his attorney.

The trial is expected to take an extended amount of time, with the state planning to call 163 witnesses including 46 experts.

Richard Dabate rejects plea deal in Fitbit murder case, pushes for trial in wife’s killing

Quotes from article:
Connie Dabate was fatally shot twice with a .357 Magnum that Richard Dabate had purchased several months earlier, according to arrest records. Richard Dabate was taken into custody in April 2017.

Richard Dabate has maintained his innocence. He told investigators that armed intruders killed his wife in their home. He said he only managed an escape when he turned a blowtorch on the intruders as they tried to tie him up, arrest records show.

He was found by police on the kitchen floor, partially bound to a metal chair.

The case drew significant attention for electronic data collected by state police investigators, including data from the victim’s Fitbit.

Data from the Fitbit showed Connie Dabate moving around the house last at 10:05 a.m., an hour after Richard Dabate said she was shot in the head by intruders, records show.

Among the troves of data, investigators found that Connie Dabate had also posted three videos by 9:46 a.m., according to police records.

Investigators reported that movement captured on the home’s security system did not go along with Richard Dabate’s description of the attack.

A state police dog was brought in to search for the scent of the intruders, but only found Richard Dabate’s scent, according to investigators.

During an interview, Richard Dabate told investigators that he had a pregnant girlfriend, arrest records show.

He told investigators that Connie Dabate had agreed to “co-parent” the child, a statement her family and friends said was outlandish.

Days after Connie Dabate’s killing, Richard Dabate attempted to claim more than $400,000 in life insurance. Investigators also discovered that Richard Dabate had made a recent $93,000 withdrawal from an investment account in his wife’s account near the time of her killing.

Probate records show many of the wife’s funds had been depleted by Richard Dabate.

Connie Dabate’s sister has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Richard Dabate claiming he shot his wife in the head.

The criminal case and trial will now be handled by Judge Joan K. Alexander. It is not immediately clear when the trial will be held.

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story said police reported that Richard Dabate bought the gun several days before the killing. Records indicate he bought the gun months before the slaying.

Man accused of killing his wife in 2015 appears in court for a hearing

The trial was slated to begin in April of last year, but now it’s unknown when that will happen.

Dabate’s lawyers and prosecutors were one juror short in March of 2020, but then all courts in Connecticut shut down because of COVID.

Dabate is due back in court on October 5 for an update on his legal team. In the meantime, he remains free on $1 million bond. In the meantime, he remains free on $1 million bond.

I’m looking forward to this trial finally happening. I don’t think Richard Dabate’s story ever made a lot of sense, and think there was a lot of animosity in that marriage due to his affairs. Whether he did it or not, I hope the evidence will be clear and justice will be served. I hope those little boys are ok.
