A man who lives at the same address where a 12-year-old was found dead last month has been charged with sexual assault, Enfield police confirmed Friday.

Anthony Federline, 39, was arrested on a warrant Thursday. He was charged with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child.

While police confirmed the victim of the alleged sexual assault was a 12-year-old living at that address, they could not confirm the child’s identity.

Enfield police said Thursday they are working with the office of the chief medical examiner to determine the cause of death for Eve Rogers.

Enfield Police Chief Alaric Fox said Rogers was found unresponsive at Elm Street around 10:25 on Wednesday morning. She lived there, and her immediate family was present at the time.

The chief told News 8 that crews had to get a search warrant for the home. The Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime Squad also assisted with the investigation.

Eve Elizabeth Rogers, age 12, passed away on March 18, 2026. She was born on August 31, 2013, and in her twelve years, she brought a depth of love, awareness, and spirit that many never reach in a lifetime.

Eve was the beloved daughter of Melanie Federline and Anthony Federline, and the biological daughter of Robert Rogers. She was a cherished sister to Dominick, Jayden, Maxwell, Jaxx, and Claire, and a deeply loved granddaughter of Elizabeth and Mark D. Gray. She is also survived by a wide and loving circle of family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

Eve was not a quiet presence in this world. She felt deeply, loved fiercely, and saw things in a way that made people stop and think. She had a passion for animals, especially cats, and a heart that extended far beyond herself. She cared about justice, about people, about the world as a whole. She stood up for what she believed in, even at a young age, and carried a sense of empathy that was both powerful and rare.

She loved color in all its forms, especially pink, teal, black, purple, and rainbow. She embraced both softness and edge, beauty and intensity, light and shadow. She was uniquely herself, unapologetically, and she gave others permission to be the same.

Eve was wise beyond her years. She asked big questions, felt big emotions, and held a deep understanding of the world around her. She loved deeply and openly, and the impact of that love will continue to ripple outward in the lives of those who knew her.

She was, and always will be, unforgettable.

Eve’s life reminds us to care more deeply, to stand more firmly in what we believe, and to love without holding back.

She is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm followed by a service, at the New Day Church, 1551 King St. Enfield.

Suspect's FB Page

can't/won't link it here but a family friend opened a G F M page for the mother and stepfather, to raise money for funeral expenses and so the couple could take time off work to grieve. Burns my chaps, like what exactly is there for the accused to grieve? The fact that his built in SA victim is now dead and unavailable to serve in that role anymore? grr

The 12-year-old girl, later identified as Eve Rogers, was found lying on the floor of her bedroom, facing the ceiling of the room. She had a blanket covering the lower half of her body. The arrest warrant stated she also had blood coming from her nose.

Federline stated that the girl was diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), was autistic and was in the process of being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, according to the arrest warrant. Federline was overcome with emotion and appeared to be angry, according to the arrest warrant.

Detectives at the scene did not interview Federline, as he asked for space because he “wanted to break things,” according to the warrant.

Roger’s mother said she was last seen the night before, around 10 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. She stated she was in her room with the door locked, which was not unusual. When she went to wake up her daughter the next morning around 10 a.m., she grew worried when she received no response, the arrest warrant states.

She used a butter knife to open the door, where she found her daughter lying face down on the floor. She turned her over, thinking she was still asleep, according to the warrant, and ran to her husband for help when she saw her face.

According to the arrest warrant, two pills were found on the floor near the door in Roger’s bedroom. There was another pill that appeared to be Aspirin on her desk. She had YouTube open on a laptop in her bedroom.

A sexual assault kit was performed on Rogers prior to her autopsy, which found Federline to be one of the “contributors” from a DNA swab, the arrest warrant states
.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is investigating the cause and manner of Roger’s death, pending the toxicology results, police said.

Federline was also employed as a school bus driver for Smyth Bus Company, the Enfield Public Schools’ contracted provider of student transportation services, at the time of the alleged assault. He has been terminated from his position, according to the Enfield Public Schools superintendent

Beautiful tribute to Eve in her obituary, I'm glad to see it has been updated to remove Federline's name now.

I wonder if her door was lockable from both sides?

Has anyone found the actual arrest warrant affidavit?
Getting bits & pieces from various news outlets however, no one's including the affidavit in their articles.
I live in CT & have been following this case since March 18th, when this lil homeschooled girl was discovered deceased. There were red flags from the beginning so this arrest doesn't come as a surprise. I suspect murder charges will be coming soon after the COD & toxicology report comes back.

ENFIELD — The wife of a man charged with sexually assaulting his 12-year-old stepdaughter, who was found dead in the family's home last month, said Sunday that she was surprised by the allegations against her husband.
"I was not aware of any of these allegations, and I’m still trying to understand what’s happening. I'm allowing the legal process to unfold," Melanie Federline said of the arrest last week of Anthony Federline, 39, on charges of first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child.

"I’m taking this very seriously and cooperating fully," Melanie Federline said. "Right now, my priority is my children and their well-being, and I’m asking for privacy as we navigate this process."

Federline was being held on a $1 million bond and was scheduled to be arraigned at state Superior Court in Hartford Monday, police said

"She ,"used a butter knife" to open the door". Wondering if the stepfather "used a butter knife" to open the door also. 🤔

wait, whaa? Please someone talk me down, does this indicate there were multiple contributors??
It is possible that the only other contributor was this sexually assaulted/murdered girl. I guess we will see once the full reports are released.

It's also possible that if there is another DNA profile, it was transfer from a sexual partner the perpetrator had intercourse with shortly before he assaulted the child. If he didn't wash, he could have still had their DNA on his genitals, which could then end up on or in the victim.

MOO

So sad that she was being diagnosed with bi-polar disorder when her only "personality problem" was being sexually assaulted by her step-father. I hate that abused kids are being misdiagnosed with mental illness.

The DM article is confusing. First it reads:

Melanie pried open the lock with a butter knife and found Eve unconscious with a blanket over her lap and her laptop open to YouTube

and the later states:

Eve's mother found her face-down on her bedroom floor with a blanket around her lap

my question is, how is there a blanket over her lap if she is lying facedown? She doesn't have a lap when lying facedown and wouldn't that then be described as a blanket draped over her lower half or lower extremities?

Poor thing, I'll just bet it was her regular practice to sleep with her door locked. :( Not that it stopped her mother (or probably her stepfather) from being able to pop the lock with a butter knife.

Federline pleaded not guilty to the charges.

A judge kept his bond at the previously issued $1 million. His public defender tried unsuccessfully to lower the bond to $500,000.

It was revealed in court on Monday by prosecutors that the girl had been sexually assaulted and that Federline’s semen was found near her genital area. Prosecutors said the DNA was almost an exact match to Federline.

Federline was also a school bus driver contracted for Enfield Public Schools through Smyth Bus Company. He has since been fired.

It came out in court that Federline has criminal charges from Massachusetts dating back to 2007 for firearm violations and probation violations.

Federline is not charged with his stepdaughter’s death at this time. Police said they are still investigating.

He is due back in court on May 5.

Wait... More spiralling... What does "almost an exact match" mean re: step dad's dna??? Could the assault be by a stepbrother??? Ugh! No, that's not right - a biological child would only match dad 50%. " Amost" would have to mean a biological brother of the stepdad. Oy!

  • #18
not necessarily. Don't spiral. DNA matching is not an exact science. at least as I understand it. Similar to testing for DNA parentage, nothing will ever reveal a 100% match because in order to do so the tester would need to be able to run it against literally every human on earth. This is why paternity tests are never 100%. The closest they can say with certainty is 99.9%

A newly released search warrant said that investigators "have probable cause to believe that evidence of the crime of Murder 53a-54a, Sexual Assault in the first degree 53a-70, and Risk of Injury to a Minor 53-21," will be found in this investigation. Federline has not been formally charged with murder…

The cause of the 12-year-old's death is still under investigation by the Office of the Chief Medical Investigator and the toxicology report could take weeks.
