Looks like he had a history of trouble with the law if this is the same Gil Leite. The year of age matches.

He was Portuguese by birth. Full name is Gil Demelo Leite, born 19 June 1931. This is from the US Social Security Index on Ancestry where other details correspond to his missing date of December 1968 (listed as his death date) and location of Bloomfield. Demelo is his mothers maiden name and the full name concatenates father and mothers names as is common in Mediterranean countries. I think he was married to someone called Agnes and there is a divorce record from 1978. The divorce record confirms location as Bloomfield but, interestingly, gives the marriage state as foreign - so presumably they married abroad (in May 1957) despite the wife being born in Connecticut. It also confirms the separation date as December 1968.

All this does not answer where he went, but it may open the possibility he went abroad.

I went looking for a missing person in the NamUs database who visually corresponds to the Bronx, NY Unidentified. Specifically, I was looking for wavy hair, and the UID's eyebrow growth, when I found Gil Leite on the last page of my nationwide search. They share wavy hair, eyebrows, eyebrow spacing, chin, facial structure, and are ~95 miles apart. I don't find anything extraordinarily different when considering the visual age difference between the two photos. The case profiles align fairly well, however, Leite should have a scar on his left forearm that wasn't found by the UID's medical examiner.

Leite went missing at the end of 1968, and the UID was found 23 years later.
