Wow. This is going to take me a moment to wrap my mind around.

She posted a substantial amount of money for him, with the promise to put up more. But his bond package was considered inadequate and fraudulent so an emergency hearing was called.

So, while the woman who put up so much money for him was at his house (or at the store), he committed suicide?! And she was left to discover this in shocking way.

So I’m curious does CT have a statute on next of kin and health care directives if there are no estate documents? We have a health care surrogate where you designate in advance who makes those decisions when you are incapacitated including who is allowed access etc? did FD update his or is JFD his designated person and secondarily who? Ours generally are local people because decisions may be made quickly - who is acting for FD now? His attorney? Does he have documents ? What if GF is his secondary???? It’s not uncommon for married people to name a living parent as back up - if FD never updated his estate plan - wouldn’t that be karma at its finest if GF is his secondary ?
