Connecticut says that any case in which the accused dies before the car is over is “moot” (essentially pointless) if continuing the case will have no practical effect. In this case: you can’t punish a dead man and you can’t free a dead man so what’s the practical reason to go on?

Now that Fotis is dead and NP is no longer representing him in his murder trial, what happens with the gag order? Can NP spew whatever he wants now?
You missed the PSA. NP is still going to represent him posthumously!

  • #1,044
NP was looking forward to this trial and all the grandstanding he planned to do. This was his ticket to fame. He was milking it every chance he could. He has to figure out how to keep the fame train going. It's pretty clear that after he took down the memorial, someone needed to lock FD up -- that kind of rage against the mother of his children, that inability to even see her remembered, was a clear indication he was a danger to himself and/or others. Yes, Norm, you missed something. You mussed your client's rage, his delusional state, his murderous pathology -- you missed what was obvious to everyone else but you. You are not a defender of the underdog, you are an apologist for scum of the earth. You live in a shadow world, you have everything inverted -- you are no hero protecting the innocent, you are a villain exculpating the hideously guilty.

FD was supposed to testify too. Lots of problems with this situation, IMO

If FD had evidence of innocence he would have stated it.
MOO FD is spinning NP telling him we can get you off with a hung jury, to say NP has evidence that will clear him.

Urso: “As much as I would love to hear Fotis’ ‘estate’ explain why he was dumping his wife’s bloody clothes in Hartford the night she disappeared, it’s a fantasy. Maybe the state can substitute whomever receives Fotis’ organs. As in life, Fotis Dulos took the coward’s way out.

I agree 1,000%! They are charismatic, outgoing to a fault, can come up with a story (lie) in a second, and fool the smartest people in most professions. A judge with years on the bench, may be the one profession they can’t con.

Nope, they con them, too.

The world never got to hear his story, he made sure of that !

Fotis Dulos pronounced dead; Attorney Norm Pattis says his death was ‘not an admission of guilt’

“To those who contend that Mr. Dulos’ death reflects a consciousness of guilt, we say no.

We say it was more a conscience overborne with the weight of a world that was too busy to listen and that wanted a story more than it wanted the truth.”

No norm... we never wanted the story of a wonderful mother killed by her psychopath husband

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that FD "accidentally" bumped into his new gf at an airport. Right before May 24th. Sorry, MT, you were a tool. FD had big plans. That didn't include you

I am sick that this is where we are.

All made worse because NP has no shame.

FD damaged everything he touched.

Jennifer, we're all just so, so sorry.

JMO

BBM - What would a desperate insecure woman do if she felt her livelihood and man were withdrawing from her?? MT may have sensed something was on the horizon and in order to keep FD she sacrificed everything to save that relationship. We've asked why would she go along with this, why jeopardize losing her child, etc... I think she realized her days were numbered, she felt threatened and did what she could to save it. Crazy but explains her actions - she was losing him.

I would think his organs would be too compromised from the poisoning ? But as SkyarSid mentioned they can go to science.

Connecticut does not appear to recognize the abatement doctrine. State v. Raffone, 161 Conn. 117 (1971). The Connecticut Supreme Court has declared as moot controversies during which the defendant dies. State v. Trantolo, 209 Conn. 169 (1988).

Aaron Keller added,

Attorney Matthew Maddox had this to say: "This is Norm Barnum trying to keep the greatest show on earth going." He too said it's not going to happen and added, "No one can write a clean slate chapter in order to sanitize Mr. Dulos' history for posterity." @News12CT

NP knows this. FD's family likely insisted his name be cleared, so as long as they pay him, he'll file the motion.

Gallows Fantasies??...But I have a vision of NP question a life-sized photo of Fd in the witness chair and running around behind the chair to answer. I can' quite imagine the cross examination yet...Such nonsense. Maybe promises to a grieving family are forgiven on the way to heaven. Hope Norm checked before he promised.

So if Pattis were to ever miraculously succeed in keeping the case alive there’d be a murder trial not only without the body of the victim but also without the body of a defendant.

But what is lost, IMO is that Fotis has preordained this in his suicide note.
He has shackled Norm.
Left him no way out in the public eye.
In death he has tethered him.
How could Norm walk away from this?
He has no choice.
Fotis has got him.
MOO.
