Still Missing CT - Jennifer Dulos, 50, New Canaan, 24 May 2019 *ARRESTS* #58

I was so hoping for an intelligent jury given the upscale area drawn for the jury pool. The Court has entered its second exhibit on Day 6. Day 6 hasn't had a question asked of the witness yet. I doubt the jurors are fretting much. One never knows about juries. Seems some jurors may have known Jennifer's case was discussed on social media.

Wonder why the juror would mention the movie Gone Girl? Jennifer didn't fake killing herself in her own garage that fateful day in May. Can't sweet justice get a break!

Perhaps I misunderstood when the judge read the note but I took it as the juror told the others that he/she remembered at the time JD disappeared her disappearance was referred to as gone girl on social media. And the other jurors said shut up...don't talk about it.

Will JS actually question the jurors? I assumed that would all be on the judge. If he does and they retain this jury then that would sure tally up the dislike for him I would imagine!

Regarding sequestering a jury. Can that be done after a week of trial. When these jurors went thru the process
that was not part of their bargain. For some, if not all it may be a hardship to be sequestered for a six week ish period. If that is the case, that would then leave us with a whole new tiral down the road?
Just thinking out loud. Hate that we are dealing with this,it has to be nerve wracking for Jennifer's family and loved ones.
These two jurors have shown no respect for the victim. And they have shown no respect for the court and their fellow jurors. JMO

Worse. If there's a mistrial, MT already shed her ankle bling. JS can start all over with media bluster plus motions to move the trial, to delay, delay, delay....

MT's best chance for freedom is on this side of trial and/or retrial. Delays are to her benefit.

I hope this rogue juror did not infect the entire jury.

He may have to sequester them, from both the media and each other.

Justice is on trial here.

Driving her relatives to airports--out of state? Needs permission of court?

We are not in the courtroom so I can't speak to what that juror was talking about. Hopefully we'll get an explanation when we're allowed back

A sidebar from me on this: Last night, I finished the Netflix docuseries, "American Nightmare." It's been ALL over social media. The case featured in it was referred to in the media as the "Gone Girl Case."

@sassyblue - i think that is what they are trying to figure out now. The note was not sterling clear - so they need to ferret out what occurred is my sense from the proceedings. I guess we will find out soon enough. jmo

Ohhhhhh

I wonder.

I was unable to transcribe fast enough and surely botched even the gist of it. I hope a reporter from inside the courtroom will rescue me so we can look at it in full.

What's worse: one juror going rogue on social media or one juror discussing the case in the jury room?

It's all bad.

I wondered how the letter writer would know what another juror is doing on social media. Your impression/explanation, @sassyblue, makes a great deal of sense.

Is staying in the state of Connecticut still required? According to this article, the only non-financial condition of her release (besides surrender of her passport) is that she cannot contact KM:

I'd assign the juror latrine duty. Clean the restrooms used by the remaining jurors (when they are not present) until deliberation is finished and a verdict delivered. If they are sequestered, then that latrine duty extends to the restrooms at the hotel where they are sequestered (and when they are not present).
Put them in jail. No questions, just march them off. That will send clear message that judge is not messing around.

I feel for the juror who wrote the note. That juror will be outed, not necessarily publicly but among the peer jury. Narc.

I hope the Judge upholds the juror for the brave act of intergity.

Back on the record?

Judge is going to outline the process on the record.

The sixth day of the trial for Michelle Troconis resumed briefly Friday morning at Stamford Superior Court before the jury was quickly asked to leave the courtroom after Judge Kevin A. Randolph received an unsigned note from a juror.

The note alleged that one member of the jury was talking about the case and mentioned the novel and movie “Gone Girl.”

The Gillian Flynn novel and film starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike follows the plot of a woman who fakes her own disappearance and her husband becomes a suspect.

A court marshal handed Randolph a note from a juror that reportedly said: “One of the jurors discussed something about the case and it was all over social media.”

“Said it was like ‘Gone Girl,” the note continued. “A brief mention. Several other jurors said ‘Don’t discuss this.'”

The court has identified the juror who allegedly made the comment and plans to question the entire jury about the comments and their potential influence.

Randolph, and attorneys through Randolph, are going to question the juror who allegedly made the comment and the juror who wrote the note. Then they will question every juror to ask if they were “in any way influenced by the comment.”

Randolph said the court will ask “whether they can continue to be fair and impartial” and if they can “continue to listen to the evidence with an open mind.”

Fotis Dulos’ former attorney Norm Pattis had previously alleged that Jennifer Farber Dulos faked her disappearance, prompting Flynn to criticize the theory.

A movie produced by Lifetime based on the Dulos case was titled “Gone Mom.”

A newly released Netflix show based on another case called “American Nightmare” has also brought forth “Gone Girl” theories. The show, now trending on Netflix, follows the true story of a couple accused of staging a kidnapping.

Nope. She is free as a bird courtesy of the state of Corrupticut. She imo needs bracelet now as she is a flight risk now and has been from the beginning. She has no ties to jurisdiction.

Juror # 186 Good bye. So long. Farewell.

Transcript of the questioning will be available on MON.

Judge has met with counsel. To determine whether one or two jurors need to be dismissed.

Transcript, redacted for names, will be made available.

Judge has interviewed the writer and to the juror who made the statement. Juror 186.

Judge impressed upon the juror how that Gone Girl reference may impact other jurors to hear evidence differently.

Judge dismissed Juror 186.

The remaining jurors were questioned and each indicated they could remain impartial to both sides.

All jurors agreed that they can refrain from social media.

Judge reasserts open courtroom and that the transcript will be made available.

We're back in session.

I truly don’t see how there is a way forward if this juror spoke with other jurors. Think mistrial might be only way to start from scratch. Too much taint possibly now imo to think justice is possible. I hope the juror is charged and taken to jail now!
