It is possible, for sure. But she described herself as “dominant”, and she went after him, and threw the phone, when she accidentally found out he had been at Jennifer’s house. Not something typucally done by somebody who is afraid of that person, but who knows? Sounds to me as if he was afraid of her, too, if he couldn’t tell her that he ended up having dinner at Jennifer’s.
Hmmm.
Maybe Fotis accused her of being "dominant," because she called him out on a lie. Maybe the dynamic was such that he could see Jennifer without talking to Michelle about it first and she was not allowed to be upset with it.
Maybe that she was trying to say that she learned that he secretly saw his wife and that upset her caused the known abuser to rankle because he doesn't like having to explain himself.
Maybe when he was not allowing her to express herself. she got frustrated and threw the phone.
Maybe he greatly preferred her throwing the phone to continuing to talk about his secretiveness because it changed the subject to her behavior. Very successfully, indeed, as she reported THAT with the emphasis, not Fotis's disloyal behaviors towards her.
As an added benefit to Fotis, she begins to look "crazy." In the future, had the relationship continued, I'm certain Fotis would have found himself a mental health professional willing to highlight this "symptom."
Who had the power and control in this relationship? I think it is quite clear that Fotis was developing more and more control of her over the years. She could throw all the phones she wanted- it just gives him a chance to call her irrational. But Fotis was unchecked in living a secret life.
Do I think that secret extended to Michelle being so unaware of the murder that she could not be a co-conspirator? It happens that I do not- innocent until proven guilty of course- but my opinion is she is a conspirator to the murder. Do I feel sorry for Michelle? Not really- because I believe she could have saved Jennifer's life, or at least helped locate the body and lock up Fotis ahead of his selfish exit. But just because I don't feel sorry for her does not mean she was not in an abusive relationship.
Fotis actually murdered Jennifer. You think Fotis suddenly decided he wanted to hook up with a peer, quit the abusing his partner thing?
One of the themes of this whole case is DV awareness. I think all the signs are present that Michelle Troconis, apparent accomplice to a murder, was in a coercive control relationship that was heading to physical violence towards her if she was being upfront about it not existing yet.
I'm not sure why this is controversial. It could be a little mitigating if she had said so earlier. At this point, she has burned that bridge IMO. But it doesn't change her guilt. Fotis was arrested. Police were enforcing keeping him away. She could have requested more assurances for her safety, like an OOP. But she chose not to. She decided to engage in many deceptive ploys, such as following the alibi script, messing with PG's car keys, and bringing the Tacoma for detailing. DV victims sometimes do bad things like that, and they have to be held accountable just like people in healthy relationships.
