2 door, extended cab, silver rims

New Canaan rest stop. Zoomed but not enhanced.

Were you able to determine who was driving this truck? How many people are in the truck? No

Did you see any black Raptors? I saw a lot. But none that I could determine as consistent with vehicle he was searching. Took screen shots to zoom in but could not make a comparison.

Redirect

State asks recalls questions about the license plates, the driver...

She asks what's in the trunk.

Objection. Sustained.

State's witness, Officer Kelly Coughlin, NCPD

Given an assignment to review video from NC school busses. Reviewed footage from 11 busses. Two different black Suburban, one black Raptor, one white Cherokee and one red Tacoma, with a chrome bumper, chrome running board

Identified vehicle consistent with the red Tacoma on two busses.

One on the southbound on Lapham, parked in a cut out at 7:05. Was not there at 7:03. Next visible at 7:40. No busses video available between those times. [I'm not sure I have the gives correct.]

State is going to show bus video but it shows children on the bus, identifiable. Asking the cameras to be turned off. Judge explains to the jury. Request granted.

Witness describes views, two interior cameras and one exterior camera facing south. Witness identifies a red truck consistent with the characteristics of.... three clips visible in the same spot...

Cross.

Did you see license plates? No. Did you enhance them or did anyone else? Did you or anyone else see oll? No

Heavily tracked road? Yes. In plain sight? Yes

Afternoon recess until 3:35.

Does the defense keep asking if anyone tried to "enhance" videos to play on the entertainment idea that LE can magically clarify, sharpen, and find crazy hidden things in videos because of police procedural shows? To make the jury think the state didn't do their due diligence or something with technology that doesn't actually work that way?

Can't wait to see how annoyed Ventresca gets with JS if he does cross. Was it today or yesterday that he referred to his head as a bowling ball?

Yes, unfortunately. The state could get ahead of this by asking first and clarifying that there is not way to enhance the screenshots. IMO

State raising a separate issues. He's calling a witness whose action was based on executing the search warrant. He doesn't want to create issues regarding probable cause.

Judge says it's okay to say they were pursuant to a search warrant.

JS pops up again, saying the search warrant is full of inaccuracies and if the State brings up the SW, it's an open door.

State offers which questions will be asked.
Argues against the Defense's representation that the AW contained falsehoods. That's already been litigated.

Judge is not going to relitigate probable cause. Frank's hearing, already heard and decided.

Now JS is arguing under completion -- that the State is going to show three second clips showing a red truck, but JS has watched ten minutes of video and seen many red trucks. He wants the State to play all the video.

Judge rules can JS can address the probative value of the video through cross.
This sweeping generalization keeps getting repeated by TP and he won’t say what it is (first one was the honest mistake issue with 30 stops). His issue is a nothing burger imo and his commentary is distracting to the proceedings and is undermining credibility of Judge R imo too which is unacceptable.

I wish judge or state would put a stake through this ongoing stmt which is being said to taint the proceedings and he has now been repeating this one for years! He even does it when he is just with attorney group on zoom.

Imo it makes him look desperate and simply stupid.

What a clown….wish he would simply pack up the tent and go back to Hartford as perhaps the courts up there appreciate his putz routine but I’m simply DONE!

She pounced brilliantly like a panther when the defence attorney made the error on redirect and the defence atty was sadly saved from her huge error by Judge R.

That error door was swung wide open like a big barn door imo and I so looked forward to next line of questioning from atty manning!

State recalls Sgt Vantreska

Witness says investigation moved to NC. Gave an assignment to Lebeau to look for the Suburban, Raptor, Cherokee and Tacoma.

Only the Tacoma was not seized at that point.

Had an approximate time for a vehicle consistent with a Tacoma.

Went to Valley Transit Station to look at cameras. Reviewed it for a specific time frame -- 15 to 20 minutes -- observed vehicle consistent with PG's red Tacoma.

Objection over witness' opinion of who owns it, Judge says there's already evidence about who owns the Tacoma, overruled

Voir dire, JS asks if he looked at any other red trucks during other times, no. He explains how they had the puzzle piece of a "red Tacoma consistent with" at 80 MS and again at the pull out near Waveny so they had a specific window for expecting the red truck.

Seeing a clip of a video from VTS. Red truck without the characteristics of the red Tacoma.

Another red truck. This one has a chrome bumper, chrome running board, extended cab.

State asks about a red truck in the VTS parking lot. Not a Tacoma. Ford based on the grill.

Vehicle consistent with a red Tacoma at 11:40.

State shows video from 77 MS, showing a red pick up at 5:35.

Used that video to establish a timeline, speed, time traveled.

Witness drove that route. 40 minutes.

Witness also sees a vehicle consistent with a red Tacoma at 12:22 at 80 MS.

Same vehicle seen pulling out from 80 MS at 5:27. Following a black Chevy Suburban with a Thule on top.

Like a dog with a bone, JS will NOT GIVE UP on the "wet" pavement and now mulch in the Manafort driveway.

JS on Cross

JS asks if he received communication from Trooper Lebeau about the other vehicles --

JS asks if anyone spent time searching for black Suburban, black Raptor or a white Cherokee on video at VTS. No, just the red Tacoma.

Asks if they looked for those vehicles because PG drove those vehicles.

JS asks if there's a reason the vehicle the truck appears purple? Witness says it looks red to him.

JS is testifying that the Toyota Tacoma has stayed very consistent over 20 years. Witness says there are subtle differences but he's need to see an image of a particular year.

Asks if the license plate was visible. Interior, who was driving. Extended cab, who might be in it.

JS shows 77 MS midday, asks witness to identify a dark truck.

Then shows a still from earlier, asks about the roof, mulch, and driveway. Asks witness if it appears wet. Witness concedes second photo is lighter, cannot determine whether it's wet.

Objection, outside the scope. Overruled.

JS: Sun is low in the horizon, noon is a lighter time of day.

State, redirect.

Lebeau identified a black Raptor but they didn't follow up on it because they knew where the Raptor was.

Witness was able to obtain the BURLA on the black Raptor so they knew where that vehicle was.

No BURLA for the Tacoma. Older vehicle.

Re-cross -- JS stumbled over Onstar vs Burla

Adjourned.

Did they point out the the black Chevy Suburban with the thule?
I don't think so?

Did anyone else hear Manning stumble over her words talking about witnesses for tomorrow? I swear she started to say "big witness," but stopped herself and changed her phrasing. Is there a chance we get PG tomorrow???
