:sigh: I detest verdict watch. but I need them to do the right thing and do it well.

2goldfish, it can be frustrating. Especially since we have no idea what is being discussed / debated. I don't feel to anxious about this one though. From the couple of questions that came out yesterday, it seems the jury is being methodical and fairly well organized (asking for copies of the charge, etc).

The reason the Anthony jury blew it is because they did NOT follow the jury instructions. Given the short amount of time they were out, I'd be surprised if they even went through them.

Twitter reporters in the court seem to be anxious that this is taking longer than expected. I suspect the jury is just dragging it out so they can get a free lunch.

According to this article:

The jurors knocked on the door three times during their first day of deliberations. They asked for additional copies of the jury charge instructions and whether they could leave their notebooks and blackboard notes in the room after they left for the day.

They also asked a question about the charges. It read: "When giving the verdict, do we need to specify if we have found him guilty as a principal or an accessory?"

Can I take this as a potential good sign that there may be some Guilty verdicts soon?

keep coming back for Jury watch. No way could I find him not guilty on every charge. And, like many others I think he was mastermind--Hayes was the dumb sheep (follower).

BBM. I would have thought that too, but before the Casey Anthony jury debacle. I have no faith in juries at this moment. It's not out of the realm of possibilities that he may yet walk. Again before the Casey Anthony verdict I would have never thought such a thing.

Jury will break for lunch and resume deliberations after lunch. And I thought the deliberations would be fairly quick. I guess all things considered, they still havent really deliberated that long.

At least in this case there is actual video footage of JK fleeing the scene while the house is burning, in the Petit's stolen car and than crashing said vehicle into a cop car and whtever else he hit. No doubt he was at the scene. Just trying to be cynical about the CA jury!!!!!

Not even Hayes was found guilyt on all counts. It would appear that this jury likely believed JK was the leader and thus responsible. Of particular note, he was found guilty of the murder of Jennifer Petit and the arson charge.

as I expected, and I think the defence know they have little chance of him not getting the DP as in my opinion the jury signalled its opinion of JK by finding him guilty of all the charges and they are in no mood to give him LWOP

Defense will have a week and a half to tweek its strategy for the penalty phase. Clearly the jury didnt buy any of the defense argument in the guilt phase. I think if the defense tries to attack Dr. Petit or police/firefighters in the mitigation phase its just going to cause the jury to tune out.

Well I for one am anxiously awaiting the outcome of this. If there was ever a case that cried out for justice, this would be it.
People should be able to go to sleep in their own home at night and be safe.
Several years ago I did jury duty for a home invasion case where things were stolen, but thankfully-- no one was hurt.
The defense made a big deal about how the perp. found the front door 'unlocked', while the family was inside, asleep at 2am. I sat there thinking , "So what?". Even if you should be at home with the door wide open, no one has the right to enter without permission.

LietKynes, I am also particularly sensitive to home invasion type cases. As you said, people should be safe in their homes. The decision to invade a person's home, while they are there, and especially at night, is just such a violation of all that a society considers to be civilized behavior. It also usually evidences a very very dark and heinous soul. For frequenly such crimes result in torture, rape, and murder.

beautifully expressed by the preceeding posters!!!!! Two young girls should be safe in their own beds. This case has haunted me----this could be my family. Praise this jury for their efforts.

although I guess the defense had so little to work with. But, to combine the attempt at sympathy for the childhood/abuse etc of JK with the attempt to pin blame on the responders and victims could have soured the jury already and helped them conclude this was further evidence of the extent of the depravity involved here, which IMO was extreme. It's one thing to come in and plead for mercy and argue you tried to prevent deaths (even without any evidence of such) and weren't the ringleader and whatever other self serving tripe you can come up with and leave it at that. But to impugn the victims here was really beyond the pale.

I think it is murder, it is the taking of a persons life at the hand of another, to me that is murder,

I call it the consequence for him taking 3 lives.
