Police are trying to locate a 3-year-old boy missing from Putnam.

Authorities have issued a Silver Alert for 3-year-old Malakai Tucker, who is believed to be with his mother Christina Samples.

Tucker is 3-foot, 30 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
Police believe Tucker and his mother may be traveling to Tennessee, possibly in a 2002 blue Hyundai Sonata, with Tennessee license plate BFF414.

The Silver Alert is confusing to me- why not issue an Amber Alert in this case?

This is the criteria for a Silver Alert:

For a Silver Alert to be issued, the following criteria must be met:

  • Missing individual is driving a car or lost on foot, and
  • Missing person is 60 years or older, and
  • There is a clear indication that the individual has an irreversible deterioration of intellectual faculties (i.e., Alzheimer’s disease). This must be verified by law enforcement.
OR

  • Missing individual is driving a car or lost on foot, and
  • Missing person is 18 to 59 years of age, and
  • Missing person has irreversible deterioration of intellectual faculties and
  • Use of dynamic message signs may be the only way to rescue the missing person.

I forgot to add, I hope that they find the little guy safe and sound soon! There isn't much information yet about why it's worrisome that he's with his mother- hopefully she's not abusive.

I was wondering the same thing. This article says Silver Alerts are issued by law enforcement agencies for missing people of all ages. Hmm. Didn't know that.

The vehicle is 16 years old. I wonder what kind of shape it's in? @chihuahua, we need you to get the truckers on this! It's about 16 1/2 hours from Putnam, CT to Tennessee. They will have to stop somewhere.
Google Maps

Hoping to hear they are found when I get here tomorrow morning.

I am wondering if a Silver Alert was issued for this little guy because he wasn't abducted (i.e. failing to meet the criteria of an Amber Alert)?

ETA: Here is an article regarding a 13 year old in CT from 2017 that started as an Amber Alert and was changed to Silver Alert.

Thank you, that's helpful. So, he hasn't been abducted and they don't think he's in danger. He's just missing from where he is supposed to be. Which is...?

I hope the lack of attention on this is a good sign... but I wish I could find more information.
This little dude is the same name, age, weight and height as my little dude. Very close to home.
