The autopsy report says Torres-Garcia had amphetamines in her system at the time of her death — drugs she was never prescribed, according to the medical examiner’s findings. Amphetamines are found in some prescription medications as well as illicit drugs. The medical examiner also noted the presence of an antihistamine.

According to the autopsy report, there was a single blueberry in the child’s stomach.

The medical examiner noted Torres-Garcia was 4’8” and weighed just 27 pounds. There were no signs of recent fractures or major trauma, but the report cited severe muscle atrophy and almost no body fat — findings consistent with prolonged starvation.

I don't know that I have ever read anything as sad as that single blueberry :(

Same. It's somehow thousands times worse than an empty stomach.

A lonely blueberry.

That poor child.

The woman testified she had no idea that Mimi was already dead at the time of the call.

She told the court that Karla was present during the Zoom meeting and provided her with information about the other children in the home in case DCF asked questions.

The woman said Karla told her that Mimi was living with an aunt in another state.

During the call, the woman testified that DCF asked how school was going and how often she spoke with her mother. She said she told DCF she Facetimed with Karla every day, had friends and was doing well in school.

The woman also testified that when news later broke that Mimi Torres-Garcia was dead, she Facetimed with Karla again. She said Karla told her that Jonatan Nanita killed Mimi and threatened to kill Karla and the other children if she said anything.

A DCF spokesperson told NBC Connecticut they have no further comment.

The probable cause hearing will continue on Thursday.

Karla Garcia will be back in court on Friday, along with Mimi's aunt, Jackelyn Garcia, who is also charged in connection with the case.
