'They Build Jails For People Like You,' Judge Tells Robert Graham Before Sentencing Him To Life
A career criminal with a horrific record of violence against women was sentenced Thursday to life in prison for the 2015 killing of Tashauna Jackson, a 23-year-old mother from Hartford.
Hartford Superior Court Judge David P. Gold told Robert Graham that his crime was despicable, cowardly, gruesome, unfeeling and uncaring, and he noted that he typically spends a lot of time explaining the sentences he imposes. But in Grahams case, a long explanation was not necessary, the judge said. Deterrence and rehabilitation were not considerations, Gold told Graham.
That leaves one final justification for punishment and that is we in our community are entitled to know that you will be isolated away from us, Gold told Graham. They build jails for people like you.
