Get ready for Casey Anthony II.

“According to a hearing this morning, it looks like the civil defamation suit against Casey Anthony is ready to head to trial in April,” WESH-Channel 2’s Amanda Ober reported at noon. But Ober cautioned other issues could derail an April start.

WKMG-Channel 6’s Mike DeForest reported that Anthony’s attorneys plan to file another motion to have the case thrown out. “They point out that, yes, Casey Anthony referenced a babysitter named Zenaida Gonzalez, but always referenced her as Zenaida Fernandez Gonzalez,” DeForest said. The woman suing Anthony doesn’t have the middle name Fernandez.

Gonzalez says her life was ruined when she was linked to the disappearance of Caylee Anthony. Casey Anthony was later acquitted of murder in her 2-year-old daughter’s death.

What can Orange County expect from another Anthony trial? “The court will be prepared for a high-profile case. ‘In Session’ has offered to serve as pool,” said Orange County Court spokeswoman Karen Levey.

In her report on WESH, Ober said: “Gonzalez’s attorneys said even if Casey Anthony doesn’t have any money to go after, it’s about a bigger issue.”

“What about accountability for what you did?” Gonzalez’s attorney Keith Mitnik told reporters.

House panel passes 'Caylee's law'

TALLAHASSEE — The House Judiciary Committee passed its version of Caylee’s Law Wednesday, a bill that would make it a third-degree felony to purposely give wrong information to law enforcement looking for a missing child who is 16-years-old or younger and that child is harmed or killed.

Rep. Jose Diaz, R-Miami, said he was surprised by a verdict this past summer in the Casey Anthony case, who faced murder charges in connection to the disappearance of her daughter Caylee

Legislative session is at midpoint

“Caylee Anthony’s Law” would require parents in Georgia to report their child’s disappearance or death in a timely manner. Under HB 974, adults or organizations responsible for children younger than 13 must maintain contact with those children. If the responsible adult has not been able to contact the child for 18 hours, the adult must report the child as missing.

The legislation would also require these individuals to report the death of a child within 12 hours. This bill is designed to penalize criminally negligent parents, and does not apply to parents who are simply unable to communicate with their child due to a situation where a child was away at a summer camp or another similar scenario.

Casey Anthony attorney Jose Baez drops his infamous client

Now, Baez said in his statement that it's time to move on: "My work as Ms. Anthony's defense attorney is finished. It's not my job to answer questions regarding non-legal matters relating to Ms. Anthony and I must attend to my other clients' needs."
Baez's statement itself adds to the intrigue. It noted both that he had formally filed a notice of withdrawal from Anthony and that his work was done upon her acquittal in July 2011. If that's the case, why was a statement necessary at all? Moreover, the statement seems terse, and doesn't even toss an obligatory "best of luck" line to Anthony.

But on closer reading, perhaps the statement does throw a bone to Anthony: It noted that she does not currently have a media agent and is not fielding or looking for any deals or offers relating to her story.

Isn't that like dangling catnip in front of the publishing industry? Time will tell.

Is Jose Baez lucky to be rid of 'toxic' Casey Anthony?

What to make of Baez’s departure?

Bill Sheaffer, who provides legal analysis for WFTV-Channel 9, said: “I think it’s probably the best thing that ever happened for him. He’s learning at a young age, even when you’re successful, clients are often not grateful. For his young career, his departure is a godsend. She’s just toxic.”

Do you agree?

Sheaffer adds: “I don’t believe she either listens or respects her attorneys’ advice. That’s evident for me from some things that happened in the trial and afterward. I believe she participated in the release of videos against her lawyers’ advice. She’s one of those clients that asks: ‘What have you done for me lately?’ ”

Sheaffer’s advice to Baez: “Put her behind you and savor the victory.”

Was ‘millionaire murderer’ convicted due to Casey Anthony?

Ward’s family believes the shooting was an accident resulting from a mixture of alcohol and prescription drugs. They believe the widespread outrage over the Anthony verdict influenced the jury in his case because it did not want to be seen in a similar light by acquitting Ward.
