WFTV-Channel 9 tonight bid farewell to legal analyst Bill Sheaffer, who announced he is running for circuit judge of Orange and Osceola counties. The primary is in August.
“What this means is because I’m actively campaigning, I’m not continuing with Channel 9,” Sheaffer said in an interview. “I don’t know if it’s the complete end of me being able to comment, but it is an end to my time with WFTV.”
Sheaffer logged four years with WFTV and became a familiar presence during the Casey Anthony coverage.

Two of the teens accused of murdering 15-year-old Seath Jackson learned they have a set trial date.
Kyle Hooper, 17 and his sister, 16-year-old Amber Wright made an appearance in Marion County court Wednesday afternoon.
The teens are being tried together but with separate juries.
Wednesday state prosecutors and the teens' attorneys decided the trial will begin on June fourth.
Meanwhile, TV20 has learned that their Co-defendant, Charlie Ely will be represented by a new attorney in her appeal.
He is Jose Baez, the same lawyer that represented Casey Anthony.
TV20 confirmed the news with court records today.

Baez was not available today for comment about why he signed on to the case

Chief Judge Belvin Perry Jr. talks about how media and worldwide attention can change the justice system in a WUCF TV interview next week.
In a clip, Perry says that “any publicity” for a case in a community makes it “very difficult to find a jury that has not been infected by what they have read or watched.”
Jurors these days have to be warned against going on the Internet, reading postings on Facebook and sending emails, Perry said. “And for God’s sake, don’t go in there researching things because they will do Google searches,” Perry adds

CARBONDALE -- The next high profile criminal case in Illinois could be tried in front of a camera. Eleven counties have applied so far to test out cameras in the courtroom, and the Illinois State Bar Association is all for the change.
Court cases that grabbed the nation's attention, like the O.J. Simpson trial and the Casey Anthony trial, did so thanks in part to cameras capturing every moment. Until recently, Illinois did not allow cameras in the courtrooms, but the Illinois Supreme Court has created a pilot program, making Illinois the 38th state to move toward a more public court system.

“I want her to apologize to my daughters, not even to me, to my daughters,” Gonzalez said in an interview that aired nationally today on “Dr. Phil.” “She’s hurt them so much. I don’t think she even knows how much she has hurt them.”
Gonzalez said her children had suffered depression over Anthony’s accusations.

The episode, called “The Real CSI,” airs at 10 p.m. next Tuesday, and it stresses that real forensics are quite different from what viewers see dramatized in prime time.
Here’s what “Frontline” had to say about the Anthony case: “Nowhere in recent history has forensic evidence been more prominent than in the trial of Casey Anthony, who was acquitted of the first-degree murder of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Anthony.
‘This case utilized every single type of forensic science. … They threw a bunch of stuff against the wall, and they were hoping something would stick, and none of it did,’ says defense lawyer Jose Baez.”

Notable spin in body case
William Rodriguez III, an expert on body decomposition, is expected to take the stand over the objections of defense attorneys .......
On Tuesday, Benn's attorney, Joseph Meany, told acting Supreme Court Justice Dan Lamont that Benn's acquittal on the tampering charge should prevent prosecutors from calling their expert witness.
**
Lamont said it was a "close call," but agreed to allow Rodriguez to testify against Benn. The judge noted the jury's acquittal of Benn on the tampering charge only meant jurors did not find him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, not that he did not dump the body.

NEW HAVEN (WWJ) – A New Haven woman has been sentenced to life in prison in the sexual assault and murder of her 2-year-old stepdaughter.
A Macomb County Circuit Court jury convicted 30-year-old Renee King of felony murder and child abuse in late February.
“We were so scared that what happened with Casey Anthony was gonna happen here. And the jurors made the right decision and gave Lily the justice that she deserved,” Furneaux said.
