Ryan Moats Talks With The FAN
http://www.1053thefan.com/pages/4090798.php

JC! That quote from this "officer's" wife's My Space page is disgusting and shows what unfeeling creeps these people are. The Dallas PD should be ashamed to even have this individual associated with their department.

And the "officer's" quote? Hold his head high?!?! He should be hiding it in the toilet...

All the more reason to sue them! And I hope he does. :croc:

How do you find her MySpace page or is it locked now?

The "Ryan Moats" link above that I quoted has the quotes from their My Space. I would think if you searched My Space they'd come up? Not too much of a My Space person myself...

We don't have to believe or disbelieve the media - there's video of your loser husband acting like a middle school bully with a gun!!!

Hmmm. interesting video.

Ok, so I have to take back the fleeing comments and the way they jumped out of the car. I think those were obvious enough that he wasn't trying to harm anyone. He did run a bunch of lights and stop signs. I understand the cop trying to get him to chill out, and I get Ryan's trying desparately to explain the situation. It is an unfortunate situation. Perhaps he should have let him go around minute 7 when he calmed down, but definately when they said she code blued. I can see both sides of the story.

What an unfortunate event for all involved.

After seeing the cop talking on CNN, can you still see both sides of the story? The cop saying "I can make your life difficult" is totally inappropriate for this situation. He ran the stop signs/lights at 20 mi with his lights flashing, hardly someone who needs chilling out and the cop wasn't trying to help him chill out with the comments he made.
This cop needs to find a different job, he's a tragedy waiting to happen.

Someone earlier posted on something the cop's wife allegedly said on her MySpace page, but I cannot find anything that tells us what she said. Anyone care to post a link to that? Thanks.

I have been looking and looking and looking! This is what I found.

Some people believe they have found Dallas police officer Robert Powell's MySpace page and they believe the comments on it are about the Ryan Moats fiasco.

The page is private and there's no real way to be sure it's THE Robert Powell that has become the focus of North Texas and the nation.

The message was simple:

"Blessed With Two Beautiful Children All I can do is HOLD MY HEAD UP HIGH n wait for this to blow over. Thanks to everyone standing behind me n helping me get through this. Love U Honey!!!!"

UPDATE: That paragraph is now gone, the page only shows a photo of a tattoo and no message other than it's a private page.

I'm still trying to find out about his wife's myspace.

'Everyone standing behind..."?
I haven't noted a hell of a lotta that either on this or any of the other boards discussing this case- it's almost totally on the Moats' side.
This cop will probably lose his job, then after an interval get hired by some other PD where he can follow his calling of harassing taxpayers.

Disgusting. This man NEEDS to be FIRED!

Wow. I was so ticked off about this, I had to come and see if there was a thread up to get my rants off my chest. It's utterly disgusting and just more proof of what happens when you give an idiot a badge and a gun. How much more could Mr. Moats have tried to explain himself to this cop? He was trying his best but the cop was too busy telling him he was gonna arrest him for running a red light that he wouldn't listen. There is NO EXCUSE WHATSOEVER for this type of behavior from a cop and I sincerely hope that the DPD does the right thing and gets rid of him. I can only hope that he never sees a time in his life when he is faced with the prospect of one of his family members dying and needing to get his family to the hospital. What goes around comes around!!!! I do applaud Mr. Moats, however, in his behavior in trying to deal with this idiot. He showed great restraint, much more than I could have.

If you follow the link in regards to Ryan Moats in post 16 of this thread it will take you to a radio station board. The link has an interview with Moats along with quotes from both the "officer" and his wife's My Space pages.

I read everything about this on the Dallas Morning News and watched the video. I found the officer to be so offensive and unprofessional--"Shut your mouth!"

There's always a bad apple in the bunch.

The nurse AND the hospital security officer came out to try and and defuse the situation and get the poor men inside with the family.

So sad because you can, as said, never get that time back. It's a permanent "what if" lack of closure and no one wants that with a loved one's passing.

I have no doubt this was racially motivated sorry to say.

That offcer has no business being a cop. His lack of judgment is dangerous.

  • #34
Yeah, I have to wonder what would have happened had Moats been a white man. I don't know that it was racially motivated, but you have to wonder. And I'm glad Moats didn't turn and leave - I'd be really afraid he would have been shot! So horrible. No this man does NOT need to be in law enforcement.

How often do police say if you are a woman alone on the road at night and are unsure if the "police" flashing you down is a real officer - slow down and drive with flashing lights to a public place. Moats had on flashing lights and did not appear to be doing 100 mph or even close.

What about the part on the video where the nurse came out & said she needed him to come in to sign for the woman to be resucitated since she was code blue & the cop STILL disregarded it & took SIX MORE MINUTES!!! WTF?

How can anyone justify this? At best the officer does not have the judgement skills, emotional balance or ability to follow mandated policy that is necessary to keep him employed in that line of work which relies on these skills being top notch.

  • #36
He refused to follow procedure in more than one instance. That alone is a problem & means he should at a minimum be disciplined and depending on the severity of his actions fired. Once again, this police officer has obvious emotional problems, not too mention a lack of judgement AND a demonstrated refusal to follow procedure. Any one of these things makes him unqualified to be a police officer. BTW HE DIDN'T CALL FOR BACKUP (which you seem to think he did) which makes his pulling a weapon even more suspect (and a violation of procedure).

I'm with the police on this 100%.

Criminal runs a red light, leads officer on pursuit, officer calls for backup, criminal finally pulls over after 1 minute in a parking lot. When questioned, driver does not have proof of insurance. Passanger jumps out of the vehicle, police officer pulls gun, passanger flees scene ignoring police orders.

Sorry, but i have no problem with the officer reacting the way he did.

When the other officer confirmed that she was going to see the dying mother, I have no problem with the officer saying that he was almost done. The lady was dying for a long time, 5 minutes usually doesn't make the difference. The officer still had the responsibility to go over everything with the guy and explain that even in such circumstances the law applies. The policeman should have also explained that a lot of people can get hurt if you intentionally flee from the police.

  • #37
Actually the police officer didn't even do that since he violated procedure.

This is what happens when people put on their work robot-mask and completely disconnect from what it's like to be a human among humans.

  • #38
Words can't even begin to describe how angry this makes me. We had an 1,100 mile drive to get to my dying mother (no money to fly) and to say we made it in a less than legal manner would be an understatement. Were we safe, heck yeah-but not nearly as cautious as this man was being.
As someone else said-those are precious moments he can never get back. I am amazed by the restraint he showed, because quite frankly-cop or not I would have decked the man when he handed him his d.l. back and said "It's all about attitude".
This man is an embarrassment to all LE and I hope he is treated as such. I normally don't like the way people are so sue-happy but I hope that Moats sues the living carp out of anyone he can, not for the money (it will never undue what has been done) but on principle.

Officer That Delayed Moats Once Jailed Zach Thomas’ Wife

Posted by Aaron Wilson on March 29, 2009, 11:21 a.m.
Robert Powell, the Dallas police officer who delayed Houston Texans running back Ryan Moats’ and his family while they were trying to get to the hospital to say goodbye to Moats’ mother-in-law on her deathbed, reportedly detained former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Zach Thomas’ wife on traffic violations last year for five hours.

“This in no way compares to what happened to Ryan Moats and his family,” Thomas told the Morning News. “But we wanted to tell our story, not knowing how many others have been affected by Officer Powell. We know the vast majority of the Dallas police force are good and professional people, but this guy just seems excessive.”
