STEARNS, Ky. (WVLT) - A Scott County family asked for help in the search for their loved one who has been missing since Saturday, June 18.

Darlene Chitwood was last seen at Big Blue Tires in Stearns, Kentucky.

”It’s been a nightmare,” said Chitwood’s daughter, Chelsey Daugherty.

Daugherty said her mother is diabetic and made a comment to the workers at Big Blue Tires that she thought her blood sugar was low.

Chitwood texted her sister around 6:30 p.m. saying her car broke down, she needed a ride, and that she was near station camp, a road that doesn’t exist in Stearns on Saturday night, the last time her family heard from her.

This communication with her aunt lead Daugherty to believe her mother was suffering from low blood sugar and confused as to where she was.

”Her sugars were out of wack so I’m thinking she might have had some, she might have been confused because you know if your sugars are real high or real low it causes some disturbances,” said Daugherty Thursday night.

The blonde hair, blue-eyed 50-year-old was last seen wearing a pink tank top and blue capris pants.

Daugherty said her mom was seen on security cameras walking by the water plant in Stearns, a furniture store, and someone said they saw her walk past the old log church just after 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

”We have no idea where she could possibly be from there so basically the last camera sighting was that furniture store,” said Daugherty. ”We’ve not heard nothing from her. Like our entire family has been out looking for her, people we did not know even knew her are out looking for her.”

”It may be nothing but it may be something to us,” said Daugherty.

There is Station Camp Rd, outside of Oneida, TN, just over the boarder in TN. There is not much out there other than a horse campground. From Stearns, KY to Station Camp Rd it is about 25 miles.

Attached is a screen shot of Stearns. The red pin is Big Blue Tires. You can see slightly southwest of that location where the water treatment plant is. Still a long way from Station Camp in Tennessee.

She has been missing for a week. It looks like no new news! Sadly!

I imagine that the "Station Camp" she was referring to, was the Station Camp Creek area of Estill County, KY, which is a heck of a lot closer to Scott County than Oneida, TN. If she thought she was in Estill County, but was all the way down in Stearns, she was severely confused.

I have a cousin who is diabetic, and has trouble managing his blood sugar. When his gets too low he is truly loopy, acts like he's severly intoxicated. His family have to watch out for him all the time. And he's no dummy, he's an attorney and was mayor of his town for many years. Diabetes troubles both the body and the mind.

If she was having difficulty with her blood sugar and she's been missing for a week, I don't see a good outcome here, sadly.

Family has started the "Help Find Darlene Chitwood" FB group, with more info there:

The article posted there on June 23 has more info including a picture of the vehicle they're interested in. The person posting it has cropped the source but when doing a search for it it looks like it's behind a paywall so I can't bring it here to link it.

Estill County, KY is much further away from Stearns than Oneida, TN. Fastest route between Estill County and Stearns is an hour and 55 minutes, and 106 mile.

t’s been more than a week since Darlene Chitwood was last seen near here, and her family is offering a $2,000 reward for information pointing to her whereabouts.

The 50-year-old Winfield woman was last heard from the evening of Saturday, June 18, when she texted her daughter and told her that her car had broken down at Station Camp and she needed a ride.

However, Station Camp is located west of Oneida, and Chitwood’s car was later found outside a tire shop near Stearns. That has her family concerned that she may have been suffering from a medical condition that was causing confusing. Chitwood is diabetic.

Video surveillance images showed that Chitwood parked her car at the tire shop and left on foot. She was later seen speaking to someone in a black pickup truck as she walked along East Appletree Road.

Chitwood is now the seventh person from Scott County currently missing. Several of them are also tied, in some form or fashion, to McCreary County.

She's not from Stearns. She is from Scott County (per the original post). Stearns is in McCreary County. Stearns is 123 miles south of Georgetown (county seat of Scott County).

Oneida is 146 miles south of Georgetown.

Station Camp Creek would be about 50 miles from Georgetown.

A little local knowledge: the inner region of central KY (Fayette, Scott, Clark, and Madison Counties, etc) has quite a few ex-pat Estill Countians residing here. McCreary County doesn't.

The very first post here states she was last seen at Big Blue Tire in Stearns, KY. It states her family is from Scott County, TN. She herself is a resident of Winfield, TN which is in Scott County, TN. Oneida and Station Camp Rd. are also in Scott County, TN.

The Station Camp from where her vehicle was found is about an hour drive. Where she parked her vehicle she has a sister that lives down the road opposite side of the street from the tire shop. She is diabetic and most of her family lives in the area. The area (McCreary Ky and Oneida Tn) has many people missing. It is not a safe area. I do know her, have known her for many years. I am really afraid at this point.

Was her vehicle actually found out at Station Camp? I thought it was found at Big Blue Tire.

It is possible that she was confused because she had told the employees at the tire shop she thought her sugar was low.

I would also like to add that she kept in contact with her kids, daily several times a day. Her family and her kids are her life. She isn't the type to really go any amount of time without having contact with someone. I am going down there today and going to drive the area. My mom went a few days ago and she seen 7 black trucks. I am going to go see if any of them are the one from the video. I know Darlene's mom was a real bad diabetic and had to have shots. Darlene would give anyone the shirt off her back.
