This has shades of Cherish Perrywinkle written all over it. Another poster and I have come to the conclusion somewhere between 500 - 1 grand was in Shamika's hands Feb 28th. She's been on a spending spree since then and only at the exact date of Relisha's disappearance getting reported to cps did Mika stop posting - exact date.

Fishy no less.

I wasn't familiar with Cherish Perrywinkle's case, so I had to google it. Wish I hadn't - this case is enough heavy stuff for now. :(

But it's so sad - two girls with similar meaning names: Cherish and Relisha (...'relish'...).

Looking at videos of Relisha, she is a pretty child and she seems to be happy, active, and enjoying life. Even at the shelter she was dancing to music with her siblings and playing hide and seek outside. I think its sad that she and her adorable siblings were born to a mom who wasn't able to give them quality parenting and wasn't a good role model for them. It sure appears that Tatum was grooming the girl to take advantage of her. This is only rumor but a woman posted after a news article that Tatum had molested her as a child. I hope the child is alive and well somewhere and I hope all of the children in the family are placed in homes better than the one they had.

Definitely suspicious but another thought, could the money have been tax return money?

I saw a post about quitting a job.

I hadn't seen this yet, thank you for posting it.

Notice she's asking for her daughters return NOW and only now because she was both questioned last night and also because the other kids were taken. It's almost the end of the month and without her kids, she wont' receive the same benefits or assistance. I'm guessing they will be or have been asked to leave the shelter and seek assistance individually now that there are no kids involved and they are not married.

IMO, I don't think she's asking for her daughter back just for the money. While she could definitely be considered neglectful and irresponsible in this case, I do believe that she loved her children. As reported earlier, she was raised in foster care. Also, if you review her FB page, you'll see posts on 12/19/2012 that indicates a high level of dysfunction between the mother's sister and the child's grandmother. I'm not absolving the mother of any blame here, but I believe the mother grew up in a dysfunctional household and never really learned how to properly parent her children. This man had taken her child and returned her multiple times in the past so she probably expected the same to happen this time. I don't think she truly realized that her child was in danger until the wife was found murdered. At least, I'm hoping that's the case. I'd hate to think that this is another instance of a mother selling her child.

the spending spree business is interesting. Particularly since I was under the impression Reshida and her mother were staying in and made the acquaintance of Tatum because they were staying at the homeless shelter at which he was a janitor.

But I am mindful that it is tax time so am trying hard not to read too much into the sudden influx of cash.

I thought about a tax return too, due to timing and all - but I do not think either of them actually worked and tax return money would absolutely have affect on your assistance.

WTF?! :banghead:
That's all I got. :sigh:

What you see as a loving mother appears to be a woman transfixed on getting high and chasing her man while letting the system raise her kids. Please read the rest of my posts to get some clarification on how I intend that to come off - because I feel she did the right thing by being on assistance and making sure the children had everything. Her behavior doesn't strike me as being mentally well - and as a girl who was raised by everyone but her own mother plus being in the system her entire life (including now), she knows how dubious everything is. You would think this would cause her to guard her first child, her daughter a bit more - she did the opposite.

trying to maintain the proper Websleuths attitude towards mom right now but in response to her interviews on camera and her seeming lack of understanding of why she has "lost" her other children over "this":

D.C. Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA) had an active case working when Relisha went missing, along with three prior cases dating back to 2007, sources told News4. The previous cases included lack of food, insufficient shelter, medical neglect, inadequate supervision and at least one report of the mother hitting one of her children.

"This family was under the supervision of Child and Family Services," D.C. Councilmember Tommy Wells said. "This child should not have gone missing. This is an 8-year-old girl. This is absolutely unacceptable."

Despite these reports, which span the course of seven years, authorities never removed the four children from their mother's custody until the Amber Alert Thursday -- Relisha's siblings were placed in the care of CFSA that day.

I had the same thought. There didn't seem to be any concern when a 50yr old man took a special interest in her 8yr old daughter. But now that his wife was found dead now mom's concerned. :banghead:

This was posted a few pages back, and I believe relatives said she often was looking for a place for Relisha to stay. Particularly after one specific CPS visit - she called around looking for someone who had room for Relisha. So sad.

I was looking back over the FB pages. She had some cash on 2/28, and her BF had cash on 2/10 - a lot more than she had. I guess that's where Astro and someone else came up with $500-$1000. I counted at least a grand in his hand on 2/10. I can only speculate......

I've read all your posts and I understand what you're saying. I just don't believe that her being a bad/neglectful mother necessarily means that she didn't love her children. I do, however, believe that she wasn't taking proper care of them and that they shouldn't be in her custody.

I had not seen this before. I had assumed the wife was trying to interfere with Tatum's plans for Relisha. But, if Relisha was never there...?

bbm

OH snap :(

  • #358
I think she loves her children - but I think she may be limited in her ability to really love deeply and unconditionally, to put her kids' needs before hers. She probably loves them as much as she is capable of loving.

  • #359

Exactly. So where was she during this time? With someone else? I'm really wondering about accomplices, who are complicit enough themselves not to turn him in.

We were actually figuring in the cost of the new shoes, coats and such too. I think the sneakers are bootleg but I have no confirmation on that, but if they aren't bootleg than the amount goes up significantly.
